He really didn't have to time it. He could have stopped, he was more than a yard off the ball when it was snapped.

The second one missed but they got another try at it. Eventually, after three tries, CAR got the FG before half.

Sort of the kicker missed trying to kick it around him. The ball never touched him though. Problem is he then ran into the kicker.

I didn't realize this until after watching some clips but it was actually Collins' pressure which forced Flacco's off balance throw on the game winning pick.
