(Merged x3) It's All Happening!!! PFT Now Blames The NFL For Tarnishing The PATS Image

It is truly amazing how little chatter there is now that it looks like there may be a conspiracy where NFL officials and teams worked together to entrap and defame the Pats. Revelations like that should have incited further frenzy, not taken all the air out of the whole story.

It appears as though the NFLPA is working with the Pats on this. I wonder if there are any other owners, or anyone else siding with the Pats. There is a battle being fought, and we can only speculate on who is involved.

Agree completely, and we should start banging the drum on the conspiracy to damage the Patriots and who was involved.

Tony dungy on Dan Patrick Show, "We know something happened" ,"I would care about this" . Really sad.

Congress may well become involved as this looks like it is a conspiracy involving the highest levels of the NFL in collusion with some of the Patriots opponents. Congress has been all over the NFL lately. Roger may not survive if it turns out the #2 NFL guy (former Jest executive and documented Patriots hater) set up this sting the same day the Patriots files tampering charges against the Jets. They probably had the balls being filmed and figured they would have the smoking gun when the Patriots balls showed a 1PSI drop at the half. leaked it to Kravitz and the rest is history. Just too dumb to understand science. Caught in their own rat trap.

Contact your congressman and senator and demand answers from the NFL as their anti trust exemption is at stake.

Believe it or not, I could actually envision the NFL fining them a small amount (maybe the suggested 25k) for having their footballs under the league mandated limit, even without further explanation of any wrongdoing.

Even if that were the case, I think it'd be okay at this point. I don't know--I didn't feel the same way a few days ago, but today a small fine with no other reasonable explanation for "cheating" somehow doesn't seem as bad.

So Roger fines the Patriots because NFL standard and ref quality controlled footballs obeyed the laws of physics?
All us science & engineering types will devote their lives to ensuring Goodell & the NFL are laughingstocks.
Ridicule is a powerful weapon.
There would be no defense whatsoever for an insane conclusion such as that.

Simple solution....ok so someone needs to pay? A fine and penalty must be levied? Send Mother Nature a 25k fine and a 5 game suspension for the last 5 home games...temps can't fall below 60 any of those games. Done, everyone happy!

Well at least Peter King's tone has changed. From his MMQB:

http://mmqb.si.com/2015/01/26/super-bowl-49-patriots-seahawks-bill-vinovich-ref/2/

If this theory is the case, the lack of transparancy from the league is criminal. They let the world think that all of the balls were down around 2 PSI and the truth may be far less. And we have no idea if the Colts inflated their balls to the max (which could be the case because Luck has really big hands) and if they did and they were down to 12.5 PSI when measured, they lost the same amount of air pressure.

At least it is a near 180 from King's argument that there is no way they lost pressure without tampering.

He is an idiot. BB explained in the press conference that they tested the footballs under the exact same routine and circumstances of game day, and the results, and King still says We still don’t know why New England’s footballs were fine before the game, low at halftime (at least 11, according to Chris Mortensen), inflated to the proper level by the officiating crew, and then fine after the game.

Did he not pay attention or is he too daft to understand? The balls were inflated by the refs (if they did that) after they were prepped by the team, and in BBs study the prep raised the balls a pound of psi, and they later returned to equilibrium. You can't say "inflated to the proper level by the officiating crew, and then fine after the game." unless you know what they were inflated to, where they were inflated, and how long after the game they were measured, accounting for adjusting to the higher inside temp.

Valid point, although I rival Joker when trusting the offices of the NFL.

One good aspect is that now that there is a 3rd party law firm behind things, it may not be the super biased show that it would've been simply with Goodell.

I had never heard of Mike Kensil until PFT mentioned him as a person of interest in the Deflategate scandal.

I'm having trouble nailing down specifics but it looks as if Mike Kensil was the Jets Vice President of Football Operations and Director of Operations, and is now the Vice President of Game Operations for the league.

His father, Jim Kensil, was the Team President of the Jets for 11 years. He died in January of 1997, and the article that I read mentioned his son Mike was the Director of Operations for the Jets at that time.

I can't find it now but I thought I remember reading that Mike Kensil became NFL Director of Game Operations in February 2006. Now if that is true, that gets really interesting in regards to the whole Spygate mess.

Wasn't it during the 2006 season that the Jets were caught filming from an unauthorized location in Foxboro and Mangini said they had permission while BB denied it? Nothing happened to the Jets for that, but the next season, COINCIDENTALLY in New York, the Pats get busted for filming in an unauthorized location and the rest is history.

Could Bob Kraft's silence be due to stunned disbelief that he has been played by someone he considered a friend?

The thing is people are making a lot of definitive statements and assumptions based on rumors. Many of these rumors have other rumors that contradict these rumors. Even supposedly smart people like Bill Nye are acting stupid (you would think that the "Science Guy" would know that friction on the ball would heat up the air temperature inside the ball and increase the PSI.

There are far too many variables we do not know about. What was the beginning PSI of all the balls? Did the Colts' balls not lose PSI (which would be impossible) or were they just in the 12.5-13.5 range before and after the game? When did they measure the PSI of the balls after the game? Were they sitting inside after the game for a period of time before they measured them or did they do it right away? All these questions go on and on. People want to just take the worst rumors and make wild assumptions.

If their target was brady, they would likely collect as much as they could around him before talking to him. Easier to catch him that way.

I agree, but what are they going to catch him for?

For claiming he didn't care to notice the mostly 1lb psi difference in a charged-up AFC conference championship game playing under the rain with a new center snapping the ball?

Yup! Strange how BSPN has dropped most of its talking about it and is acting as if it is a regular SB week.

Screw them!

Hope Kraft hires some private investigators and exposes what is really going on. No more friggin loyalty to a league that left the GOAT coach/player hanging with their reputations damaged so badly.

It's hard to imagine the other 31 owners not looking at this and thinking that the same thing could happen to them.

The power hungry Goodell could run a sting on any of their teams for similar nonsense like helmets not inflated to the right psi, loose chinstraps, or Gatorade jugs that aren't up to league specs. Any stupid reason he can make up to exert his will, or else.

I'm sorry guys, but as exciting and revealing as yesterday's story seemed, I really don't see much of a change in the narrative out there today. Its the same mediots making the same unsubstantiated allegations, all gleefully willing to defy reason, science and common sense in order to continue a story that by anyone with a wit of sanity knows isn't a story at all. One less pound of pressure on a cold night is NOT going to give anyone any competitive advantage. Yet here we are watching our team being looked on like they were shaving points or playing with 12 guys. And this is AFTER he revelations of yesterday

Here's my fear. Bob Kraft is not going to back down. He is not going to accept any so called face saving punishment from Goodell, and I bet he told him so at his party. The fear is that Goodell is such an idiot that he stupid enough to start that fight. He really is that BAD at his job.

I expected to se a change in the narrative today, but I haven't seen it, and it worries me.

Sorry...which friend? Goody or Kensil? Kensil and Kraft are friends?

King has to be smarter that what he is writing...dope

There is a battle going on. King picked his side a long time ago. He's starting to squirm as the tide is turning against the league.

You know that even if the league totally absolves the Patriots of any wrong doing and backs it up with incontrovertible proof, people will just say that Goodell is in Kraft's back pocket. Nothing will change the narrative of this now. Even if they show proof that either the Colts or the league set up the Pats.

The one consolation in all of this is that no matter what happens, Goodell is going to come up a big loser in all of this. If he says the Pats did nothing wrong, people will claim he is sweeping it under the rug while Pats fans and more rational people will ask why he let the Pats twist in the wind so long with no proof of cheating. If he decides to punish the Pats with no smoking gun, Patriots fans will be irate and haters will kill him for going too light (he won't be able to suspend Belichick or Brady with no evidence of cheating). The only way he can come out of this looking good is if there was a smoking gun so he could come down hard on Belichick. And the odds of that happening seem to be worse than my odds of winning Powerball.
