After the Baltimore win, the media was calling our formations, and I quote, "unethical" - `not illegal, but against the spirit of the rules.` I'll ask again: Where was the outcry about ethics when the Giants were killing the clock in the final minute of our last Superbowl by intentionally eating 12 men on the field penalties, which inflated their defense while killing the clock on every play? Where was ESPN then with their BS ethics?
Last year they were trying to discredit Brady with his diminished stats even though he brought injured JAG rookies like Dobson and Thompkins to the AFC Championship game, and threw a party for Peyton because, with the most stacked offensive talent in the league, he was able to topple Tom throwing to Hooman and Mulligan while our entire starting defense was on IR.
In the off season we were hit with "Tom is done, no longer a #5 QB, and now pure garbage.`
Most of them are just pissed at how wrong they were.
So we destroy Indianapolis, despite Phil Simms basically praying while on-air for an Indy victory, and called the entire game shamelessly in favor of a team that was getting a one sided beat down.
Whispers of speculation arose that Peyton Manning's sudden decline came because he had to suddenly stop taking a performance-enhancer the league started testing for half way through the season. Sure, it's only speculation, but `it's only speculation` isn't stopping them this week from barraging the air-waves with how Belichick should be suspended next year "if" it's discovered he dangled down from the ceiling mission-impossible style to deflate footballs already cleared by the officials, in order to defeat a feeble Indy team we dominate by three or four scores every time we see them, home or away.
So 11 of 12 balls were found to be deflated. They had already dubbed this "deflate-gate" before they even knew that, and even now, still don't know ANYTHING. The media has been looking for reasons to discredit and destroy this Patriot team all season long. Before `we were finished` and a "weak" team, lead by a quarterback in steep decline. "Bench Tom." "Tom is going to be traded to Arizona." "Blah, blah blah."
Then we started annihilating everybody. Going into the playoffs it was all about "how bad the Patriots have been" in the post season, even though the numbers, which they all love so much, say that Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback in post season history, in a year where both QB and coach were about to start toppling some serious post season records. Never the less, "Baltimore has our number", even though we're what? 8-3 against them?
Then it was "unethical formations," which, by the way, are completely legal, and not unethical at all.
The story and `outrage` for this stupid deflated balls story was manufactured and already written before anyone even knew there was a HINT of wrong doing. Now that there is possibly a slight hint of credibility to something that might have gone wrong, or against the rules, even if they have no idea where the breach of these rules originated from, they're going to swarm like there's blood in the water.
This is nothing more than a continuation of the campaign against the Patriots that has been on-going for a long time, and, in my opinion, an all out assault by the Patriot-haters to (A.) try to discredit the hard work and skills and victories of this football team, and (B.) cause a MAJOR distraction for the players hoping that it will affect their preparation for the Superbowl while they keep their fingers crossed that we lose.
The industry of sports-media is completely #%$#ing corrupt and it's becoming enough to just say to hell with it and find a new hobby.
This onslaught is so relentless right now that I'm going to assume there is no freaking way that it isn't affecting the Patriot players and significantly distracting them as they watch film and try to prepare for Seattle, and on top of SLANDERING a model franchise for its success, this is exactly what the most vicious of these vultures want.
