How does BB play the Seahawks Offense?

Makes sense.

If look at the games in which Lynch was <4 ypc, 4 of the 5 teams this year were 4-3 defenses.

Team/Defense
Iggles- 3/4
Bronks -4/3
Raiders 4/3
Rams -hybrid but more 4/3
Cards 4-3

My thought was that Mayo stays middle and HT and Collins are to his side in a 4/3 alignment. However we might expect more 4/2/5 w/ Chung/Casillas playing the big nickel.
I don't think 43/34 matters.
I think we play 2 bigs and 5 LB/DE type of guys in the base.
My guess is VW and Branch play most of the base snaps inside, and Jones, Nink, Collins, HT and Ayers are the other 5 in one package and 3 bigs plus Jones, Nink, HT, Collins in others.

Did Mayo have an unexpected recovery and eligibility for the Supe? ;)

Kearse & Beast-Mode and contain Wilson in the pocket.

Pretty simple. Revis erases Baldwin. Browner on Willson. Arrington on Kearse. Chung. Ryan. McCourty cover the rest of the no names.

Collins is locked on Wilson all game.

It's crazy to think how many more weapons we have than them on offense. If we execute on offense and don't settle for field goals it will be hard for Seattle to keep up with us.

I expect some contain rush like GB game to make Wilson get antsy in the pocket and have the clock go off in his head that he has to run, and Collins is waiting for him. GB made RW look like Ryan Lindley for 57 minutes.

BTW as far as the read option, who remembers the DEN NE game vs Tebow?
First Read Option play, Wilfork leveled Tebow on a fake when he had already handed it off. I can definitely see this being preached over and over. Have Collins level him first time they run it, with or without the ball

I could also see BB put VW, Siliga, and Chris Jones or Vellano as 3 down lineman in running downs to suck up the OLine and let the LBs do their job

I have a feeling Seattle's D is a bit better than Indy's. This could be a shootout or a low scoring game......3 points or less could be the difference between winning and losing.....

I don't see a one sided affair either way .....like the Bronco's last year.

Prepare for a nail biter.

Makes total sense. Only concern is in play action and read option and not having enough cover guys for the intermediate throws.

With that said, Pats LBs are outstanding at getting the right depth in zone coverage and Collins very good in man.

Love Mayo. Wish he was playing. Hopefully they can bring one home for the big guy.

I wonder if more bigs would be accompanied by less Chung and having Harmon out there for that reason.
I think we will play a lot of zone when in base, it only makes sense. We can attack more from sub.

I could additionally see them going very big and using VW, Branch and Siliga all in base and alternating between 3-4 and 4-3 looks moving Jones and Nink on and off the line. Bill has used this look in the past.

I'd suggest Revis on Kearse, Browner on Baldwin, Arringtron on Wilson.

Based on this data. Quick thoughts...

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/splits/_/id/14881/russell-wilson

  • Blitz
  • Flush him to the sidelines
  • 3 lineman (to your theory about LBs)
  • Bait him into throwing past 10 yards.
Not sure about the mix of LBs and DBs. Lynch getting the the second level is scary.
All so simple :)

Agree, I added that at the end. Probably should have made it more than an afterthought because I expect we mix in both.

It's two fold imo.

1. Stop/limit the run to put seattle in 3rd and longs

2. Keep russel wilson in the pocket and make him have to beat you with his arm.

Green bay did a pretty good job most of the game keeping wilson in the pocket. its when he scrambles that guys on defense get lost and players get open for the big play

whats kind of funny is that we and the rest of the NFL are now sub packages teams...but in order to win the superbowl we might be playing man D most of the day

If the Pats have to go three heavies (say Branch, Wilfork, Siliga) on the inside routinely in order to stop Lynch it is going to be a long day. Russell Wilson is going to break contain a lot against that personnel group, some receiver somewhere is going to shake free, and it is going to be infuriating to watch.

DT play is going to be so critical in this game. If the Pats win inside with two they win everywhere else almost by default.

Revis, Browner, mccourty, chung, harmon, ryan, arrington.

Wilson will have a hard time throwing against us.

It all comes down to stopping the run. Our secondary should be able to man up against their receivers. This game will come down to Jones, Wilfork, Branch and Nink. If they can disturb like the Green Bay Dl did then we are a long way to stopping this O. If Wilson breaks contain and Lynch goes for one of his better games. then we will be playing Seattle's game.

It's really quite simple....given the last 48 hours....all we gotta do is walk up to them and kick them in their balls....blowout win.

Contain rush like GB and make Wilson throw over 6'6 Branch 6'5 C Jones 6'2 but huge VW. Wilson has trouble when he doesn't have lanes opened up to throw. Get a muddy pocket and contain him there. He will make mistakes
