ESPN is such a ****, their video doesn't show any of Belichick explaning that he had no involvement, and instead just shows the end where he keeps saying "I have no explanation, I don't have anything more I can tell you".

They are trying to save face because Mort ran with a bogus story. Just like he did after the Pats lost to the chiefs.

Brady doesn't know anything either. LOL. I cannot believe this. Someone over on the planet said Brady's press conference would be an "instant classic." Remember we are not talking about a game here, but a press conference.

The NFL. Entertainment first, sport….distant second.

I would absolutely love to see Chris Mortensen's "inside information" about 11 of 12 balls being flat proven as unfounded and the media walk away from this with a big black eye.
Yeah, was wondering how ESPN had all this information before the investigation began or ended. Watching Bill do the presser makes me mad as hell, he is spending a considerable amount of time on this topic rather than preparing for the the SB.

Whats next, they gonna say the players have too many spikes on their cleats? or use gloves that grip the ball too well?.You know if they can think it, there will be another scandal in there in regards to the Patriots.

My decoder ring interprets NFL as WWE.

It sucks that BB and company had to waste cycles on this while preparing for the Superbowl. After all this, I think a win in this Superbowl be more significant to the Pats legacy than a win in 07 would have been.
I guarantee BB lost no preparation time over this.

What do you expect? I have boycotted them since spygate, except for when the Pats are on their ****ty network and I have no choice. They`re closer to Jerry Springer than they are a good Sports reporting network.

"But if it deflated from 12.5 to 12.3, it would. So we will take steps in the future to make sure we don’t put ourselves in that type of potential situation again."

Why would BB use these specific numbers, unless the balls really were down only .2 psi when they were rechecked at the half?

If that turns out to be the case, I might never stop laughing.

I'm very surprised they haven't reported LeBron's thoughts on DeflateGate yet.....

I agree that these all these remarks were carefully prepared. Brady and ownership certainly were not surprised by anything Belichick said. In fact, it seems clear to everyone that the comments were not "normal" Belichick. Every analysis that I have heard indicates that this is Belichick's longest uninterrupted statement on any matter. This just wasn't Belichick's style.

that being the case, Belichick could have said many things. He could have said that, as coach, that he is responsible for everything that goes on. He could have said that he is investigating and he will find out exactly what happened and discipline folks appropriately (last time a cameraman was fired). But Belichick did none of these. He used his prepared comments to make a Sergeant Schultz replay to the situation "I know nothing". Further, he basically said that it Brady who would know about everything to with the football.

Some characterize this as throwing Brady under the bus. In any case, Belichick absolved himself of all controversy (similar to what happened at the college level when this issue came up).
Or he told the truth.
By the way he didn't tell anyone to ask Brady, he said the I'm sure Tom could explain how he likes the football better that I could.

Is it just me or did BB seem upset or crestfallen?
He just didn't seem his usual defiant self
I didn't see the video, but, as I commented in another post above, I thought his words as I read them were "un-Belichickian." I think this got to him. If we take him at his word, game balls are inviolable. Whatever logic allowed him to tape the Jets signals from the sidelines after the League memo forbidding it, that logic does not seem to extend to tampering with game balls.

I agree. I think he was telling the truth.

His words referring the matter to Brady were carefully chosen. He avoids saying whether he knows or does not know "how he likes the football," just that he (BB) would have nothing to do with doctoring the balls. IMO, that lends even more credibility to Belichick's remarks, as it is impossible to believe that in the thousands of hours they have spent together, the topic of Brady's preferences in the size and weight of the ball never came up.

listening to D&C on weei and getting frustrated.......

first and foremost the idea that this is the first time BB ever didn't take direct blame is BS.

Interesting that he used .2 psi down. Perhaps Mort got mixed up between 2 and .2 and BB knows the real numbers that the footballs were down. Oh that would be funny.

I love how all (media and fans here) anyone got out of Belichick's interview is that he is somehow throwing Brady under the bus. Un-****ing-real.

Actual words were

Tom’s personal preferences on his footballs is something he can talk about in much better detail and information than I can possibly provide.

Sounds like to me someone from the NFL's NY office gave mort bogus information to make the pats look bad.

Belichick said he has no idea how the balls became under inflated.

Can we presume he spoke to Brady.
It's almost impossible to believe that he did not discuss this with Brady, which is why his words are so carefully chosen. No one can ever know because none of us were "in the room," but Brady is smart enough to have spoken to BB in such a way as to give him deniability if indeed TB had an arrangement with the equipment guys.

BB was stating what should have been obvious to everyone........on game day, he's got 90 players plus an opposing coaching staff to think about .......... balls would never be on his mind.......

sports media is out to burn BB ...... watch how fast this story dries up when the focus is on Brady.....

what's Brady gonna say? "uhhhhh.....yeah......my bad......I guess I went a little too far.......my mistake"

maybe pay a fine......end of story

Yes, I quoted them a page or so above; thanks for bring them in here. They are the "carefully chosen" words to which I was referring.
