THIS is Why Reiss Almost Quit ESPN Last year

Luck has a very good career trajectory going. 1st 3 seasons, 33-15 reg season. 1st season- playoff game, 3rd season - 3 playoff wins, 2014 4700 yds, 1st in TDs with 40 etc. He has a 2.4 career INT rate which is between Brady and Favre so hes not wild with the ball as people think. However he is young and as as a QB that is a shortcoming.

I feel confident in saying that once Indy surrounds Luck with more talent on offense (legit running game) and acquires more talent on the defensive side of the ball, they will be a legit SB contender. With that said, they aren't there yet.

The story is really Colts GM Ryan Grigson. He's an outstanding football talent who knows how to assess talent, and is building a superb team. The Colts also do a nice job cap-wise. Grigson's biggest test comes with Luck's first non-rookie contract. The Colts will be the Patriots main rival for a long time.

Cowherd is wrong about the Patriots having a precipitous decline after Brady retires, in my opinion. As long as the Krafts and Belichick are in place, the Patriots will be plenty competitive.

Cowherd was being irresponsible. There is no proof that the Pats are done after 2014. Sure, Brady covers up a lot of holes and talent gaps on offense and defense but if Grapes comes in and has a 2008 Matt Cassel- like year BB has made even more improvements to the D, are they really out of it?

As much as I dislike the article, I suppose it's not that much of a stretch to feel that when Brady and Manning are ready to hang it up, Andrew Luck will be the guy in the AFC who takes over much of the success--at least speaking from the position of QB.

The problem with his thinking is that football is the ultimate team game, so although having a good QB gives you a decisive advantage, we've seen with P.Manning that it doesn't always equate to dominating the conference.

Another problem is that they're totally ignoring the idea that other teams might actually pick up QBs of the future along the way, even without tanking a season. They're also ignoring Joe Flacco.

On the topic of Reiss. I can't really have much admiration for a guy who "almost" quit. He knew what he was signing when he joined ESPN. When you sleep with dogs you're going to get fleas.

No one was asking for "sympathy".

Now that Peyton may be done the ESPN mediots look to have found their new QB to worship and campaign for.

After all, EVERYONE wants to see Andrew Luck win a ring.

I wonder if the Lucks relationship with the Mannings is a reason?

They said the same thing in 2011. lol
They say it every damn year, and every year they're wrong. They better hope Jimmy-G doesn't turn out to be the real deal, or they might never finally be right at all.

I don't think that's the reason. I think it's the same reason they wanted Peyton to win. He's really damn good. Those are just his expectations, and they believe it's just a matter of time. Most likely right. But dominate it so that no one else in the AFC has a chance? They're suffering from taking BB and the Pats success for granted. This kind of domination won't be repeated so easily, imo.

He almost quit, but then ESPN lightened up on what they were doing. He effected a meaningful change. Also, too: Easy to tell someone to quite their livlihood. I'm pretty sure Reiss doesn't have any significant number of fleas. He does an excellent job.

OP confuses me, Luck is progressing faster than almost any QB, new era rules or not, he will be the best when Brady retires, or I guess when Rodgers starts to age but once Brady is gone the AFC is his.

Don't see any issue in that

Define progressing because Russell Wilson has had more success......or are we talking fantasy football here?

The colts curve ends the moment Luck signs a new contract.

It's not about Cowherd's opinion (although subsequent posters wanted to dwell on that)

It's about the media business.

Cowherd didn't even write the piece. Look at the byline.

The piece is a corporate PR blurb about what Cowherd said.

Reiss went to the mattressess last year to defend his blog against someday becoming the landing pad of ESPN's corporate advertising masquerading as news and opinion.

Brady's been done, though, no?

Fantasy? Dude he is way better than Wilson, Wilson has a great top RB and the best defense in football, he makes smart choices and can run that is it.

Luck is a better QB and I don't even consider it close, when I said progress I mean in 3 years he has looked better than Peyton, Brady, Montana, Elway, Favre etc in their first 3 years. Maybe not Marino considering his monster 84 season but most QBs take a while to heat up, he is only going to get better, team too, they have no defense or run game.

Remember when the Saints beat us on a Monday night game, and theirs was the next big dynasty? How'd that work out?

You're talking about Wilson the way most of the country talked about Brady after the 2001 season

The problem is that Lucks value will be the biggest impediment to the colts getting the other players that Indy needs for ultimate success.....history is repeating in indy

IMO it is disrespectful to compare Wilson to Brady.

Brady is special, that progression isn't going to happen often, Wilson throwing 50 TDs and turning into a monster in 6 years isn't to be expected because Brady did it, rather stick with a safer pick in Luck.
