Rex Press Conference

Still think it would've been in his best interest to go somewhere with an established QB, but personnel-wise, he could do a lot worse than Buffalo.

Under other circumstances, a Rex Ryan team would have made a perfect landing spot for Peyton Manning: he would have absolutely total autonomy over the offense, since Rex obviously wouldn't be forcing a game plan on him. (Or even if he tried, I can't imagine Manning would buy into "ground and pound" for more than a picosecond.)

However, lucky for us, Buffalo is the worst possible spot for Manning to play. His arm would freeze and rust off before Thanksgiving.

Right now, he hasn't set himself up to succeed. Instead he's set himself up to not fail. The defensive personnel will play to his strengths, allowing him to field a decent team in Buffalo. Not a champion, but a respectable 9-7 or 10-6 type of team. If he went somewhere with an established offense but weaker defensive players, he'd probably win more and have a better shot at a ring, but he wouldn't look like a defensive "genius".

I live in western Ny and I get mixed responses from all the Bills fans around here. The ones who really know football didnt want him.

Hes got no Qb, they cant land top notch FA's cause its Buffalo which sucks. His defensive talent is for Schwartz's scheme which is read and react vs Rex attacking style. Going to be a hot mess. And the GM still is lousy see overpaying for Sammy Watikins and drafting EJ Emanuel.

Actually when this defense deteriorates, people will grow tired of him telling them he is a good defensive coach but not getting good results. He is walking in to expectations he will not meet.

And they have no first round pick.

Don't worry about no QB for the Bills. A Mark Sanchez trade is in the works.

I still feel the perception will be that he's a good defensive coach, because his defense will LOOK the part. It looks aggressive, it looks swarming, it LOOKS effective (even when it's not).

Mario Williams was certainly a top FA, and Buffalo landed him.

Ryan inherited a very talented team and helped to drive it into a horrible team. He failed to develop two QBs too.

Ryan's first two years were better, but he had more talent to work with out of the gate. And let's face it. His first year was a more luck than anything else since they backed into the playoffs with their last two games as a gift facing teams resting players for the playoffs. His second year was legit though.

the original point was ryan's comment about loyalty

that said, all the talent on the bills defense was there before marrone showed up....I'd dare to say that the improvement of the defense had more to do with DC jim schwartz than marrone....it's not the offense that made any kind of difference

@CJSPILLER: Rex just dropped the mic when he got done speaking at the podium I can feel his energy just by watching this press conference

He's got the players hooked already :D

I want what they're smoking.

He is about the only exception I can think of and they over paid by alot to make it happen.

Remedy ...... listen to Mike Schopp and Bulldog on GR.

The Bulldog is one of Rex's biggest admirers.

I was thinking of him when I wrote that.

I don't know why he's even called the Bulldog. He's pretty reasonable and not very arrogant. He seems like a level-headed person.

Schopp however is not really a sports fan, and I can't understand how he got the gig.

I'm pretty sure he'd prefer to watch a new episode of Seinfeld over the Super Bowl.

God Damn it. I thought we were finally free of this blowhard.

I'm still surprised he took this job instead of taking a year off and waiting for a better opportunity. He's going to fail in Buffalo, and then his stock/status will be completely down the drain.
He just got paid 30 mil dollars.. I don't think his stock can get much higher.
