In my opinion, the pats have all the leverage in the world.

Pull out of the super bowl if the nfl dares to penalize you.

That would be the biggest story in sports history and something the nfl couldn't recover from.

I'm that hot right now.

Not sure why many are assuming that eleven balls being under inflated is indicative of guilt.

There are many possible explanations that have been apparently overlooked by some in this thread. For example, the physics based on temperature drop from inside the referee's locker room, to outside temperature that night. Also, whether or not the referees did not check the pressure prior to the game, as they are supposed to do.

The PSI is meaningless without a baseline comparison. Unless there is some visual or eyewitness testimony of nefarious dealings, then it shouldn't mean a thing. There are too many other plausible explanations.

The Patriots will be excoriated in the court of public opinion regardless. But the NFL really needs to have some sort of smoking gun, beyond the PSI measurement.

Yeah apparently our "fans" would love to see BB fired because they know for a FACT he must have done it!!!!!!!!! Thank god for our insightful "fans" on this board solving mysteries without any doubt! Kudos guys!

The most interesting aspect of that Volin tweet is that if the balls were found to be under inflated at the half, then wouldn't that have hurt the Pats instead of helped them?

The Colts didn't score a point for the rest of the game, while the Pats went on to score 21 in the third quarter alone.

So in that case, I'm not sure what the fuss is about. We shot ourselves in the foot with a dumb equipment manager, mistake was fixed, balls back up to the right size and we went out and destroyed.

Again, I don't know what to believe anymore.

I'm convinced now that belichick saw his team put the ball on the ground 3 or 4 times vs bal & decided to have the game balls deflated to be softer to give his players a better grip on the ball....inexcusable

The balls are speced to what TFB is comfortable throwing .

I have no problem with Bill pushing the rules and doing what it takes to win. Just don't think it was needed in this case. The risk wasn't worth the reward.

But again, we still don't know if it was intentional or not.

Anyways, stop calling for his job. He's not getting fired, and there is not a single person we could hire that would be a better HC than him.

Quick question, since you're so sure of your position:

If BB is guilty of intentionally ordering this, how does Kraft justify anything short of a long suspension or firing?

Actually, this is a better look for him. It makes him totally oblivious to what was going on with the balls. Or the refs are just incompetent and didn't let him know they tested the balls. I mean if he knew, he would have said, yeah the officials mentioned the balls were under regulation so we used new ones.

Man, all I know is for a billion dollar organization, Pats PR really is not very aggressive. They need to take more of a Redskins PR approach for stuff like this :)

I think this at times makes it worse, perception wise.. They never ever defend themselves, ever... Just take it.. It boggles the mind

The fact that all of the balls weighed the same seems to make it unlikely they could have been altered once the game started. Regardless of all the eyes and cameras that could see the activity, I doubt the balls would weigh in the same if some one was lowering it by feel.

It is possible they were low when given to the refs, but then it is on the refs to catch it.

This reminds me of wrestlers going to extreme measures to get their weight within a certain class.
Well the claim is they were altered before they went to the ground.

"No wonder the pats demolished the colts second half, imagine being in that locker room and those refs come in to check the pressure and inflate those balls right in front of you?"

It does explain the very weird late-game drive where the pats were up by 40 or whatnot and Brady tried to force a bomb to LaFell. Seemed like a "FU" sort of play.

The math here is 12.5 PSI at 112 degrees = 11 PSI at 45 degrees. It could be the answer and it would be legal as the rules don't forbid hot air to be used. I haven't heard 11 PSI though. I think they are in trouble unless the reffs just didn't measure before hand and just said yea this feels good. Per Rogers this is what he counts on.

I'm just gonna pack it in for the night. I've come to the conclusion that Deus is completely right. Until the NFL releases the full report, who the hell are any of these reporters to say what happened? We have one guy saying the balls were delivered Friday and tested then, we have another saying the balls weren't given back until 2 minutes before game time, we have another actually saying the balls were 2 pounds too light (which is just bad journalism; at least get your units of measurement correct), and etc. etc.

There are several contradictory reports out right now that are all stemming from Mortenson's. Who's is completely right? Nobody honestly knows.

Someone from the Pats needs to get a statement out refuting this.

That report was contradicted by Jackson himself. He didn't notice it. He handed the ball to the equipment manager. He noticed it.

Have you got a link for that? I haven't seen it.

Thanks for the info, BTW.

at this rate, we don't even know how accurate Mort's report is. I'm holding off judgment until I have the facts.

The lb didn't notice it. He brought it to their sideline and the trainers thought it was a little soft.
