Updates on Injuries to Sherman and Earl Thomas?

Playing against Seattle with half of the secondary injured > Playing against GB with Rodgers in one leg

They will both undoubtedly play.
Hopefully 2 weeks will be enough time for them to heal up.

If by 'undoubtedly play' you mean, dress and show up on the turf for the coin toss and anthem sing-along... sure, I'll take your word for it. Otherwise, if we go by medical terms, I raise you and call it 'wishful thinking'.

Earl Thomas - Dislocated Shoulder
  1. You'll need to wear the sling for a few weeks, but it takes about 12 to 16 weeks to completely recover from a dislocated shoulder. You can usually resume most activities within two weeks, but avoid heavy lifting and playing sports involving shoulder movements for six weeks to three months.
  2. Dislocated shoulder - NHS Choices

Richard Sherman - Ulnar Collateral Ligament Damage/Tear

When can I return to my sport or activity?

  • The UCL usually does not heal sufficiently on its own with non-operative treatment. To return to throwing, surgery is often necessary. Return to sports after injury without surgery may take three to six months and may take nine to 18 months following surgery.
  • Rehabilitation to improve strength endurance and proper throwing mechanics is initiated. This may be carried out at home, although usually referral to a physical therapist or athletic trainer is recommended.

of course theyll play. the question will be how effective they are. Gronk played in 2011 even though he was basically a shell of himself in the superbowl.

sherman is a press-man corner. It cant be as easy to play press man coverage with one arm

lynch clutching his thigh on several occasions yesterday

He...ummm...wasnt clutching his thigh...it was something else as a F(*&^ Y&^ - probably to the league (or maybe GB) for the gold shoe crap.

They'll play, but the question is how EFFECTIVE they will be on the field. Gronk played in 2011, but wasn't nearly as EFFECTIVE as he was healthy

As several posters have already said, Sherman and Thomas will play however their effectiveness cannot be 100%.

I feel so bad for Marshawn Lynch. He really has it rough.

Not allowed to wear gold shoes. Not allowed to skip the mandatory league interviews.

Deep down, we all feel his "pain." However does he manage to stumble through the day?

speaking of which...does anyone have a sense of Stork's status and possible availability.

I think the fact alone that he hasn't been placed on IR is a good sign.

It would appear that they are hopeful that he can progress over the next 2 weeks.

Personally, I want their entire squad 100% so there will be no discussion of injury after they are dismantled.

Because of how everyone also puts an asterisk on the SB in 2007 and 2011? "The Giants won but it was not fair really because the Pats had to deal with injuries"?

Lets be honest, nobody really gives a **** about how many players are injured or limited. Unfortunately from a historic pov only winning counts.

It all sounds noble and fair but I dont think I will enjoy the offseason more if we beat Seattle at 100% than if we beat them at 80%.

I keep hearing the media say that the Seahawks got good news because it is "only a sprained elbow" for sherman....

but looking at what a sprained elbow is online, it is a tear of the ligaments in your elbow and likely you would be in a sling for 6 weeks. obviously though, it would benefit the seahawks to downplay the significance of the injury similar to the packers with rodgers

Sherman himself said it's a "strain" but it looks more significant

Well whatever happened to Sherman he looked in quite a bit of pain. He did go back in and played so it could not have been all that bad. I expect him to be close to 100% when the game starts.

Easy test to see how Sherman's elbow and Thomas' shoulder are; send out Gronk and LaFell to throw them out of the club on the Patriots first offensive play of the game.

I want the Patriots to bully the Seahawks. I want the Cincinnati Bengals effort from the Patriots. They brutalised Cinci and played like an angry bunch of mofos intent on destruction. They were passive against the Giants x 2. That must change.

He is not like Talib, who will take himself out of a championship game because of a hangnail. Sherman is a warrior, but peter king said after the game when he interviewed him he was in excruciating pain.

All true, but they'll play, most likely the entire game. High pain tolerance + drugs + Super Bowl = guys playing who probably shouldn't.

Ok, let them play, I would ask Gronk or Lafell to smash Sherman on the turf or even better, throw him out of the club if given the opportunity, even if that cost some offensive pass interference or something. I would do it in the first play of the game or afeter moved the ball a little, but definitely try to punch them in the mouth in the first drive of the game. Bully them until they cry.
