2015 Draft Prospect Thread

I don't expect anyone to jump on this particular bandwagon because my eval is purely based upon a couple of tweets and some all-22 highlight film, but I think I've found my Jimmie Ward for this year. It's Kansas safety Cassius Sendish who CBS don't consider draftable and I'm not yet suggesting he is. But boy, the highlight tape suggests he's exactly the type of safety I love and he plays just like Jimmie Ward did.

The tweets:

There's a 38 min all-22 highlight video on youtube which I won't post but if anyone wants me to I will. But watching it, his instincts really are apparent. Might have to dig up some Kansas games for him.

So I just finished watching part 1 of his 15 min all 22 highlight real, and all I can say is, WOW. Yes the instincts are obviously there, but he also appears to have fairly decent football IQ. He seems to analyze, process, and adjust to things fairly quickly. On top of that he is a great tackler, and very patient. I don't know how he isn't gaining more interest? This all goes back to what I was saying last night about this draft being very deep in developmental talent. Nice Find! Im going to have to sort through the rest of his film I can find

I know they were only highlight stuff but I was blown away. Can't believe he's not on the draft radar currently. I suspect it's because he only had one INT and because he's not 6'2". I was a huge fan of Jimmie Ward last year as others will attest and he was lowly ranked for a long time. This guy looks to be a carbon copy.

Southern Miss's Rakeem Nunez-Roches has an incredibly high motor, great body type and looks very athletic fro a DT.

You'll want to check out the play at 0:40 below. 50 yard hustle to tackle a ball carrier.

Edit: Also, please check out his COD ability at 6:49.

He's listed at 6-2, 305 but I think he's lighter than that. But if he is, he's ridiculously athletic for that size. Another athletic Golden Eagle? I'm intrigued.

Southern Miss has had someone drafted in the top three rounds the last three years and:

USM has someone drafted ahead of both ole miss and state the past 3 yrs and Nunez-Roches will make it a 4th straight
https://twitter.com/SouthernMiss444/status/548891330210848768

They might struggle this year with Mckinney, Golson, Prewitt and Preston Smith. Nunez-Roches looks impressive though although he looks a tad undersized to be an every down interior lineman.

OK, I've just found my favourite Nunez-Roches play. Please go to 14:29. Nunez-Roche's is playing the 5-tech at LDE. He gets double-teamed by the RG and RT. The offence runs a play around the right end of the line. Nunez-Roche's moves the double team so that the play can't go outside him thus setting the edge and when others make the tackle, N-R just throws the double-team to the ground. Obviously it's a highlight video, but wow!

I know everybody is high on tre mcbride and deandre smelter. I'm favoring mcbride alittle more then smelter. But I'm posting about Green-beckam. I know the off the field issues are scary but if he's available in the fourth or so I would jump to the podium to draft him. He's someone who is said to be like aj green, Calvin Johnson, and randy moss( although I see the aj green comparison alittle more clearly). If we can get that kind of talent for TB12 it should do wonders. I'm also not opposed to pickin up either of the two later in the draft. If Dobson doesn't workout then well have two receivers waiting in the wings.

So Today I thought id do a little DeAndre Smelter check in and see if I could find any updated info on the kid. Didn't really find anything new, but I did find this article in from ESPN ACC section. Its from back in October, at that point in the season, he already had 3, 100+ yard games. Im not sure if any of you have read it, but for those of you that aren't as high on the smelter pick like me, Manx, and Mayo are, I highly suggest you read this. This kid has career/lifelong Patriot written all over him. "WORK ETHIC", "WORK ETHIC", "WORK ETHIC". Thats all people have to say about the guy, you can even read some of the comments from old HS classmates in the comments section saying the same thing.

http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/75338/smelter-finds-success-far-from-where-he-started

Its crazy when you think about the fact that hadn't played football in 4 years, along side never playing the WR position (was a QB in HS). The growth he showed in under 2 years is unbelievable. We all know work ethic is the number one asset a player must have to succeed in the NE. Who knows, maybe belichick can crank up some double option WR trick plays with him and Jules in the future (think TB, Moss, and Donte Stallworth 2007)

Needless to say, Ive fully become content with the thought of taking him with our early 4th round pick. Previously I felt we should use it for another player, and take a chance and hopefully get him with our 6th( Tampa Bays). I no longer feel we can pass up on this guy, he is just to perfect of a candidate to be a Patriot.

Like seriously, what do we have to do to make sure he's on the Patriots radar come draft time?

The Pats drafted Jemea Thomas from Georgia Tech last year, so it's obviously a school they scout. The Pats have also actively scouted Georgia Tech B-Back Synjyn Days, and have told him they want to work him out privately after his pro day:

I think there's a good chance Smelter may already be on their radar.

What is your guys opinion on Smelters teammate, and the person who replaced him after his injury, Darren Waller? 6'6 5/8 (so almost 6'7) 245lbs and runs a 4.54, 40. Looks like he could be a possible TE convert or a Hybrid WR/TE. Looks to have really good ball tracking skills and could probably kill the seams. He appears to have soft hands and almost looks like he just plucks the ball out of the air, just like Gronk appears to do when he catches balls. Extremely raw, but the talent is there. Possibly a poor mans Devin Funchess lol. He reminds me of a slightly less agile Jimmy Graham, but he has a much much faster top end. He probably runs a really fast 100 meter for a guy of his size. Once he hits his stride he can check out. Im sure with some BB trickery this guy could become a mismatch nightmare. Looks like he could possibly go un-drafted, but I get the feeling his stock is rising after his good finnish to the season in absence of Smelter. He also had a few good reports out of East-West shrine game.

2014
: Had a a few pretty big games when stepping in for smelter, especially in their bowl game against Mississippi state

If you consider that BB worked out Benjamin last year and we signed Mark Harrison, then you have to think Waller might be a possibility. There are other receivers I like more but Waller has to be on the radar.

Tell you what though, really liking the coaching these Georgia Tech guys get. They seem to play up to their talent level rather than under perform.

I saw that. I was really hoping that with some luck he'd fall within range of us. Now it seems as if he's gonna do a JJ Watt type climb up the boards. :(

Yeah they said Waller is a late bloomer and has grown 2 inches in the past year alone. I wonder if that may be a concern for some teams? I mean at some point you have to get too big right?

And yes I agree. It's almost a shame that GT still runs such a run heavy offense. With WR talent, or at least prospects like they always seem to develop, I feel like they could run a more balanced offense. The would be pretty awesome if we could grab smelter in the draft, then somehow sign Waller as a UDFA. As a TE prospect you have to like your chances with the Patriots.

Im not sure everyone will feel the same about this player. However I truly think this kid has a special football talent. He doesn't stick out in any regard besides being a straight baller. He's just one of those players that appears to be in sync with the game of football.

WR Kenny Bell from Nebraska. You could say he's Very under sized at 6,1 185. However he has great blocking reviews for a man of his size, and surprisingly good injury history considering he's a 5th year senior. Depending how we draft in the first 5 rounds of the draft. I feel like if we don't land one of the WR's we are all higher on, and more then likely those players who will go in the earlier rounds. He could be worth a shot and could instantly replace Amendola. The way he fights for extra yards has TB and the Pats game written all over him. I feel like he could be another one of the undersized player who just clicks with Brady and tears **** up (Troy Brown, Welker, And Jules of late). Only difference is I think he might be able to play the deep ball slightly better because he is a little faster top end wise.. I know we all naturally want a huge possession receiver, but another part of me thinks somehow players like this are the best for the patriots and Tom. The patriots, Tom Brady, and Bill Belichick have made a living off players like these for almost the past 20 years, so its hard to completely argue against him if we can get him in the 6-7th.

BTW, You know who else was 185 (but 5'11) and had a very similar measurable's coming out of college in 2010. Emmanuel sanders! and ES went in the 3rd. Due to the depth of this WR's class they got Bell projecting in the 5-7th. Id trade a 5th - 7th for Sanders on a rookie contract any day of the week. Yes there are no guarantees, but I would be willing to bet a good amount this kid could live up on the right team.

Last but not least "NFL scouts grade him for the next level, but Bell's work ethic, reliability and detailed approach will ensure he makes a living in the pros" The most important quality a patriot must have.

As a Nebraska fan I would love if we took him. He does let the ball into his body at times and does not always run good routes. Sometimes relies on being more athletic than the other guy.

He is very quick and accelerates fast. He is good in space and I would love to see him run some bubble screens.

I don't see the appeal in Shelton as a 1st or 2nd round pick right now.

He doesn't look that athletic to me. Functional for effective NT play but I don't see Explosiveness with a capital E. Right off the bat I think I'm looking at a 2-down player. And for a guy who projects to two gap he doesn't make plays while blocked. He stands up blockers well with his anchor but so does Sealver Siliga. Don't like his pad level either and unlike many I don't necessarily look at pad level as fixable.

I really think we can do better.

Nice find. He carries 305 lbs extremely well if that's an accurate measurement. Need to see more.
