I just wanted to thank the few people who took time off from the "deflategate" hysteria to post some thoughts on.....I, don't know......the up coming football game. I woke this morning to find my thread, along with any other thread remotely attempting to discuss some actual football relegated to the 2nd page,
I understand the need to talk about this topic to some degree, so did I. I devoted a long paean to the injustice of it all. But that as on Monday.... It might have even been appropriate on Wednesday perhaps, However at what point does it stop being information and opinion and simply become self hating masturbation.

Whatever damage that's been done has been done. There is nothing that can be said at this point that will make the whole thing better..... or worse. Almost a full week of anger, anguish, and attitude has been wasted on this.... And regardless of what the outcome of this game is going to be, much, much. much more will be wasted further still in the future.

So what end I ask. The haters are going to hate, misinform, and twist the facts regardless of what the actual truth is. I've fought that battle for 7 years now to no avail and most fans STILL believe it was illegal to try and steal signals, and a punishment for a crime that wasn't created until in 2006 can taint victories gained in 2001, 03, and 04. You see it doesn't have to be the facts, make sense, or even be the true to have people with an agenda to believe the worst.

So why bother, my friends. Are you prepared to frustrate your self to no end, trying to explain this over and over again to someone who isn't going to listen anyway? . Do you REALLY believe a rival fans is EVER going to think your team aren't cheaters. And even if in his heart of hearts, he knows it isn't so, is he ever, NOT going to wield that "weapon" over you like a cudgel. Of course he will!

What I propose is NOT to rise to the bait any longer and move on. Lets accept the reality, however unjust, and simply enjoy that fact that 30 other fan bases just WISH they could be where we are, and start to actually enjoy the experience......and talk some FOOTBALL. Why not take our own advice and "ignore the noise" We are in a fascinating match up, against a worthy opponent, so why don't we simply take the next week off and enjoy what is left of the experience. Otherwise it doesn't make much see to come here and continually aggregate yourself by reading stuff that s designed to piss you off. Let's not forget that "success is the sweetest revenge".......and anything else would be masochism ;)

Ah fresh air.

Thank you

Very well said

I agree except I'm starting to like getting riled up before the game. At first I was pi$$ed that we weren't being recognized for our achievements in the build up to the SB. Now I'm getting fuel from all the piling on from the haters and have my game face on 8 days before kickoff. Yeah, I would love some vindication to come from the league before the game but as you say nobody will believe it anyways.

My only concern as others have mentioned is that if the game isn't officiated fairly how we can overcome that.

Self hating masturbation .... LMAO

Here Here excellent post. We (Patsfans) rail against the media but rather than ignore the noise, this forum has been quicksand

I couldn't agree more - so bored with the whole issue now, it's so last week!

PUMPED for the game now, just been shopping to get nachos and all the toppings, my bodys weight in beer and everything else a Super Bowl party needs.

The media can go on about it if they want but NOTHING is going to stop me having a great night with family and friends watching our boys get a shot at the Lombardi.

The only thing that comes of it now is I'm EXTRA psyched to get the win!

Last night I before I went to bed I finally decided to subject myself to some of this nonstory so I looked up all the memes from this ordeal and was able to make myself laugh at how rediculous the whole situation is. This was the wake up call and release I needed that now as I woke up this morning I'm actually excited about the game for the first time since maybe Monday. It stinks that's theres another week of waiting and listening to mediots not discuss the game but it is what it is so LETS GO PATS!

Going shopping today for hot wings, bourbon and salami (don't judge me). Going to sit my butt down on the couch and enjoy the heck out of this game.

Everyone has their job to do:
Pats:
Contain Wilson, stop Lynch, score more points than they do.
Me:
Cheer, eat, drink

I've actually enjoyed the last week. There's been some football (much of it from Ken) and a whole bunch of mediots being exposed.

I understand that some of the folks who reside here at Patsfans are in the sports media business, but even you have to admit that you're taking a huge hit here. It's really too bad that the loud and ignorant voices rule the sports world these days. It makes me glad that I got to live at the time that I did. Sadly, it's only going downhill from here.

I went on an 'ignore thread' spree. The forum is so much easier to read now.

I think i am filled up on it and deflategate will just be a sorry tired questionable reference for other teams.

Great thread OP, I am looking forward to this week and the deflating of footballs talk is going to be understood as the haters trying to disprove the efforts of the team. If you ignore them they will get even more frustrated....while we are #OnToSeattle...we got one more week to cheer for our team and nothing anyone says is gonna kill the buzz.

#OnToSeattle....!!!

Good post Ken, I'm going to try and just be done with it.

You mention "30 other fan bases wish they could be where we are'. Are you dismissing the Jets fan base simply because they just don't know where they are?

Haven't had a chance to read the thread but just to comment on the title:

I hope we are able to enjoy this. I feel like at this point I actually have to remind myself that the Patriots play in the Super Bowl next week.

What I find myself wrestling with is a feeling that a win next week will feel somehow hollow. Hard for me to explain.

But over the next week I plan to bounce back, get revved up and hope that the Pats win this big and shove it in everyone's face. Roll the entire 2007 FU season into four merciless quarters, and make that misguided twerp Goodell stand up there, hand the trophy to Belichick and congratulate them with a nice big smile.

On the plus side: Each of the last couple of Patriots Super Bowls (how's that for a first world problem) I've felt like the team had the pressure to win, or better yet not lose. Now I feel like there is no pressure. There is an anticipation and expectation that this team will cave. I don't see that being in this team's character, and I hope they prove me right. This is their "Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" moment and I want them to trounce on the Farber parade in every way possible.

It really is. 2001 was focused on a media fondling of the Greatest Show on Turf. 2003 and 2004 were incredible, just such good teams. 2007 and 2011 were harder to enjoy for the Giants factor and also the pressure of 19-0 was a lot. This has obviously been ruined but I think we are going to see a really good game next Sunday.

For matchups:
Sherman > JoJo Lafell (just a hunch he takes him)

Maxwell < Amendola

Whoever on Seahawks (Jeremy Lane? KJ Wright?) <<<<< Edelman This matchup will destroy Sea.

Gronk = Chancellor (Probably the matchup that will determine this game, the most equal player Gronk will ever face)

Agreed. An open request to everyone to stop responding to the deflate-gate threads so they disappear. We're in the Super Bowl baby!!

Unfortunately Deb, this was the tread that disappeared. ;)

Its like Red's quote in Shawshank...

Get busy livin or get busy dyin'............... Thats damn straight.

We're movin' on to Seattle.

I'm feeling a hell of a lot better after that Belichick presser. Onto the Seahawks and the Super Bowl.

It sounded like they were able to gameplay, practice and deal with the other nonsense. I know Bill will look at the Chargers, Rams, and GB games and see how they knocked the Hawks off their game. GB would have won if MM wasn't so darn conservative and a bone headed play on ST.

Pats come out fired up and ready to prove the world wrong.

Pray for Seattle
