Living in Philadelphia is unbearable. All the talk is about how the Patriots are repeat offenders and the general consensus is that spygate was "swept under the rug". Yeah, $500,000 and a first round draft pick is definitely nothing.

They had some asshat NFL exec come on the radio stating that Brady is an older quarterback, and was placed on the injury report as "questionable - right shoulder" earlier this season. He said that lowering the weight by "two pounds" was clearly cheating in an effort to ease the strain on Brady's throwing shoulder. Any Pats fan knows the running joke on Brady and the injury report, not to mention that it's two PSI, not simply two pounds. You know the whole sports science clip, the actual weight difference was that of a dollar bill. Callers are eating this up, talking about the great point and how Brady's injured shoulder was clearly an issue.

They're literally calling it a joke that the Patriots won't be punished this season and that Brady shoulder be suspended from the superbowl. BB should be suspended for multiple games next season.

Oh yeah, and "everyone cheats but that's fine because the others aren't dumb enough to get caught"

Mikey Miss saying that "rules are rules and no one is above them" but then admitting to breaking arbitrary traffic laws that they don't agree with. The amount of hypocrisy is unreal. Rodgers likes his balls over inflated but that's fine because the Packers aren't repeat offenders and don't deserve the same level of criticism.

I need to move.
My friend from Philly is the worst. Keeps on talking about the "pattern of cheating by the Patriots." All I asked was for him to wait for more evidence before casting judgment, but he has made up his mind.

If rather deal with cheating and make the superbowl than not make the playoffs :)

I live outside Philly too and it is the worst on Boston Sports fans especially the Pats for some reason.

I get the Celtics and Bruins but the Pats hate borders on psychotic.

Reminder:

As far as I know, the NFL has never checked balls at halftime (correct me if I'm wrong).

I do know there are no scientists or people with a brain in the NFL. They would not have PV = nRT on the mind, especially after being tipped off by Ravens/Colts, especially given the Pats are involved. At what point does the NFL test the possibility that the balls dropped from natural causes?? At what point do they question the Colts inflation practices and why their balls didn't drop - when physics (having yet to be broken by anyone) suggests they must have?

*cough*

Come a couple hours up north, we can have a beer together and shield ourselves from the haters. :)

Tell him you've made up your mind. The Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and 76ers ain't bringin' home no trophies anytime soon, so suck on that.;)

From Twitter: If Pats wants to deflect attention from the balls, they should sign Michael Sam! LOL.

If league simply reinflated balls at halftime and put back in play, "evidence" is now gone. Surely must have recorded PSIs though.

Re-inflated means they were inflated to begin with which is contrary to the wording under inflated the NFL used. The NFL said the balls were under-inflated which means they were not inflated up to the standard figure. The NFL has never stated that the balls were measured pregame and the balls were deflated. They said the balls were inspected and at half time found under inflated.

Agreed. The problem is that the NFL takes itself so frakking seriously. Their defensiveness is actually kinda curious. They give the vibe that they're desperately worried that if they don't take every little thing even more seriously then the President takes ISIS that the public will suddenly think everything's rigged and stop watching games. (Hmmm....)

So they can never say "well, we do have to have some limits, because otherwise it might get silly. But really, unless it gets deflated to the point where the people on the field notice, it doesn't really matter." Because being that unserious might cause the fall of the republic or something.

That's what happens when you put someone totally unqualified in a CEO position

This'll be unpopular, but they do have a hook to hang that on that isn't completely ludicrous.

In the abstract, one could make a reasonable argument that an under-inflated ball (no matter what the reason) violates the rule and so a fine like those for equipment violations (or maybe a bit more since this is the ball!) is called for. (Now, we'll leave aside the double-standards -- that's a different story.)

Ummm, I think there's another rule (it was just recently posted here) stating that the game official, or referee, is the sole person responsible for determining whether game balls meet the standard. This would seem to indicate that a team could submit a ball at 8 psi, if they wanted to...or maybe 16 psi...as the team really isn't responsible for this determination. Therefore, it could be said that the standard (12.5 - 13.5 psi) is only in the rules so if a ball is rejected, there's a concrete basis for that rejection. And when you read that language, it further underscores why Aaron Rogers could display such confidence when he openly stated that he had submitted balls that were over-inflated. I agree with everyone who is suggesting that the Patriots will still get penalized, but the NFL is firmly is the crosshairs on this issue...based on the way their own rules are written.

Why do we care what journalists say anyway? These are the same people who think Peyton Manning is the GOAT and tell you that Ebola is going to definitely kill you. The only people putting an "asterisk" next to our SB win will be those who would have found some other reason to denounce it anyway. Why care, really? A championship is a championship.

In my opinion, the NFL is still going to hold the team responsible for the underinflated balls at the very least.

As Belichick already noted yesterday, he's going to change the way they do things with the 12.5 pressure by raising the standard around here and putting more air in the balls to prevent this from happening in the future.

I agree that it's total ********.
The problem is, even if BB does personally supervise every ball being inflated to 13 or whatever they would still fail the same test the Patriots had at half time. No way those balls remain in range in an even colder game. So then what, fill them out of range so they go in range during the game? There's no winning here. I think it's different then spy gate where they took it on the chin. I don't believe they did anything, and I'm not sure they will standby for a punishment. I'm also not sure Goodell can withstand a pissing match with Kraft. If Kraft wants to throw his weight around, I think he can. Don't know if he will though.

So maybe weather affected the balls and the Colts had theirs overinflated?

Not even the NFL is dumb enough to ruin their biggest event with a sting operation during the AFC title game. I have no doubt that the refs DID NOT inspect those balls with a gauge pre-game and then the Colts tried a little gamesmanship at halftime which goes no where if not for Irsay opening his drunk mouth. Now the league has to figure out a way to not look like assholes by saying their refs don't follow the rules in a playoff year where ref calls have been majorly called into question and in a terrible PR year. The fact that it's the Patriots doesn't help them because people want blood regardless of guilt.

The fact that Brady and Belichick flat out denied it and Kraft released that statement about integrity tells me that there was no deflating of the balls by the staff. There's just no way they put their careers and reputations on the chopping block like that if they're lying.
I agree. I just can't see Belichick and Brady flat out lying in the face of millions and millions of people. I was soothed somewhat after watching their interviews. But I'm left wondering, what the hell happened?
