I think Goodell remains because he's a useful idiot. You never even heard Tagliabue's name. You can't go a week without Goodell screwing something up and then going on camera and smiling. Its like seeing your kid scribble with crayons on the wall and then he looks at you with pride at what he's done because he doesn't even understand.

What do we have, Patriots, Saints supposed bounty, Cowboys and Redskins salary cap, "rule emphasis." Every drug testing case that gets challenged they lose, when the refs make a laughable call, the commissioner backs them up with a more laughable fine. The guy has the Midas touch for turning everything into ****. And when something easy does come across his desk like Ray Rice, he completely screws it up.

But he's an equal opportunity screw up. Idiots are more trustworthy, they can be manipulated in a way that smart people can't. Goodell is that competitive edge for owners, because he can be used as a tool to bludgeon their enemies. Goodell is a tool, and as long as he remains more useful to more than half the owners we are stuck with that dull edged tool.

Goodell is awful when it comes to PR and organizational type decisions. However, he has made the owners a lot of money. Until that money begins to dry up or he starts hurting the bottom line, he's not going anywhere.

love the fact that every game the Cheatriots win there is an asterisk by it! Gotta suck being a fan and not being able to enjoy it!

If the Pats do win we'll have to suffer the slings and arrows of the losers.

We can live with a Pats win much better than you can.

As a matter of fact, all the Asterjerks make it more enjoyable.

FWIW, this is nice motivation for the Patriots. I can hear the pre-game locker room speech by BB (similar to what he said prior to the SB vs Carolina.)

"Ok, guys this is the fact. The world doesn't think we can win a game without doing something underhanded. They think that deflating balls, taping teams, putting four OLs on a line are the only ways we can win games. Well I have news for them, we are a great football team. We work hard. We play tough and every goddamn win we have we've earned with our commitment to this team and to each other. Tonight, you have a chance to shove it back in their faces. I'm sick and tired of the media, the league and our opponents slapping us in the face every time we win a game and belittling our achievements. I fully expect that you all will do your jobs tonight and play your game. If you do that, there is no way Seattle beats us. No way. They are the champs. They deserved it. It's time for you to deserve it- to be called champions."

I don't think Pete Carroll will do anything to diminish what the Pats accomplish.

Pagano will clearly sling mud to make it seem that losing by 38 points isn't all his fault

I'm shocked a Broncos fan would weigh on on this, if the balls Manning was throwing this season were fully inflated then that's just sad.

Bronco and Indy fans are more educated about ball washing than ball weighing.

Indy might have trouble with Gay-Lussac's Law being all sciency and having you know, that word in it but Gay-Lussac's Law is the scientific law that shows the correlation between temperature change and PSI.

I understand that a dome team won't necessarily get that there is something called variable weather which causes things like rain, snow and changing air pressure for football. It is scientifically impossible for PSI to stay the same with changing temperatures outside of a climate controlled dome and a 2 degree temperature drop will cause a 12.5 PSI football to read less. So will big men spiking and falling on it. It is being reported that the Colts made the complaint and that the NFL had to look into it. This is actually embarrassing for anyone who does not understand this and this whole thing just proves how clueless the Colts are about life outside a dome. The ball must be in compliance when measured, after that mother nature and use affects PSI

Unless there is some evidence of someone deflating the balls this is a total wild goose chase and it would be scientifically impossible for a ball to still measure 12.5 PSI with a even 2 degree temperature drop, never mind deflation from use.

Every ball in this game measured at 12.5PSI 2 hours before the game would be a maximum of 11.9 at half time because of the temperature drop that night. This means every ball could be underinflated during the game and still be legal as ...the rules are about pressure at the time measured, not through the game.

Using Science, 12.5 Pound (PSI) at 72 degrees (assuming measured inside Sunday) would translate to 12.5/ 295.928K (72 degrees Kelvin) this translates to a PSI of 11.72557 at 40 degrees.

We have all seen balls, balloons and tires go flat just sitting so imagine a 250 pound running back landing on it and also having defensive linemen on him as well. Of course it deflates more with heavy abuse, people falling on it and spikes. Additionally it will further loose pressure because of the humidity in the air and the declining temperature. A ball could be well under 10 PSI easily with abuse like this.

Indy is completely clueless about science and football outside a dome. The NFL would have had no choice but to investigate a complaint and Bob Kravitz reported it. This is a smear campaign by idiots.

I think that's part of the thinking, but I would argue that you could have the same growth with a lamp as an NFL commissioner. In fact ratings were down this week from last year, and if you can believe the general vibe from fans it's because they find the NFL's capricous and machevellian fines and rules to have overwhelmed the integrity of the game. That comes directly from Goodell. PR is exactly his job, the NFL will run itself, the teams do not need a league office. Goodell's whole job is PR and to at least project the image of integrity. If he can't do that, then he can't do the one job he has.

And the longer the NFL decides to let it fester without a clear and public finding, the worse it will be.

"Oh, it's the Patriots? Let them dangle throughout the Super Bowl and after".

One fact we need to accept is that Patriots players don't care at all about this. It won't be a distraction in the least.

It's only worry-wort & over -sensitive Patriots FANS that will be distracted.

Personally, it's not a big deal to me. Let it fester however long because I actually want the hatefest to grow. Do I want the respect of NFL fans everywhere? Nope! Why would I care?

This doesn't reflect upon fans or the Patriots organization. It's all made up BS. Even the Ravens bordered on calling the Pats cheaters...it is what it is

I seriously didn't see this story being number one everywhere. All of this just so the NFL can say, "We discovered nothing."

I'm definitely not arguing with you that you could have the same growth with another Commissioner at the helm. But they know what they have with Goodell, for better or worse, and it's making them a lot of money in spite of all the "distractions."

Bruschi on D&H:

“It’s a long line of people that want to step up and make an excuse as to why their team lost,” Bruschi said. “Tom [Brady] said it earlier that he’s heard it all and I echo that. I’ve heard it all too in terms of you want to look at the New England Patriots and all the success and you want to wonder why. A part of you thinks if you’re not a fan, not a player, not a coach, it’s like why couldn’t we achieve it. Well, you want to point the finger and make some type of reason. Get in line, it’s a long line.

“But, it feels good to be a player in that locker room knowing that you frustrate someone that much — that you frustrate someone that much that they are talking about some type of ball controversy, or fans or whatever because all they ever do in that locker room and on that team is move on from it. You laugh at it behind the scenes and you joke a little bit about it up there and you really just disregard it. Say however you want to feel about it, but who got the win and that is what is important.”

Well said Tedy.

Just like the Patriot players...I love that my team frustrates other fans. I love the excuses.

Scoreboard don't lie. Pats are AFC Champs. Fact. And I really truly believe we're going to have more to celebrate in less than 2 weeks.

Personally, all these false accusations make this year the most fun we've had in years!

I think this is awesome because if we win the SB, there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Deceptive plays & football air pressure? Hahahahahaha!!!!!

Was listening to D&C this morning, a rarity, and they referred to this vitriol written by Michael Rosenberg of SI...

How about the other "jumbotrons" freaking rumpswab..

How ingrained is the culture? On one end of Gillette Stadium is a lighthouse, the stadium’s signature architectural feature. But if you sit behind the opposite end zone and look at the lighthouse, you will notice something else: An enormous television beyond the lighthouse, in the parking lot.

Officially, this allows people in the parking lot to watch TV. Is it a coincidence that you can see that TV from the Patriots’ sideline, but not from the opposing sideline, making it easier for the Patriots to watch replays and decide whether to throw the challenge flag?

Seriously? They show the f'n replay in the stadium, why would they need the CBS scene one... What a jackass.

It shows the vitriol and narrowmindedness of the press towards this team.. I wish the Pats would contest this shyt..

Kraft needs to cash in his good will with Goodell and squash this as soon as possible. It's not good for anyone.

We fans would like them to do that, but it's not going to happen. That is not how this team rolls

I was so distressed by this whole fiasco last night I downed 6 Captain and Kava's. Rough morning.

What the rest of the league and nfl fan base does not know is that criticism of the pats will bring the team closer together - us against the world - just like it did after the KC game.
