So apparently Solder TD shouldn't have counted

Also pass interference should have been called for interfering with Vereen's ability to catch the ball before the ball was there and making no attempt to turn and look for the ball.

All about that deception.

I believe they are correct. The NFL rulebook says:

Section 5 Position of Players at the Snap Article 1: Offensive Team.

The offensive team must be in compliance with the following at the snap:
(a) It must have seven or more players on its line (3-19-1); and
(b) Eligible receivers must be on both ends of the line, and all of the players on the line between them must be ineligible receivers.
(c) No player may be out of bounds. Note: Offensive linemen may lock legs.

Penalty: For illegal formation by the offense: Loss of five yards. A.R. 7.33 Fourth-and-10 on B35. On a field-goal attempt, Tackle A1 and Guard A2 lock their legs as they line up. The field goal is good. Ruling: Field goal good, no foul.

On the play in question, Gronk and Solder were on both ends of the line. Flemming was inside Gronk and therefore could not be eligible.

RETURNING TO ORIGINAL POSITION Article 2

A player who has reported a change in his eligibility status to the Referee is permitted to return to a position indicated by the eligibility status of his number after:

(a) a team time out;
(b) the end of a quarter;
(c) the two-minute warning;
(d) a foul;
(e) a replay challenge;
(f) a touchdown;
(g) a completed kick from scrimmage;
(h) a change of possession; or
(i) if the player has been withdrawn for one legal snap.

A player withdrawn for one legal snap may re-enter at a position indicated by the eligibility status of his number, unless he again reports to the Referee that he is assuming a position other than that designated by the eligibility status of his number.

I don't believe any of these things had happened. Surely there will be league investigation and nationally televised inquisitions of players and coaches. Right?

Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller said Solder's TD shouldn't have counted because Fleming was eligible the play before and then was ineligible on that play. Which according to them he was suppose to sit out a play before he could be ineligible again.

Wrong.

Fleming wasn't penalized for being ineligible, he was penalized for being "covered" because Lafell was on the line above him, rendering him ineligible.

I believe that Fleming being eligible all game long was a decoy for Solder. All game long, the Colts were hearing "71 is eligible" many times over before they hear "77 is eligible," and I'm willing to bet that when they heard that, they had already assumed 71, and just tuned it out.

A nice touch of the Solder play was that prior to that, on the 2nd and 1, Lafell was on the line of scrimmage, and on the next play, 3rd and one, he was a step behind the LOS, and that one small move made Solder the eligible receiver. Nobody on the Colts noticed. Nobody.

Lost in all this deflategate ******** are two games that were brilliantly coached. Both Pagano and Harbaugh were schooled big time.

IIRC, Gronk was not on the line of scrimmage on that play, he was in motion and came in off the LOS. It was Lafell who triggered the penalty.

..and that is the true tragedy that has come from this nonsense.

Gronk is on the right side of the line. Flemming is to his left. Solder is on the left side of the line. The two receivers, Edelman and LaFell are off the line, so they are not covering the two eligible receivers at the ends of the line (Gronk and Solder)

Ok, my mistake. We are not talking about the same play. The play on which Fleming was penalized, I believe Lafell was on the top, not at the bottom if I remember correctly.

Let the record books be updated to reflect that we only won 41-7.
