ESPN: 11 of 12 footballs under inflated by 2 pounds of air.

The nation is sick of the Patriots and they hate Bellichick. The NFL sends in a squad to investigate because it just broke records for ridiculousness and Baddell is under heavy scrutiny. I would also like to add that I don't think Bill told someone to take air out of the balls.. that's probably more on the QB. Personal preference if there was any such tampering.

first, I don't think it's as big of a deal as it is being made out by the hating media.....second, when I said 'it's on Brady', I said it in the context that it's the QB who works with the equipment guy to make the balls the way he wants them.....it didn't say it in a negative way, I said in an matter of fact way since he is the critical player when it comes to ball characteristics. It is quite possible that BB didn't even have a clue.....

I'm sure BB didn't have a clue. Do people really think he's sitting there pre-game worrying about Andrew Luck and then goes "oh ****! I forgot to deflate the balls. Equipment boy, get on it, STAT!" No. Maybe Brady likes throwing balls a little less inflated. The equipment boy probably knows how Brady likes the feel, he probably gets them to that point and shows them to Brady. The only person who knows the PSI at any point is some equipment manager who probably wants to make the GOAT QB happy.

The whole thing is quite silly & trivial, but the NFL has once again made it seem far more important than it is with the dog & pony show. I hate these guys. They really are stupid. I'm not sure you could collect a dumber group of people and put them in charge of a more lucrative organization. Really goes to show you how good the product of football is when the A-Holes running the NFL can't screw it up even when they try.

If a game ball was 10.5 PSI you'd actually be able to see contact points from players fingers/thumbs on the ball.

I think ...the Patriots always step up to adversity and the doubters.....this has always helped them...
it puts us in the underdog..category......and you know what that mean......

GO PATS....

I honestly think nobody cared until some colt got pissed at having their ass handed to them ..... again

The problem I have is every ball used was inspected by the refs at the moment it was put into play and at that moment the refs didn't believe there were any issues with the balls, including the ball that was intercepted. As had been stated elsewhere, if the refs believed the ball was underinflated they would have either tossed it out or reinflated it. This should not be on the Pats.

And this makes me question the Indy story. If the refs could not feel a difference, the Indy players, who are dumb stiffs, can? No, there is something else to this.

It was the indy equipment guy.

This wins stupidest story of the year. People hate the Patriots because we're so good and people are jealous of Boston because the have to live in their ****ty city

Does anyone know if the 12 balls the Colts used were also inspected. Because if their weight of their balls didn't change, it would put a hole in our "the weather caused the deflation" defense.

If this cost the Patriots a #1 Draft Pick I'm DONE with Football Period!

For the umpteenth time: it's not weight, it's PRESSURE.

Why has belichick been so quiet about this? He looks guilty everyday that passes.

The amount of idiotic reporting and comments I've seen regarding this story has me so dis-heartened that I honestly don't know if I will be watching the NFL next year. As much as I hate to say it I may just find a lingerie league team to root for and follow all season. Seriously, the NFL has become so tedious to follow. It's not even fun anymore. The officiating and commercial breaks completely destroy the flow of the game (ie, flags thrown every other play and not thrown when they should be). And on top of the actual games then we have to deal with crap like this. This very well may be the last Super Bowl game I watch, and good riddance to Roger F#^$-Face Goodell and his peanut league.

Watching a lot of fans here try to justify 11 of 12 balls being under inflated by exactly 2 PSI is pretty disgusting.

It's not the weather, plenty of colder games have been played.

Actually basic science says weather would've reduced the pressure of the balls since pressure is related to temperature. If a ball is 12.5 psi at room temperature (~70 degrees), it will drop approx. 1.0 - 1.5psi based on a game temperature of (40 - 45 degrees).

The Patriots (and most every other team in the league) aren't stupid. They realize that if you want a ball to be under the 12.5psi during a cold weather game, you fill it up to the 12.5psi required for the pre-game check by the referees and then let the weather do its "magic" over the course of the game.

If you took the Colts game balls and measured them, I bet they'd come in with a similar variance in pressure.

From another forum, this was from a school the guy works in...there's no way a referee wouldn't notice -2 PSI:

What about 1.5 psi?
