Is Brady to Blame?

Much ado about nothing. Clearly not a competitive advantage. Merely a comfort thing for the QB. This is no bigger deal than a player wearing non league approved apparel. Has no impact on the game. As was stated, the refs are the ones in the cross hairs. They handle every ball twice per play. You going to tell me they couldn't tell the difference? The refs sole job is to maintain control of the game and adherence to rules during the game. This was their responsibility and the NFL's reaction should be simply to change how and where the footballs are kept. They let each team furnish their own balls. Ever wonder why? Because each quarterback likes to treat that ball so it is comfortable for him. That is all this was and to say the super bowl should be forfeited or Belichick suspended is to demonstrate total ignorance of the infraction and show the world how much irrational hate one has for the best football organization in the history of the NFL.

You can debate the significance, but If it didn't create a competitive advantage, why would they do it?

I think the $25,000 fine specified in the regulations is sufficient, at least for a first offense. To say that a more severe penalty is warranted implies that a significant advantage was gained, which is doubtful, from all accounts. The fact that is was the AFCCG shouldn't matter. The NFL doesn't increase fines or suspensions for infractions that occur during playoff games.

is Brady to Blame?

Technically, yes. He is the one who threw the interception that started this whole mess.

Incredible! this is on CNN, Fox news. America has nothing else to do this week.

Right, because there's nothing else wrong with the world today. Oh, wait, what, the whole world is completely F'd up in every way at this specific moment in time and we're talking about the inflation of balls in a sport? Yeah, sounds about right.

Another moron topic.

There is no one to blame about anything because no rules were broken.

Balls were delivered at legal pressure, deflated on their own until halftime thanks to weather.

If the NFL thinks that balls should stay over 12.5 PSI then either set the initial range higher or have someone put air into them constantly on the sideline. Also set clear rules for the environment in which a team pumps their balls. Otherwise some hot air will cause exactly this issue again and again.

I don't believe Brady. My question is if he was involved and admitted it, what would the ramifications be?

What would the reaction be if he admitted guilt because a lower PSI ball is just his personal preference, unequivocally stated that BB was unaware and apologized to the Kraft family, the team and the fans then proceeded treat the questions from the media who are treating this like this is the most important issue in the universe with humorous attitude?

Why don't you believe him? Something he said in particular or mannerisms or what?

The second half of your post...what are you getting after? A way to admit guilt in the best way possible? Seems to be both Belichick and Brady spoke quite a bit, used quite a few words that, if they're guilty, could really come back to haunt them. Very specific language that, if guilty, would be quite strange no?

Anyway, what I'm seeing from people who are saying he's lying is one of two things:
1) He likes ball at 12.5 PSI, but doesn't notice a difference on the field when a balls under inflated?
--To which I say, watch the sports science video, read the article by Theismann and Marino, the stuff from Eisen and Felger and many others who didn't notice a difference between balls whatsoever, going so far as to pick the wrong one in a blind test. Then think about this: athletes, especially professional athletes, can be very particular about things before a game. They want a bat shaved just right (read the biography on Ted Williams, he was a PSYCHO when it came to his bats), want their sticks taped just right, their blades sharpened with a certain edge and depth, on and on and on. When they get on the playing field do you think they notice these things any more? Do you think Jordan noticed when a ball was 2 psi lighter than one he shot with the night before? Do you think the Bourque or Gretzky noticed when their skate blade was partially worn down in the 3rd with 20% less edge than the first? NO! They're worried about everything on the court/field/ice. The difference between 12 psi and 14 psi is almost imperceptible, and Brady's not doing a side-by-side comparison, he's getting a wet ball for 2 seconds and trying to find an pen target!

2) How did he not notice the delay at the start of the 3rd, and what was going on with the balls?
--This was proffered by Felger and Mazz. Hey guys, maybe he's not sitting in front of his television, noticing that halftime's run out and the commercials are over and the ball should be in play. He might, just MIGHT, be more interested in reading the defense and getting his O lined up, figuring out who the mike is, where the blitz might be coming from, whether it's man or zone. Maybe he's seen balls swapped out before because k-balls are left in the game mistakenly from time to time but no one notices.

He's a professional ****ing quarterback paid a LOT of money to be great at reading defenses and throwing footballs to his teammates. His job doesn't entail whether the right balls are in play, what the refs are doing with the 24 balls he approved before the game started, what the tv crew is doing and if they're back from commercials and ready to run a play.

For christs' sake people, THINK! The idiocy of all this is REMARKABLE.

I just dont believe that he has no clue what transpired. The smoking gun is the quote he gave to Dennis an Callahan that he likes the balls underinflated.

When did he say this?

When did he say this?

Florio posted an old quote from 2011...he said something about I love watching Brink spike them it makes them under inflated.

I am LOVING this...the media is grasping at straws now. Everything is the opposite of 2007: Belichick candid with media? Check. Brady truthful and taking on all questions? Check. People who work for E!SPN frothing at the mouth about no proof of any wrongdoing? CHECK

They made reference to it during the press conference and Weei has replayed it. It was from a few years ago. It was in reference to Gronk spiking the ball.

Wow. If I was a criminal prosecutor, I'd want you on the jury.

Yeah so? It's relevant and somehow proves what? There is no evidence the pats have done anything wrong, same with brady. NOTHING at this point in time. Brady said something, I've said many things, so have you, so has everyone that could make you think their guilty, doesn't mean they are. You can twist words all you want, until it somehow proves anything, it's nothing.

And somehow it's all tied to under inflating footballs. Lol. I can't believe how many idiots are in this world.

If I were a juror I'd need proof to convict. This isn't a court of law - I don't have proof but in my opinion I think he's lying based on his mannerisms and his demeanor.

Of course quarterbacks realize the ball pressure drops in cold weather. Each team is given the choice of what the initial PSI should be, and 12.5 is legal and approved by referees. If this benefits Tom Brady as the ball is brought outside, who cares? After the initial check, nobody on the Patriots is allowed to inflate the ball back up. It's not Tom's or anybody else's responsibility anymore, except the referees, who touch the ball before and after every play.

Rodgers says he likes the balls over-inflated. He hates when referees remove air to the lower range before the game. What actually happens is the pressure drops below the minimum in cold weather games.

Technically, cold-weather quarterbacks like Rodgers may be correct to request over-inflated balls in the games because of temperature drops, and the NFL and the league are wrong to look at the pre-game measurement only. However wrong it is for officials to measure at 12.5 psi indoors, the Patriots are following the rules by the letter.

Belichick is the first coach to say, "even though the minimum is 12.5 PSI, we'll make sure they're closer to 13 PSI before we start the game". In reality, that's not good because the Super Bowl is indoors and the pressure isn't going to change, so the ball will be inflated above what Tom Brady likes the entire game.

I think we should subpoena all Brady's jokes and offhand remarks from 2001 to the present. after all, the softness of balls is not a laughing matter!

Right. In a court of law you need evidence a crime was committed and proof of wrong doing on someone's part.

This is a Kangaroo court where we can use an obvious joke from 4 years ago as evidence.

I just dont believe that he has no clue what transpired. The smoking gun is the quote he gave to Dennis an Callahan that he likes the balls underinflated.

'Underinflated' or 'softer' does not carry a specific meaning, like say 'killed' in a murder trial (one is either made dead, or he is not). It is a relative term. When Rodgers says he likes the ball 'overinflated', was he referencing the 12.5 psi - 13.5 psi rule? Based on what? If someone says they like to drive fast, does that imply a specific number to you? Apparently, if you believe that is more than 85 mph, so does the balance of the world because they all think and speak exactly like you, all 7.2 billion of them.

(1) Have the officials ever followed regulations and actually tested footballs before the game? Was it an informal squeeze test? Is this an NFL pandemic, and the Pats get to shoulder a procedural noncompliance throughout the NFL?
(2) Does Tom Brady know what a 12.5 psi ball feels like, or does he, like 50% of the ABs, generally prefer the ball on the softer side?
(3) If he answers he knows what a ball within specs feels like, did he recognize a disparity in this game?
(4) How can you answer any of these questions if you do not question him in the investigation?

I agree. You would make an awesome juror for the prosecution. You assume these answers (the NFL has not asked), assume the officials did as told, and then make a judgment based on a subject for which you lack any personal knowledge with actual fact. The media thanks you for your support, and apparently you find support with that nitwit Kurt Minehan who spoke on O'Reilly today and said he believed Brady was lying.
