Tampering charges filed for Woody Johnson and the Jets

Can to commish mandate the jets to stay out of the revis sweepstakes. That would be awesome too.

I tend to doubt it. I don't think that would withstand scrutiny by the legal system. Since, theoretically he would be telling Revis where he couldn't work as well as telling the Jets who they couldn't sign.

They shouldn't have had to, but the effin league office failed to do anything on their own.

Galeb, I'm pretty sure tampering investigations ALWAYS require a complaint from the wronged party. The league hasn't don't anything wrong here...yet. ;)

My guess is that the Jets will in fact be punished in the established fashion, with a swap of draft picks and a loss of an additional pick. I also expect that Woody's repeat-offender status will increase the penalty. But that repeat-offender bonus won't be awarded to the Patriots.

That means the Pats should only expect compensation along the lines of precedent, probably a swap of 5th-round picks unless the circumstances (franchise player, references to $$ Woody was willing to pay) are deemed egregious. But the Jets should also lose a higher pick for being repeated dumbasses.

Yes for the reasons I stated previously and below. I'd also suggest that because the 49ers contacted Rosenhaus, that weakened the Bears negotiating leverage as the market for Briggs was made clearer which ultimately help shape the 6/36m deal w/ $4m signing and $13m in guarantees.

With Revis we are talking A LOT more money. Stakes are higher here. Thus the compensation should go up.

Plus the Pats and Jets are in the same division. Which wasn't the case with the Bears and Niners. Goodell better whack them hard if he doesn't want to totally screw up his reputation (further) with the owners.

He has also overlooked previous violations by the Rats and given them minimal punishment; tripgate, illegal training sessions, previous suspicions of tampering. In fact, his original decree was to allow the Rats to investigate themselves for tripgate.

Did he allow the Pats the same courtesy regarding Spygate?

I think he absolutely needs to consider past precedent relations between the Pats and Rats, and he should come down hard on the rodents.

What is the highest swap of picks on record for this type of offense?

Or he could levy punishment and note that the punishment will be aggravated and increased to include a 1dt round pick if they were to sign Revis...It doesn't stop Revis from going to the Jets, just increases the price on gang green...

In Spygate the media led the charge against the Pats which likely influenced the Omissioner to be as heavy handed as he was.

Let's see how outraged the media is on this. Probably not very since it is a poor, pathetic, downtrodden team like the Rats.

I think the tampering charge is good for a number of reasons. Payback to those jets losers and should get us a mid round draft pick swap. Should make any decent head coach rethink choosing jets knowing they could lose a draft pick. Also, I would suspect pats don't file this now unless they have Revis locked up and his agent cooperating. Otherwise, you let jets dig a bigger hole for themselves.

I think his reputation with the owners (at least on the surface) is fine.

But if history is any indication, when determining punishment, penalties and remuneration, he weighs the circumstances and the situation. The fact that an OWNER with $75m in 2015 cap space openly expressed interest in a fmr all-pro player who is under contract is unprecedented.

Do they really have $75 million in cap to use?

Well at least they will have to use a bunch of that re-signing their own players.

Ooops! My bad! I forgot they don't have any players worth paying big bucks to.

Revis can help this by casually responding to a reporter's inquiry about his future (which is bound to happen after the AFC championship game) by saying something like, "Well you never know, we'll see, I know if it doesn't work out here that the Jets will have me back."

The only fair resolution is the Jets paying Revis to play for the Patriots and they absorb the Cap hit. As well as their first round pick.

Works for me.

I thought it was a Baltimore cap, but I admit I could be mistaken. If I am, my apologies.
No need to apologize. You are still a great poster. He is still a gigantic doosh-nozzle.

Patriots and Jets swap 1st round picks
Patriots stay at #6
Patriots draft Amari Cooper

Patriots and Jes swap 1st round picks

Any of those would work for me. Make it happen, Ommish.
