From the espn article,
On the first offensive play from scrimmage in the third quarter, following a kick return, referee Walt Anderson briefly stopped play to replace a football which could have been related to this issue.

No one bothered to ask Walt Anderson about this? Isn't that what real journalists do?

wait wait.....sports jounalism isnt real reporting. just clickable bait.

Take it for what it's worth but Schefter was saying that when the Colts intercepted the two balls in the game during the regular season they noticed that they were underinflated. Because of this, according to Schefter, they were on the lookout for it this time around and when Brady threw the pick in the first half they noticed the same thing.

If that's true, I don't understand why they wouldn't say something during the first game? Seems fishy to me...

Okay, so now it gets interesting, lol.

So, the Colts noted this in the earlier game...and
Deflating the balls can give a better grip in the rain and wind...and
The first game was played in a dome.

Why would you under-inflate a ball IN A DOME? Is the contention that Brady ALWAYS under-inflates the ball?

Sorry, that's lunacy. An under-inflated ball is harder to spiral, and heavier - you can't throw it as far.

Is it possible that Luck prefers the ball at 13.5 and Brady at 12.5, and that's what the Colts' players noticed, and because it's the Patriots they went all berserk about it? That is a slightly noticeable difference.

Lynch had a ball at 10psi tonight on the news, when he motioned to throw it, you could see the ball crease around his thumb. In other words, anywhere near that and the refs, who spot the damned ball on every down, would notice.

This is an Irsay idiotburger and nothing more. And the sad thing is that Pats fans - YET AGAIN - are being robbed of simply enjoying a thrashing.

I would say BBs interpretation of the taping rule was quite plausible. In fact, I would say, more than plausible, it was objectively more correct. The fact that he was punished in no way changes that fact. Goodell could punish BB for scratching his ass, which in no way makes scratching your ass retroactively illegal and cheating.

Goodell just underwent his own investigation for his habit of handing out specious and arbitrary punishments with dubious evidence. I would hardly consider earning the ire of the most distrusted commissioner in NFL history as evidence of BB's cheating. Goodell is a monumental ****-up who had never had a job on a football field or rule book. When he's not ****ing up the one thing he's supposed to do which is make good PR and keep people from questioning the integrity of the game, he dabbles in blowing every minor issue into a major scandal, screws up fines and suspensions, pisses off players nearly causing a lockout, and gets bailed out by Kraft.

BB is a paragon of NFL knowledge and history, he had over 30 years in the league coaching before Goodell ever cracked open a rule book and attempted to strain his brain cells into understanding the contents. Just because Roger thinks his ruling by memo was clear or legitimate does not make it so.

It's also ludicrous to say BB would run some sort of cheating cost benefit analysis. You think these guys at that level are in it for a few bucks? Winning is just a bottom line? A way to put money in the bank? You don't even believe that.

Yeah all that is nice, but no interpretation needed to be made dude. You were not allowed. They sent out memos. It was considered cheating. He did it anyway. Pretty cut and dry. BB doesn't get to interpret that rule how he wants, and do it anyway. If you believe that, so be it. I'm sure you will have no problem saying the same thing about this if this mess turns out to be true, that BB interpreted as he wished and it was legal.

Look, I agree that most of the mediots are mediots. However, in their defense (which pains me) how would they do that? NFL tightly restricts access to refs and pretty much they only time they can be asked questions is by a pool reporter after the game. And this wasn't thing at that point.

There's nothing quite like pissing Brady and Belichick off with bogus accusations:

The week after Spygate the Patriots blew out the Chargers 38-14.

Two weeks after Spygate the Patriots blew out the Buffalo Bills 38-7.

On the other hand, two days after the bogus Walkthroughgate, well, you know... :(

Just heard on NFL Network (with Ian Rappaport) That the league might be able to finish their investigation in a couple days or early next week at the latest.

Also, he mentioned if there was a fine it would be 25,000.

I'm curious how they really investigate this. If the ball is no longer under similar conditions, would it not potentially change as a result of temperature differences (though there's probably math they can apply to say what would have been the state of the football if there was a change).

My guess is NFL will interview the referee(s) that replace the ball(s), as a starting point. Maybe they ask Patriots to provide them will all of the game balls? In any case, hope this gets resolved soon..

My uncle is a Colts fan. He was totally convinced by what he was hearing in the media that the Patriots cheated in that game.

But I took some time to discuss it with him, showed him the facts, the fiction, etc and now he knows the media is just blowing up something that wasn't a big deal in the 1st place. Feel kinda good about that. :D lol

I don't understand why this is significant (other than for the haters, of course). It would've had no bearing on the game's outcome; would Blount otherwise have gained fewer yards? The fine for violation is $25k. This is a bunch of hooey from a bitter Indy writer.

Yep! That is Captain Avatar of the Argo if you were a Star Blazers fan and Captain Okita of the Yamato if you were a Space Battleship Yamato fan.

However, that specific image is taken from the Space Battleship Yamato: 2199 anime series, which is a totally awesome 2012-2014 remake of the 1974 Space Battleship Yamato "Quest For Iscandar" series.

(If any of you were Star Blazers fans back in the day, please PM me so I can tell you more about Yamato: 2199. I don't want to hijack this thread any further.)
I was a Star Blazers fan, but the only Anime I watch these days is porn.

Deflate gate is worse than spygate! Pats should forfeit the AFCCG! We're doomed! Fire BB and trade Brady!

P.S. - You can dislike this post too.

if we are fined for this crap, all that is going to happen over the next two weeks is the Pats cheated there way into the Superbowl.

Not the Colts did an horrible job and lost completely in the AFCCG

I hope someone buys the Red Sox and moves the team to the Arctic circle.

Someone posted the ball protocol rules somewhere in this thread and I'm pretty sure that any fine and discipline mentioned in the rules are only minimums. I'm 99% positive the rules use the magic phrase "not limited to".

They taped opponent's hand signals which was against the rules at that point, and BB knew it. Videotaping hand signals in the NFL was, at that point, has been ever since and continues to be considered cheating. Not sure what is there to explain.
Incorrect. Before you so authoritatively make such a statement, you really should make sure you have your facts straight. And you don't.

How could we be fined without there actually being real evidence the Patriots deflated balls?
It isn't going to happen. This is a nothing story and this is a nothing thread.
