Zolak - Patriots think the league has NOTHING

Who was it that said the psi rule should be removed completely because that is what I believe really ought to happen. Everyone plays with whatever psi level they are comfortable with. The rule is foolish and outdated anyway.
You can't abolish ball comformity rules. That would be like each stadium's field being a different size.

How is it not a good point? It would seem the ones going through hoops to disprove anything are us Pats fans. It is hard to argue that SOMETHING happened to the footballs. Alot of circumstantial evidence pointing to tampering with the footballs. Hate to say it.

It's sad seeing you folks jumping through hoops trying to disprove nothing. Get a grip.

Do the Willie
......
you're right, but I get riled up when I see others trying to prove nothing....... (Florio, King, etc.)

If the balls must lose 2 psi due to the cold and rain, why didn't the balls used in the second half lose psi?
It is no so much cold and rain that causes the drop, it is air that is colder and that the ball gets wetter. Once the balls had been out for the whole first half they were already cold and wet. They were topped off at that point with a small amount of air (7% or so). If that air was warmer it would cause a very small drop in PSI over the second half. If that air was 50 degrees you would see no change.

Not even remotely the same. It's like dictating shoe size.

I think Florio is referring to the NY Daily News test they did. They did it in 40 seconds. The coach apparently did the same test. The one problem is they never used an actual gauge so isnt it somewhat IMPOSSIBLE for all the balls to be the same PSI as dumbass Florio is reporting. This whole thing is a sham.

If you want the pats guilty ull believe every dumbass theory. That's the problem the team has.
I can't believe you could deflate 11 footballs in forty seconds accurately to the psi brady would want. I could see forty seconds football using a pressure gage because you don't want to go below what brady wants, so you'd have to go slowly, but no way you could do all 12.

There is more evidence that they didn't tamper than there is of them tampering.

Stop buying into the NFL and media spin on this. They are all denying laws of physics.

If the ballboy did deflate them they would have been even lower than what they reportedly were at when they got checked at halftime.

Being objective - if this attendant is a Pats employee then I absolutely think a fine is coming, Not for cheating but for controls and procedures not being followed by team employees when prepping for an NFL game.

There has to be something already in the game ops manual about this. Allowing a dude to go wherever he wants with game balls seems like something that could easily be abused for nefarious purposes. Which I do not believe was the case here but it could be next time. The league will update their policies to ensure this or any "hole" in their procedures is plugged.

If the league was concerned about the security of the footballs the refs would have brought them up to the field themselves. Then hand off to the ballboys in plain view of everyone. In fact I would be surprised to find that refs handing the footballs off to a ballboy before they're on the field is routine. It strikes me as a bit unusual.

The proper test would be to:

1. stand outside the restroom door with a bag of the appropriate no. of footballs (12? 24?)
2. proceed through the door and dump out the balls
3. deflate, accurately and uniformly, to the reported pressure at least 12
4. retrieve and re-bag all the balls
5. reappear outside the door within 90 seconds

Anyone who claims they can do that, I want to see it on unedited film.

Know what else you can do in a bathroom in 90 seconds (but probably not in 40 seconds)? Pee and wash your hands...

The Daily News one is a joke. I watched the video. They never showed the before or after PSI nor did they even say how much the PSI dropped.

But I seriously doubt that if the Pats were cheating like this, they would do it this way. What if the attendant deflated the balls too much by accident? Even if he snuck a gauge into the bathroom, he certainly couldn't have snuck in a pump to re-inflate it. In the timeframe he was in there, there would be no way you could even test the pressure with a gauge on each ball and deflate each one.

Sure if you wanted to deflate balls to make the time frame reasonable, you might be able to. But it would certainly risk doing more harm than good. And if he was in the bathroom for another minute, it wouldn't be like he would have raised suspicion.

It is ridiculous to believe he was in the bathroom other than to take a leak, but people want to make this a conspiracy.

Stadiums don't grow and shrink with the weather.

Balls can't conform to a one psi range when there is a hundred degree range of game conditions unless the NFL specifies that they be filled and inspected under those game conditions. Even then, temperatures can drop in a three hour game.

Its because the Dolts balls were within the required range. People are hanging on to that "fact".

If the balls must lose 2 psi due to the cold and rain, why didn't the balls used in the second half lose psi?

This is actually a good point...

There have been numerous detailed posts here that answer that question.
Physics.
Balls filled at halftime to X psi and temperature T should be at just about the same pressure at the end of the game because the temperature never changed more than 2 degrees or so.
Question definitively answered and rendered moot.

What coach would waste his time doing that

No hoops required. Just nature. I've seen no evidence circumstantial or otherwise that points to tampering. You're not making sense.

Yup, long and with leaks to "up the pressure." I've seen this on many TV cop show. The NFL is doing a fishing expedition.

Pity this means the NFL (re: Goodell) is not even pretending to be neutral anymore. Kraft should call for his firing - without pension.

People are letting other fans get to them.

In discussing this with some Patriots haters, even they admit that the whole ballboy thing is hilarious and that he was just in there taking a piss.

Anyone who continues in this vein of pinning it on the ballboy is just clearly trying to get a rise out of Patriots fans.

But then there are all the other twits who deny basic laws of science. Those people are just ignorant, like Peter King.

This is the essense of the problem. If the NFL wanted a graceful way out of this, they should announce that they have a rule which inadequately addresses the real-world situation, that they thank the Colts for bringing it to their attention, that they are sorry the Patriots had to be disrupted during their Super Bowl preparation while this was studied, that the Super Bowl balls will be checked immediately before game time and at half time, and that the rule will be addressed in the off season to clarify its obvious conflict with Mother Nature.

Oh...sorry...I was just daydreaming. Did I say that out loud?

If the name of the ball boy/attendant becomes public and the NFL comes down on the Pats for improperly deflated balls and infers it was the ball boy who did it, he would have the best defamation case against the NFL. He is not a public figure and the actual malice standard would not apply to him. At this point, I think it is safe to say he has already spoken to the NFL and denied tampering with the balls and for the NFL to say otherwise is to call him a liar.

Why hasn't the ball attendant been outed already?

Should be all over Facebook.

We've seen the kid's face on the sidelines.

All his friends know who he is.
