Why is it throwing Tom under a bus if it is likely true that he knows the answer to it a hell of a lot better than he does?

Well, unless they punish him solely because he's in charge, there's no way they'll be pinning anything on him. He clearly didn't know anything about the whole ball preparation process.

I can just hear Felger and Mazz saying: "What do you mean you didn't know! Belichick knows everything that goes on! You can't sneeze without him hearing about it! Ahhhhhh"

Honestly, I could tell that he didn't know on Monday when he was interviewed by the media and WEEI. He sounded like a guy who was trying to catch up to what everyone knows.

So we still don't know: who, how and when. Neither does the NFL.

I think the striking thing there is that Belichick actually referred the issue to one of his players, basically. I don't think we ever see that. it's total role reversal (how many times have we heard players say "ask coach"?)

Belichick seemed sincere IMHO that he didn't know. And I'm a chicken little conspiracy theorist.

The only thing with the "I had no knowledge" bit is ... this guys knows the rule book inside and out. And.. when Brady said something after the Ravens game about the Ravens should study the rule book, I cringed a bit; now I know why.
