John Fox is out in Denver

Say what you want about John Fox (not that you needed my permission), but he was always in a pretty tough spot, coaching wise. When the team burned everyone it was Manning who got the credit, and when the team crashed it was Fox and Del Rio that took the blame. That's not to defend the job that he did, but public perception was always going to give him the short end of the stick, no matter what happened. Every genius move was Manning's, and every boneheaded one was Fox's.

All that being said, I honestly have no clue what Fox could have done to save Denver from that game on Sunday. It was clear that his high-paid superstars were disappointing him all over the field. Talib was hanging on for dear life in coverage, Miller and Ware were absolute no shows on the pash rush, and there's really not much else to say about Manning's woeful inability to throw beyond ten yards after the first series. There's no scheme to fix all of that. And when Manning's offense got extremely predictable, what was Fox to do? Denver built the team by rolling in the red carpet for Manning and hiring the staff and players necessary to re-create his system from the Colts. What was he going to do, force Peyton Manning to adapt his play when they built the team around him? And was that even possible when Manning couldn't throw anymore? Pick routes and underneath stuff work when the defense has to respect the long ball. No one has had to respect the long-ball against the Broncos for weeks now.

I look at Denver, I recognize what they accomplished, and I take stock of what they didn't. It makes me appreciate all the more that we have a team that can be multiple. It won't guarantee a Super Bowl, but it can give me great confidence that they always have a chance in a game, against any opponent.

oh, i think manning retires now. lol

fox is a good coach. the guy won a division and a playoff game with tim tebow at QB.
Speculation is that Manning might pick yet another team to try and get a cushy ride to the SB. Arizona has been mentioned, although I thought they were pretty tied to Palmer. Personally, I think Rex should give him a call.

I just don't understand firing coaches that clearly give their team a chance to win and make it to the playoffs. Schottenheimer fired after going 14-2, Harbaugh this year, Fox, etc. But guys like Marvin Lewis who haven't won a playoff game just stick around.

With the exception of Marvin Lewis who needs to go just for the sake of change, coaches that win at least 10 games in the regular season should keep their job or at least be given some leeway if they slightly falter the following year.
Schottenheimer was fired because he was given chance after chance with good teams, and they invariably **** the bed. Harbaugh was fired because he's an insufferable douche. It was either than, or there was going to be a workplace murder.

Marvin Lewis is inexplicable. Although really, he's just Schottenheimer light.

There is no way Manning is going to BB's division in a cold-weather out-door stadium.

You aren't gonna let that one go, are you? :p

What's funny about it is that Manning's epic collapse is exactly the reason you WOULD go all in. You want to get the ring before that happens. So Shmessy is essentially mocking something that's proven to be the smart strategy, used a year too late.

It makes Shmessy look worse every time he posts it.

Speaking of changes:

I'd guess that means Manning is done in Denver then. Cue the phone calls from Rex.

Watching Manning play in Buffalo for 8 games a year would be must see TV. His noodle arm would have no chance with the wind and freezing temps.

Now I'm reading that assistants haven't been fired, there's a possibility they might be retained or not be the new headcoach, so they've been told they're free to look for other jobs if they wish.

Why would Manning ever retire?????

He still has Wes Welker whom the Patriots stupidly let get away last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

d%#*!@t, why do we have to be stuck with Edelman? He's a poor man's Welker and all he did was get hurt his first 4 years in the league!

Oh, the "All-In, Win Now" crowd must be stunned.

Names.. I demand names!!!

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Broncos want to interview Seahawks DC Dan Quinn for their head-coaching vacancy.

The Broncos might be a little late to the party, but Quinn's team is still alive in the playoffs and remains free game for all the clubs looking for a new head coach. All Quinn would have to do in his Denver interview is pop in the game tape from last year's Super Bowl when his Seahawks defense dominated the Peyton Manning-led Broncos from start to finish. Quinn will get any job he wants.

Why is every team after Dan Quinn? Is he that good?

NEW INFO: Entire Broncos coaching staff let go. Not just John Fox. All assistants gone according to several players.

John Elway is a moron.

We might have a shot at Demaryious, McDaniels is not going to that dumpster fire.
If Ryan was available I'm sure Rexy would of been the pick.

I like Quinn over John Fox.
So the coaching searches are coming in focus now.

Rex Ryan in Buff
I still think Doug Marrone in NYJ
Adam Gase to the niners
Jack Del Rio to the Oakland Raiders
Todd Bowles to the Bears
Teryl Austin to the Falcons
Unless Jason Garrett comes available but he is dedicated to Dallas.

John Elway is a moron.

I think Elway believes he has 1 more year of Peyton, and he will do whatever is necessary to get him into a SB and win.

Would be nice, but I highly doubt we'd do it. Fitzgerald seems more likely (cheaper) and already got his big payday years ago
