Rodney: this will only motivate pats

You tell a bunch of fierce competitors that they wouldn't be where they are now without cheating - and that's the subtext of all of this - and it's going to be a motivation on a whole different level. It's one thing to play for a championship, it's another thing to play for a championship that nobody says you deserve.

I hope the only words Belichick has when he gets the Lombardi from Goodell are "go F yourself, Roger".

You worry too much about perception. A lot of fans here do this week. I laugh at spy gate comments and defend and attack back. I scoff at deflate gate. I could give a rats ass what people think of my team and I truly mean that. Every team has warts in their history and ours is no different. They hate because they are envious and relish in this little piddly ball thing. If Bill Belichick was fired or stepped down tomorrow there would be threads on 30 other teams message boards discussing should they fire their own coach and replace him with Belichick. I guarantee it. Why? Because they believe he could get them to the promised land. They associate BB as a cheater because he is not their coach but they also know he is a winner and would do a 180 with that association if he was introduced as their coach.

Enjoy the ride, I'm hoping to see some good threads by some of the good posters after this weekend discussing strategy and the game itself. It sucks this has taken away from should be a fun week but it could be worse. We could be watching Manning or Luck playing the Seahags next Sunday. Let the media have their fun.

This is typically my stance. I'm usually the dude preaching about embracing the hate. I just read/watched a few too many negative stories I guess and I let it get to me. It's hard to avoid it, my freaking 5 yr old daughter got off of the school bus today and said "Daddy, Madison said the Patriots cheated."

Guess who's birthday party invite is getting lost in the junk mail?

LOL. I seriously challenge someone to spend a day in public and see if they avoid hearing about how the Pats cheated.

Brother, I am super sorry your daughter has to put up with this ****... Most of us here? Yeah this whole thing sucks, but we know that this whole thing has been blown up to space, but the idea of kids having to bear the burden of hearing opposing fans squawk about the integrity of the league bothers me greatly..

In times like this, there are only two words I can use to cope with this crap.

I hope the only words Belichick has when he gets the Lombardi from Goodell are "go F yourself, Roger".
"We're on to Nantucket", or a complete refusal to take the podium and instead be conspicuously indisposed at the desired moment is a more likely "FU" from BB. Brady has the goodwill to get away with blasting the league on the podium with a smarmy one-liner and wry smile. I'm not entirely sure he'd decline the opportunity. "How many ball boys does it take to deflate 4 Lombardi trophies?" Drop mic, walk off. Brady's a company man, but his company is the Patriots.

Agreed. It's the type of thing that brings a tight team together even more. If used correctly by certain team leaders and coaches it can give them that "you're fighting for the guy next to you" mentality that soldiers who have been in combat together talk about and be extremely motivating. Sort of reminds me of the 2001 SB with Bryan Cox leading the Pats onto the field introduced as the New England Patriots and not individually. Gave me frigging goose bumps and the feeling that they could actually win this thing.

Exactly.

I worked from home today, and the trip to the bus stop was the only time I stepped outside the freaking house.

"How was your day peanut?"

"Pats cheated."

WTF!

I hope you positive folks are right. Harnessed anger can be great. Internal confusion and resentment and thinking about non-game planning stuff, not so much.

Is this SB the 2007 game vs SD or is it the 2003 Lawyer Milloy game vs Buffalo?
I don't think the players are paying much attention to this. They certainly aren't obsessing over it instead of preparing for the SB

Really? I understand our team is very focused but I have a hard time believing that it isn't on their minds to a significant extent.

We're going to win the Super Bowl. Write that down, quote me sig me whatever. More confident than 07.
The Patriot haters will all be on suicide watch if we win the SB next Sunday! A monster has been created!

I think it all comes down to focus. I can see this manufactured scandal being a distraction for people, pissed off and thinking about how pissed off they are when their attention is supposed to be on films, etc.

If they truly can `ignore the noise` for the next week and a half, focus on their preparation, and then unleash all their emotions towards this garbage on the field, Seattle could be in trouble, like the Bengals were.

If they let this get the better of them and detract from their preparation, it might very well be a negative.

I imagine even if they were distracted, though, that it won't last forever, and that by now they've heard it all and are able to make the mental transition from fury over these accusations to focus on preparation. It's probably a very good thing that there's a two week wait between the Championship game and the Superbowl.

I can tell you, this is the last thing Seattle needs,'' Harrison said recently. "Those guys in that New England locker room are pumped. After all the hard work they've put in, after all they've accomplished, after all they've done, to have people doubt them?"They're taking that stuff personally. They're fired up. Add the fact Seattle was favored in the Super Bowl, and look out.''

From the macmullen article where she claims belichick should be suspended from the superbowl...
Hope so. Didnt before the 2007 superbowl. Tomase's news broke that team

This is motivation like Rodney says. They didn't need it as the Super Bowl is motivation enough. The timing of this allowed them to unite together as one against these allegations this week. Next week they will be asked nonstop about it fueling the fire even more inside them. The last time a"distraction" came out, i was either on the eve of or just a day or two before the SB. That one caught them off guard.

I agree with my man, they are going to play like wild dogs! Kill everything!

I have to admit as awful as this has all been, The Super Bowl is gonna be entertaining. The whole world will be rooting against the Pats. I can't even imagine the reaction to a Pats win. Would be worthy of a few good laughs.
I agree, Kdo5. But, I think there's one problem with our shared scenario: I think internally the NFL would rather cancel the SB than see NE win. A week ago I would have derided anyone who might suggest that. Not now. I'm a full-blown tin foil hat wearer who believes that the league at large and a certain number of teams have decided that, "Since we can't beat ya, we'll destroy ya." I can't believe I'm actually typing this, but that's how much all of this BS has changed my outlook.

I love the tast of Hateraid in the morning, it Tasts like, like Victory

It definitely ain't the 2003 opener, that's for sure. All anyone has to do is read Browner's tweet to see where their anger is directed.

IMO, Jackie went off the deep end with this article. Using Shula as an arbiter of NFL morality is ghastly. I've always thought she was more thoughtful than your average writer, but I clearly have to reassess after this stinker.

The haters being on suicide watch because the pats won would be the cherry on the cake of my day.

I think timing is important. Just like any other people, the players will experience a progression of changing emotions. Doubt, anger, disbelief, confusion, et cetera are all possible emotions for someone to experience. What they feel in the two weeks preceding the Superbowl and on gameday may be quite different.
