Mike Reiss seems pissed off

Maybe his editor pressured him into it? Hey Mike, we can get more reads/hits if we go with this headline, so we're just going to go with that.

I mean in the end he's accountable, but if your boss pressures you to go a certain way, don't most people cave in that situation? I'm not excusing him, but I could see it going down like that.

So if he "wasn't crazy about his headline choice" and was able to pick a headline himself without editoral input, why didnt he pick a different headline?

I mean, try reading between the lines for once.

That's the point I'm trying to make.

I can't believe how hard people have been on Mike Reiss.

Be careful about this kind of litmus test, the person after him may not be near his quality.

CEO:"Hmmm who's this Felger guy everyone seems to hate? He sounds perfect!"

Mike definitely deserves some heat for his "Patriots Must Be Held Accountable" entry. But he at least has shown some conscience subsequently.

From a cursory sampling of news outlets this morning I am very surprised how little BB's Saturday presser has changed the narrative. It's hard not to be pissed off by the overall lack of fairness and objectivity.

I'll go back to Reiss after he leaves ESPN. I don't expect him to be a cheerleader. However, he could have done better which he readily admits. He has gone from doubtful they did it, to possible or even likely, back to doubtful. But nothing changed in terms of evidence to warrant those fluctuations.

This is a man who sees the team, sees BB, and Brady nearly every day. So I think a bit of harshness is warranted. It's one thing to throw around speculation about someone you don't know, can't comment on their character, it's another to do it to people you personally know.

I don't take his statement to mean he didn't choose the headline. I think he would have said that if it was the point he intended to communicate. I think he's just saying he had a feeling he might regret it after he posted it, and now he does. People sometimes do things against their better judgement and regret it later.

Not me of course, but other people... Or so hear :)

I don't know the particulars of why Reiss wrote what he did on Monday but I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Nevertheless, despite always being a big fan of his work, I have decided I will not read anything he writes that is affiliated with the scumbag organization that pays him to write what he does.

Well, I'm out on San Francisco on business and the news on DeflateGate has definitely diminished since Friday.

Yup.

You know, if I had a dollar for every post I later regretted making on this website, I could take a very nice vacation.

.....and my posting is under no job pressure whatsoever.

I think it's more a case of peer pressure than "boss" pressure. He just got swept up in it against his better judgment.

I think Reiss is good overall, he also seems to be a good dude who tries to do things right. I actually think instead of piling on, we should be imploring him (and the rest of our local media) to help us fight against this slanderous, damaging, media/agenda-driven witch hunt crapfest.

I know we all want this story to go away and move on to the game. But I think we need to do the opposite. We need to show the NFL that you cant mess with us. We are tired of being wrongly accused of cheating out of jealousy and hate. The league needs to be looked into for this, Irsay, Harbaugh/Pagano, Goodell, ALL OF EM! We need to start something like #newenglandstrong or something like that and get this ball rolling. THIS IS OUR F-ING TEAM!!!

Seriously though, i'm not a tweeter.. if any of you are get this stuff out there. I have been sharing the people defending us on FB. Our team deserves to be respected, they need us!

So check out his individual blog. It is pretty good stuff.

SMY, Daniels, Howe, Guregian, Price, etc.) are the responsible journalists.

Get SMY the hell out of that list. She's just another one of the lazy, pissy whiners who is always taking passive-aggressive shots at BB because he doesn't suck her toes.

Unlike a lot of folks here I normally think King does a good job of researching things, I'm surprised and disappointed he didn't do his job on this one,

???? He hasn't done his "job" in years. He's Will McDonough without the colorful background -- he's a completely unobjective shill for whoever feeds him info. (And woe be unto you if you cut him off -- seven years later and still frequently whines that BB won't talk to him anymore). Not to mention how he's always been a smug, sanctimonious prig (very Buck-like in that regard).

No sympathy for Reiss here. He knew what he was signing up for, and that's on him.

......so he should have stayed at the Boston Globe??????

You DO understand that they are worse than ESPN, right?

People were either not here or forget, but when he jumped from the Globe to start ESPNBoston.com that was a HUGE slap in the face to the Morrissey Boulevard crowd - - that was UNHEARD OF back then - - and, yes, it DID help change the terrain away from the newspaper domination. The Globe sports section has never recovered from it.

With the Globe, it is a management Holy War against Kraft and the possibility of a football team getting anywhere near the popularity of their idol Red Sox.

Reiss has a wife and kids to feed. Where does he go? When he took the ESPNBoston job they told him the blog was his. THEY changed the game on him with this ESPNation encroachment last year. He was ticked off and he put his neck on the line by publicly answering a question from a reader about it.

Look folks, you are never going to get a 100% pure fanboy info site anywhere - - even here.

For some, the litmus test is ridiculously tight. So Reiss' PSi reading BRIEFLY fell to around 11.3 on Monday. Admit that the atmosphere he performs in could possibly do it. ;)

So, share with us the details of you trying to pick her up at a bar & her blowing you off!
I mean in the sense of rejection.

How about #IdontUnderstandScienceGate?

It is not the role of the media to parrot all things Patriots. It is not the role of the media to protect the Patriots from themselves, or from others. It is not wrong for columnists and commentators to give their opinion on issues, even when those opinions run contrary to what Patriots homers would prefer. As long as he'd done his due diligence, Mort wasn't wrong to release his story on the 11 under inflated balls. Reiss isn't wrong to say that the Patriots should be held accountable for wrongdoing.

And the Patriots haven't been cleared of anything, which is something many here seem not to realize.

You have to be charged with something to be cleared of it. who is being charged?
