Mr Kraft, The Time has Come To Ask: Whose Side Are You On?

I'm wondering if maybe sleep deprivation has to do with 56 pages of complete panic in the other thread. Otherwise, I don't know. I get that we are all over invested in the team somewhat….that's why we're all here. But maybe we need to dial it down a bit. What's all this "Now we have to deal with this…" stuff. We are on the internet battling trolls. We choose to do that, for the most part. If people on the internet (who don't care one bit about the truth anyway) are that upsetting, it's probably time to step away for a bit.

This was by far the most intelligent thing I have read today!

And this is coming from someone who commented in that thread!

After the 2007 loss in the Superbowl, I took it SOOO hard I realized I had to dial it back.

And I will admit I dialed it back A LOT after that loss. I used to be all over the message boards. Now I occasionally lurk and will go months and months without posting. And sometimes months without lurking. Wouldn't watch sports shows. Would only watch games, skip half time, skip pregame.

Realized there was no sense getting so emotionally involved in something I had ZERO control over.

But recently I had started getting a little more "over invested" and today was a buzzkill for me. Not like it would have been pre 2007.

Just disappointed that after a big win like that, I was looking forward to enjoying it for a few days. Was tuning into the radio shows I had not tuned into in forever to hear about the Pats and how good the O and D looked and some game analysis only to find no one talking about the game.

It was "deflating".

But whatever.

Anyway, quoting again just because

I'm really hoping I don't get to say " I told ya so" on this one. Cmon Mr Kraft, take a stand!

I agree 100% on this, and just to add more context to this matter, I'm from Brazil, and although the sport has been growing in popularity here over the last few years, it's still far from being popular. However, today I saw on the main page of a popular news website here the following headline "Gisele Bundchen Husband's Team Accused of Cheating" or something like that.

The only deflated balls Sunday, belonged to the Green Bay Packers coach !

Mr Kraft, please don't imatate Mike Sherman.

Well, I guess I'm just not as concerned with the bottom line, for the team or the NFL. To be perfectly honest, it took me a long time (until 2007/8) to realize no one else in my circle of friends and acquaintances gave a damn about sports and their respective NFL teams like I did. I alienated quite a few people by going absolutely ballistic on them with facts and stats if they tried to trash talk with me. They honestly did not really care….it was just a way to have some conversation. For me, it was much more. But its not anymore and it hasn't been in a while. For one thing, I'm not even sure football in its current state will even be around in 30-40 years. And if its gone, who gives a **** who the greatest team or QB was? No one. It just doesn't matter. And so why should I care if other fan bases or joe dipshit on Facebook or Felger or anyone else thinks about BB or Brady? I know they are the greatest of all time at what they do and that's enough for me. If others think its "tainted" or whatever, who cares? It's just perception and with the "Oooh, something shiny!" mentality of the news today, perception can change anytime it wants to. So why expend the energy? If we win the Superbowl again, you know who will really care about it in my life? Me. My dad and brother. My son. And absolutely no one else. They'll all be talking about Katy Perry or something the next day.

I guess if your identity is completely wrapped up in what others perceive about your team, this matters a whole lot more. Mine's not. In the grand scheme of things, the NFL and its inner workings is not that big a deal except to the people it makes loads of money for.

At least in my case, it has nothing to do with my identity being wrapped up in what others perceive about my team. It has to do with constantly hearing the same **** over and over. It's like listening to a Culture Club song, for crying out loud.

Yeah, I know. I don't like hearing it either. That's why I only come here for pats stuff. I used to follow everything else and then I just couldn't anymore.

Here's my thinking. If the league has a few severly deflated balls - I believe they will say that this is below the norm and that Pats are guilty. What else can they say? Man. What a roller coaster. Spy gate .... The sequel. Wow. Could have never imagined.

I think in the end it will turn out that kraft was right to give no credence to this ridiculous media creation of making something out of nothing.

How'd that work out with Cameragate?

Kraft has been ball washing Goodell in hopes of getting a superbowl in New England.
Why else would he make himself look like a fool, by supporting the way Goodell handled the Ray Rice fiasco?

Innocent until proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt is just a memory.

Sad, isn't it.

For one day handling it my screaming "I'm not a crook" might feel better but in the long run giving it no legitimacy is a better move.

I'm not proposing Kraft come out and just give some speech.

I'm saying he should not accept the NFL's ridiculous plan to take 4+ weeks (through and beyond the Super Bowl) to come up with a report on this. This ensures that the entire SB experience will be under this cloud.

He can and should demand that a full and clear investigation be made and the findings unequivocally published on this within 48 hours. How complex and nationwide is this? Examine the 12 balls, interview the ref and the linesmen, get a full debriefing from the equipment manager and ballboys.

This isn't the Warren Commission. There is no excuse for the timetable put out this afternoon.

We should be brave, just like Bill:

I knew if the Patriots made it to the Super Bowl that some in the media would spew crap in an attempt to entice non-Pats fans with low-hanging fruit of implications of impropriety, but this is ridiculous.

For example, here is something from SI. I wouldn't have been surprised if it came from a newspaper or radio station from the hometown of a rival team, but this coming from a nationally recognized magazine/website causes it to add credence.

If you don't want to give the writer and SI the benefit of a click, here's a synopsis on NESN:

Sports Illustrated: Patriots Cross Lines Other Teams Wouldn't Dare Crossing | NESN.com

NFL teams visiting Gillette Stadium, deflated balls are the least of your worries. The New England Patriots apparently are devious, rule-bending jerks. Even building Patriot Place, the shopping plaza surrounding Gillette Stadium, was merely an elaborate scheme to help head coach Bill Belichick cheat, according to Sports Illustrated.

In a column framed around the accusation that the Patriots deflated balls in Sunday’s 45-7 AFC Championship Game win over the Indianapolis Colts, Sports Illustrated listed many other ways in which the Patriots “cut corners.”

Here are some:

–Patriots staffers who supply the visiting team with towels eavesdrop and report back findings to the home team.

–Opposing coaches put locks on their locker room to prevent Patriots staffers from walking in to grab play sheets.

–Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t follow the unwritten rule to run by his ineligible formations with the league office before running them last Saturday

–Belichick instead ran it by NFL referee Bill Vinovich before the game in hopes to confuse and intimidate the official.

–And the best of all: The large monitor outside CBS Scene restaurant in Patriot Place only is visible to the Patriots’ sideline, which gives Belichick and the Patriots the advantage of being able to see replays.

Wow. Break out the tin foil hats. This would be considered over the top lunacy even on a Jets fan forum message board.

Just look at how this troll masquerading as a writer at SI begins his column:

DeflateGate allegations against Bill Belichick, Patriots should come as no surprise - SI.com

This? This is totally believable. Around the NFL, people wait for stories like this to come out of New England. They wonder when Bill Belichick’s team will get nailed again. This is not as simple as saying, "Hey, they got caught for SpyGate!" It runs deeper than that.

The Patriots are suspected of cutting so many corners, their home field should be an oval. It starts in the parking lot, extends to the locker room, goes right to the field of play, and makes opponents look all over Gillette Stadium, wondering what Belichick will pull next.

I'm surprised that you are surprised.

I'm always perplexed by the members of this forum who expect the national media to react any differently with the Patriots. The minute I heard of this this morning I wrote here that it would be a $hitstorm, facts be damned. Any story for the media of this ilk with Belichick is like waving a juicy steak in front of a starving lion at the zoo.

Two things were inevitable:

1) The national media would seize on this and turn it into a culture war
2) some posters here would adopt the "I don't care what the rest of the world thinks, here in my room it just doesn't matter" stance.

.......and unfortunately, Bob Kraft would do nothing and let it all drift just as 90% of the nation believes to this day that the Patriots taped the Rams practices before SB 36.

While normally I think Kraft should step up, agree with the sentiment behind the OP, and am happy to see us pursue tampering charges against the Jets, I honestly believe this story is going to die a miserable death for Patriot haters. In fact, it's so pathetic, next time someone mentions Crygate, we'll be able to mock this `investigation` as sorry and pathetic and lump all the other garbage right in with it.

This really is a dead end.

We know the Patriots wouldn't risk everything to gain a competitive advantage against a team we've thrashed so decisively the last 3 years that it's hard to even consider them real competition (unless you're a chicken little).

As much as the allegations piss me off, this is one allegation that is just too pitiful to really get to me

Still making too much sense.
