Marshawn Lynch vs Pats

Not identical runners but when I think of this game, I am reminded of the early 2000's Phins with Rickey Williams. I remember highlights of a game where BB is on the sidelines, getting in the face of the front seven about staying disciplined on the cutback lanes. It will be interesting to see if BB feels he can do that with this group which is built differently.

Marshawn is like a suped-up Blount, with moves like Gray, and has the WR ability like Vereen.

Patriots need to make sure they tackle this guy, properly..

I think the biggest mistake teams make against Lynch is trying to stand him up and strip the ball. He has amazing balance and keeps his legs moving and ends up making a lot of his big runs in this manner. They need to take his legs out from under him as soon as possible and not worry about the strip.

The Pats hold Lynch to under 15 carries and 3 ypc and the game is in the bag.

The offense revolves around him.

Force Wilson to check out of run plays into pass plays and the game speeds up- to the Pats advantage.

For what it's worth... in 5 games vs NE he only has 20 carries or more once, no 100 yard games, and he's been held to 3.7 yards per rush or less in 4 of 5 games.

I trust BB will have a gameplan for him.

Sure, collective effort/tackling is going to be key, but Hightower is gonna be one busy dude, and Jones Nink and Collins better be prepared bring it when it comes to tackling--we're a little light in the front 7 for my liking vs. Lynch. I'm sure Chung will be moved up a lot as well but Lynch will run him over all day long.

I'm not that worried about our D, but Lynch could decide the game in the late stages, like he did vs. GB when he put the their offense on his back.

Protect against that wheel route they like to run, I have seen several teams get burned on that. Sounds like a job for Jamie Collins.

I think that Hightower and Collins will single-handedly decide how our defense does versus their offense. They are going to be busy with deciphering the read option and trying to confuse Russell Wilson himself so that he goes into the wrong read.

In the Packers game, Beast-Mode did not show up until the near end.

Patriots need to "mute" him for 60 minutes.

I wonder if Alan Branch will have more snaps in the BIG GAME?

Yeah but our rush defense this yr has been inconsistent. Teams like the jets/KC/dolphins and even the ravens ran well on us. They know they have to stop him but will they be able to remains to be seen.

Branch siliga and wilfork need to have their A games.

He's not fast enough to get outside.....good tackling is all it takes

yeah, but I think running the ball is a little more of a team activity than people like to think.

kc and balt aren't in any way comparable to seattle's run game.

I'm not too worried about it -- i'd much rather have lynch to worry about than, like, a charles

Pats gotta pick their poison between containing Wilson from getting out the pocket and limiting lynch. Won't be easy but I believe they can limit both without selling out.

We defended Marshawn Lynch decently in his tenure with the Bills, but his average yards per carry clearly increased when he joined the Seahawks.

In looking at the number of seasons he's played, you can understand why he's likely gone after this season. He's logged a lot of carries and receptions on his RB-odometer. He might not be able to go this deep into another post-season.

He only has 3 fumbles this year, which includes 280 carries (1 fumble) + 37 receptions (2 fumbles)--not bad. We shouldn't expect the man to fumble.

I really feel confident about this game but i have to say the only thing i am scared about is Lynch against our run D. If Forsett made us look a bit stupid then imagine what beast mode will do?

Did you see what he did Pat Peterson when he had that monster TD earlier in the year? Made one of the best corners in the game look like a piece of cardboard, sent shivers down my spine watching it and not in a good way.

Forsett did have a good but I think it was more of the run scheme that game then it was the actual HB. Not sure if Seattle also runs that zone strech...

Fair point but Marshawn does everything as a RB well, his cutbacks are nasty for someone of his size and the SOB can even play like a receiver just to rub salt in the wounds.

I hate the idea of keying in on someone and forgetting other playmakers (unless we're talking about Revis covering) but i think doing the most to stop Marshawn and making Wilson beat us with his arm sounds like the way to go because if Tom is able to put up points then you're asking him to do stuff he never does and that's go away from the run and throw for 300/350+ and multiple TD's.
