Bob Kraft Statement

Saying he believed Brady, BB & his ball boys (as Brady did) would've gone a long way to making me feel good about the validity of Brady's comments yesterday. Now, I'm stuck between thinking Kraft thinks Brady is FOS or Kraft is more concerned with the league and less than Patriots.
I think it's the latter.

I'm disappointed too but what else can he say at this point?
He can do a lot, and frankly when faced with an obvious witch hunt the tactic to wait for the people of Salem to have a trial is not the right tactic IMO.

So the league essentially raided Gillette Stadium because so many people fail to understand basic physics?

Comical.
...and they never talked to Brady.

Something smells a foul.

I think it's the latter.

Let's hope so. Nothing would bring me more sadness out of this thing than to see Brady turn out to be a McGwire or Sosa or Armstrong. It would shock the hell out of me.

Not happy at all with Kraft's statement. He's becoming too much of a "league guy" and less of a Patriots guy. He could have very easily said something to the effect.

"Of course we are gonna cooperate with the investigation, but they won't find anything.... because I spoke to my Coach and QB and they insist they didn't tamper with the balls. AND I FRIKKEN BELEIVE THEM."

Very dissapointed.

A) Could've determined early on Brady had no part.
B) Goodell working the long con and wants to hang Brady up on his mantle as a trophy. Waited for him to proclaim innocence.

Gee Bob, don't kill yourself taking a stand there, you know like you did for Rog-Jet. We surely would not want to take too much of your time chasing bimbos your granddaughter's age. Please do us all a favor, and hand the reigns of this team to your son, and go full time skirt chasing.

they haven't been officially accused of deflation so why address it? It is "something that happened and we want to figure out why and what element(s) contributed to it". I dont have a problem with either NFL or Krafty's statement.

Absolutely. The more I think about it the more I say "to hell with Kraft".

How can you all expect Robert Kraft to issue an official statement defending his coach and quarterback when the NFL has not accused the Patriots of anything?

The NFL is investigating underinflated balls. That's very specific language. They're not investigating tampering, they're not investigating deflating balls, and they were very specific in saying that they were not in any judgment at this time.

I think the NFL is as inept as everyone else, but the language was precisely chosen so that no one could take the statement and then infer that the NFL was accusing the Patriots of deflating or tampering with the balls. So if that's their official statement, how can you then expect Robert Kraft to issue a statement that says, in effect, "the league's investigating the under-inflation of the balls, but my team didn't do it."

I mean, behind the scenes they could very well suspect tampering, but publicly they've not accused the Patriots. Only the media has done that. For Kraft to issue some fire and brimstone statement in defense of his team would be to defend against accusations that, officially, do not exist at this time.

"On Monday, I received a letter from the league office informing me that they would be conducting an investigation into the air pressure of the game balls. Immediately after receiving the letter, I instructed our staff to be completely cooperative and transparent with the league’s investigators. During the three days they were here, we provided access to every full- and part-time employee the league’s representatives requested to speak with and produced every communication device that they requested to search. It is an ongoing process that the league and our team are taking very seriously. I very much support the league’s desire to conduct a complete investigation and welcome the appointment of Ted Wells to lead the process. Competitive balance and the integrity of the game are the foundation of what makes our league so special and I have the utmost respect for those principles. Our organization will continue to cooperate throughout the league’s investigation. Meanwhile, our players, coaches and staff will continue to focus on our preparations for Super Bowl XLIX and the many challenges we face as we prepare for the Seattle Seahawks."
-- Bob Kraft

Sounds to me as though Kraft is trying to keep a straight face while saying this.

It's the 2nd one...

I sounds like a lawyer wrote this statement and not Kraft. I think Kraft has lawyers ready to fight. Just my opinion.

A) Unlikely.
B) Possible.

I'm beginning to think that the people here who want him to come out and definitively defend BB and Brady have never had to make a statement like this.

Kraft's is fine for this point. No need to tweek their noses when they can cause the Patriots trouble with a full anal exam. Bob can get back other ways and other times if need be.

On the NFL statement, it is written by lawyers and it is just important what they don't include and the nuances of the words they do use. They never use the word deflate or deflated only under inflated. This is a huge difference. The NFL has nothing and said nothing. They never even stated that pregame the PSI was measured. They implied it but never said explicitly they did hence they could not use the word deflate.

This is lawyer weasel writing 101. Imagine being in court, they would say, we never said the balls were deflated, only that "footballs that were under-inflated were used by the Patriots in the first half". We never said that the Reffs used a gauge to measure PSI pregame only that "game officials inspect the footballs to be used by each team and confirm that this standard is satisfied, which was done before last Sunday’s game" Inspect does not mean measure PSI.

Bob did the right thing.

It's a statement to the press and is therefore meant for the press not for the NFL who surely have their own statements. And he has been accused, that's how this started. And the press quite specifically accused his team.

If his PR team thought lawyer speak "don't deny because you haven't been accused" was a good press strategy then frankly, his PR team is filled with idiots who don't understand the press.

That statement = I'm not denying we did anything wrong. Don't take my word for it, read this thread. That's what people heard, and WE are the audience he was speaking to.
