IMO ... the only thing that explains the difference between the teams balls is that the Colts had their balls at 13.5 - 14.0 psi. Ensuring that even in colder weather there could well be at least 1 psi and hopefully more difference between their balls and the Patriots balls.

Andrew Luck was 1/9 on his deep balls.

It would explain a lot, but expect no media to stop crucifying the Patriots to go after the pill popper.

I've been saying this for half-the week, the Colts arrived on a bus and their balls are in the luggage area that's probably unheated. They left the balls on the bus where they remained cold temperature, and any measurement in the referees locker room was too fast for the balls to adapt to the warm. Or, they were 12.5 outdoors and became 13.5 during measurement, then down to 12.5 (legal range) outside.

It's very simple to explain how the Colts balls could be within the right temperature the entire game while the Patriots dropped until more air was added half-way. Even though both started out valid both teams likely started at 12.5 (if the minimum is preferred by most quarterbacks if you believe the minimum) but the Colts balls were measured inside while they were cold and the Patriots while they were adapted to the indoors.

If the Giants played the Jets, that would be a different story as their game balls would be in the stadium the entire day before the game, so both team balls would be adapted to the indoors and would expect to lose a similar amount of pressure outside.

On top of this, the coating or pre-game ritual of the game balls can also affect the behavior of the leather and air pressure inside, even if both teams kept their balls inside all day.

Colts didn't cheat just like the Patriots didn't, but if the media wants to point out an unlikely chance of foul play, they should throw out ideas about the Colts and 30 other teams, too.

Andrew Luck is the only QB I can think of who should be expected to understand how things respond to temperature changes -- he was an architecture major at Stanford, and he graduated, so it's reasonable to suppose at some point he had a class in it.

I don't really care. If they were dumb enough to go along with trying to setup NE and hurt themselves in the process, it's just karma at its finest. Luck played just about his worst game ever and I enjoyed every second. Too bad for them, the psi can't help that defense stop the run.

Or the Colts simply inflated their balls at 13.5 outside in the cold temps rather than inside at higher temps. The Colts balls would be relatively unaffected from the weather due to the balls already being inflated at near game time temperatures. The Colts balls would be within limits throughout the game.

Don't the officials get the ball on Friday?

They are then stored indoors. Temps then would equalize.

The colts traveled to NE on Saturday, there is no way the officials got the colts balls before then

So when exactly did the officials get the balls?

Were they stored in meat locker? Who would leave AFCCG footballs on a bus overnight?

Wouldn't an official notice a freezing football because they are suppose to be tested under controlled conditions?

Something is not right.

Yea, something is not right.....with the Colts balls. Youtube videos have proven that the PSI drops around 2 PSI in footballs when inflated at around 70 degrees and brought out to around 48 degrees.

The fact that Colts footballs were not under the PSI limit says something was wrong with the Colts footballs and NOT the Pats footballs. The Pats footballs PSI drops were correct according the the Youtube evidence and the Science. The Colts balls being within regulation means something was different with Colts balls.

Colts balls were shipped on the luggage compartment of a plane. Get pretty cold up there. How soon after their arrival in MA were they filled/tested?

I would imagine the colts balls were prepared on Sunday at some time and given to the refs at the same time as NE's.

Colts placed the balls in front of heaters during game which kept pressure up just like Carolina and Vikings were caught doing.

One would think that the inspectors would notice a permafrost condition.

If anyone has a ball & pressure gauge this would be an interesting one for you to go test.

Lost in all of this is this one rather stark irony.

THE SUCK FOR LUCK CAMPAIGN HAS TURNED INTO THE SUCK >WITH< LUCK CAMPAIGN.

Sorry Colts fans, you brought that one on yourselves.
