The difference between McCarthy and Belichick

The Packers DB going to the ground after the fourth pick of Wilson with 5 min. left was ridiculous. Hold the ball high and tight, get yards and then go down with both arms on the ball when contact is imminent. Could have gotten GB into field goal range.
I lost my mind when he did that. Five minutes to go, and GB played like they could just run the clock out.

Last night, on NFL Network, Deion Sanders was talking about the differences between GB and New England. What he said was (and I'm paraphrasing here) that when New England gets the ball, they try and kill you. There's nothing nice about it. They're not going to sit on a lead. They're gonna try and keep putting points on the board until there's no possible way for you to come back, and then they'll put some more on, just because.

He (Sanders) said he really liked that approach, because it shows that they WANT to win, and that they are playing the way a team is supposed to.

You can be friends after the game is over, but while the clock is ticking, your job is to stop the other side by whatever means you can, under the rules of the game. This is professional football. There's no piling on, or running up the score. If you want to stop the other team from scoring, then get your butt out there are STOP them. If you have a chance to score, then SCORE. Put so many points up that the other side loses it's will to compete.

Green Bay's coach ought to be fired. TWICE he had the chance, at Seattles 1 yard line (or closer) to run the ball in, and as was stated earlier in the thread, if you don't punch it in, then that's probably okay too, as you'll have Seattle backed up just outside their own damned goal line. Great chance for a Safety, even better chance for a strip sack and score. If you hold them to three and out, then you'll still get the ball back with great field position.

It's wasn't Green bay's players who lost that game. It was the coaching staff, and they need to be removed from their jobs and someone else brought in.

Mc Carthy said that he wanted to run the ball 20 times in the 2nd half. When GB got the ball with 5:00 to go after the interception, he just ran the ball even when SEA had 9 guys up near the LOS. This inflexible thinking, no ability to adapt and change, is the sign of a lack of intelligence. Thompson can't fire him this year, but he's probably going to let him go the first chance he gets.

His game plan screams that he thoughy the game was over at halftime and took a nap until the Seahawks went ahead in the 4th

BB coaches situational football and McCarthy doesn't. BB likes to supposedly run up the score and win while McCarthy kindly does the opposite and gives points away. lol.

Honestly that was all around one of the worst choke jobs I have ever seen. I find most meltdowns funny but this was of the sad variety. Unlike most meltdowns, the Packers can't even blame the refs in this one. The media will somehow turn this game into a story of a great comeback made by the Seahawks for two weeks.

Rodgers gets some blame too. He cowered in fear of Sherman even when he was down an arm. Brady would have relentless attacked an obvious weakness. Our team would have at least forced Sherman to make a few tackles to see if he even could. Sherman doesn't move and covers whoever is in front of him. In that situation, can you imagine a one-armed Sherman bringing down Gronk. Nelson is no Gronk but he is pretty big.

If they do that at this point, they'll replace McCarthy with their own version of Norv Turner. :D

At first I thought there were lots of Seahawks players so the DB just went to the ground. I thought fair enough, safe move not to fumble. Today I find out that there was a whole lot of green and apparently Julius Peppers was telling him to go down? WTF! That's just pitiful.

The fake field goal, never going to happen against the Patriots. What is up with that player who went at the punter instead of covering the man downfield. Allow 1st down > Allow touchdown duuuh!

Cover zero, hah! Shades of 2011 Broncos vs Steelers. I'd be curious to know how many times we've seen cover zero in OT in the playoffs where the offense couldn't take advantage.

Bad coaching. Just terrible. How did we lose to this team?

yeah, the play in overtime really got me as well. You KNOW that the opposing team NEEDS a touchdown to win and you have no safety our there for help?

That play reminded me of the Patriots' SB vs. Green Bay, when Lawyer Milloy was caught up near the LOS against one of GB's wideouts (I forget who). Favre checked to a post, and the WR beat Lawyer off the line for six.

I would estimate that about 95% of Packers fans I know who post on forums would agree with this 1000%.

When you have the other team on the ropes you KILL them, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady style. The contrast between the two games was incredible. McCarthy doesn't have enough faith in his offense to go for it on 4th and less than 1 TWICE. The Patriots meanwhile are up by 20 or 30 and are still throwing bombs. Why? Because you don't want to give the other team even a glimmer of hope. What if Luck suddenly caught fire and the Pats made a few blunders a la GB? You make it irrelevant before it happens.

As a Packer fan I'm still in disbelief, and yes, I blame the players for some ridiculous mistakes, but I blame MM for setting the wrong tone, especially in the 2nd half. When you start playing not to lose it affects the attitude of your team, and you could just see how the Packers relaxed well before the game was over.

Should be a good SB between these 2 teams.

What amazed me is on first possession OT, no safety over the top of Kearse to prevent a game winning TD.

ummmm okay.

Agree 100%. Yeah I mean a TD and the games over a FG and you still have a shot.../boggle

The second Seattle turnover, the 4th down was in the 4 yard line if I`m not mistaken, then 4 yards I can understand settling for the field goal.

The first pick on the other hand was a gift, they were in field goal range, Rodgers threw a pick, it's over, you are not going to score in that drive and you might as well see the other team score. It didn't happen, they got the ball back in an even better position, then, in a situation like this, still very early in the game, you go from 7.

That was MM biggest mistake, this and not playing the fake on that fake FG. Absolutely basic situational football, you give the 3 on those circumstances.

I heard that too, and that was my thinking exactly. Sounds like he's taking his play calling philosophy from some people on this forum.

I can understand the automatic field goal the first time, as getting on the board first is a great momentum builder and missing it might have killed morale if they failed. The second time, they shoudl have gone for it.

Another key difference: Belichick is preparing a Super Bowl game plan while McCarthy is working on his golf game.
