One coverage I have noticed recently is how the Patriots line up vs Empty or on third and longs the Pats tend to bring in Duron Harmon and Tavon Wilson, while moving McCourty down. This allows the Pats to double two WRs while leaving Revis and Devin McCourty in favorable matchups. I first saw this was vs The Jets on third down, The Jets had 3 WRs (Harvin, Kerley and Decker), 1 TE(Jeff Cumberland) and one RB(Powell) or 11 Personnel. The Pats put Revis on Harvin, McCourty on Cumberland and Collins on Powell. They doubled Kerley with Ryan and Tavon Wilson. They matched Browner on Decker and Shaded Harmon over to Decker. This is shown below.

Fast Forward to the divisional game on the Flacco INT. The Patriots played 7 DBs to combat play vs the Ravens 5 WRs. The Pats played Revis on Steve Smith, McCourty on Kamar Aiken and Arrington on Marlon Brown. The Pats doubled Owen Daniels with Pat Chung and Tavon Wilson. They put Logan Ryan on Torrey Smith and shaded Harmon over Smith. The Ravens sent Torrey Smith deep and Logan Ryan played a trail position that gave Flacco the impression that Smith woild be open, But Flacco didnt see Harmon, which lead to the INT.

Flacco actually claims that he did see Harmon. According to his post game interview, he knew the patriots tend to move a safety over to a side where they think the ball is going, but he threw it up anyway trying to take advantage of Logan Ryan.

Watch out some people might disagree on this and say Ryan got beat and Flacco screwed up on the throw by not looking Harmon off and then threw it bad.

I was wondering about Ryan , he was with Smith and then he let him go...all the time looking at the ball, then looking at Harmon and releasing smith to Harmon. Almost looked like a setup

I've watched that replay a good 15 times and I totally subscribe to the thinking that Ryan baited Flacco into throwing it. Ravens made a living doing that w/ Ed Reed.

I do think Flacco saw him but made a bad throw and was expecting Smith to go up and get it- which he didn't. Seems like he gave up on it too soon..

Someone tweet (I will too) Bedard and see if he agrees and will bring it up tomorrow on felger and mazz because the few minutes I heard them today they are both adamant that this was flacco screwing up and not him being baited into it.

Looks like Big Nickel(saftey usually defends Y WR in big nickle). with a trio of safeties. I may be wrong, but this is still good stuff.

If you look at the replay, Collins got shoved to the ground right in front of Flacco. Because of that, Flacco shuffled backwards a smidge and did not step into the throw. Did it force him to put more air under it b/c he was off-balance and thus having the ball drift to the inside a little? Not sure...
