Peyton Manning had a torn right quad

So he hurt his team's chances by playing with an injury. Selfish.
Agree 100%, they probably had a better chance of competing with Osweiller (or whatever his name is).

@VicLombardi: Different agendas coming to light now. Again, tests revealed a STRAINED quad. Not a tear.

@VicLombardi: There was not a complete tear. No severance of muscle. To characterize it as a tear, according to my sources, is false. There's a difference.

Wow, Manning had strain and Talib had to actually play with an undisclosed bruise. No wonder they got smoked.

Reports say the quad tear extended all the way into the scrotum and that many of the other Broncos were experiencing sympathy pain symptoms.

Well, that's gotta be a real pain in the ass.

So Manning was lying last night after the game when he said that wasn't an issue, and that his thigh was fine?

"I've had that one thigh injury that I had in that San Diego game that's kind of hung around. I felt like I've tried to manage it. I felt like I could manage it. I completed some passes and won some games with it. So it kind of hung around, just that one thigh. But there was nothing more to it than that. It felt good coming into the game today."

Everyone knew he was injured, so this isn't just an excuse. We've seen things play out the same way with Brady. The question was, and still is, the severity.

I'm betting he plays 1 more season but announces that it will be his last. Just so he can have the ball-washing ceremonies before every game, almost like Jeter and Rivera got for the Yankees recently.

no one even come to me and say manning is better then brady or i will have to punch you :D

Its not just the ducks, its the bad decisions he makes. A QB with a great football IQ but his decision making was awful. Its a combination of mental and physicial decline.

I disagree, I think his brain is simply insisting he do things his arm can't do anymore. Now however his brain is out of excuses because his arm clearly told it to retire on Sunday.

The question for John Elway is the value that Manning represents in 2015. If they keep him on, Manning will count $21.5 million against the Broncos cap. If they release him, the dead money is only $5 million. Most of his $58 million guaranteed money from the 2012 contract has already been paid out. They got three years, three playoff appearances and one trip to the Super Bowl out of Manning.

Manning isn't going to be less injury-prone at 39 than he was this year. The Broncos have big decisions to make about what direction they are heading.

On the assumption that Manning decides to return (not a certainty by any means), Elway would have to decide whether Peyton Manning at 90% for half the season and 60% for the rest of the season is still better than any alternative at 100% for a whole season. My guess is that he would still go with Manning for the one year left on his contract, but with diminished expectations.

But, I don't think he's going to have to make that decision. I think, as I posted out here a couple of months ago, that Manning will retire at the end of this season.

If Manning should decide he wants to return and play the final year of his "year to year" contract and if he makes that known to the public, it would be very difficult for Elway to do anything but smile and say, "Welcome back." Remember, the Mannings have a history of playing hardball in the media (see his little brother) and that's a lot of money to leave on the table if he decides to gut it out for one more year.

This makes sense. You had to think injury was the reason for such a drastic drop in his velocity at the end of the season. My guess is he will wait until he's healthy and then see if he has enough zip in his fastball to make it worth his time to come back.

He'll have to be fairly quick about it because by early March, Elway will have to make some very expensive decisions to either give this team another year to go all in, or tear it down and rebuild. It won't make a lot of sense to spend top dollar on the likes of Thomas and Thomas if you don't have a QB to get them the ball.

In one sense I respect that they kept it a secret until now. I hate what I call the McNair effect. If you remember Steve McNair was an excellent and very tough QB for the Titans when they were good, but I hated the constant whine about how he was always overcoming this injury or that one. In the meantime Brady suffered in silence, and it was only after the season that we found out he was playing with a broken rib, or bad hand or ankle. F the injury report. I'd never be honest about it when it came to my QB.

It's a bit touchy. The Broncos will surely want to negotiate down that number. The question PM needs to ask himself is if this is something he is willing to do which is to take a pay cut. When it comes to posterity's sake, he could be viewed as someone not willing to chase the almighty dollar every single time.

There are guys out there who are 1st ballot HoF w/ 3X as many Super Bowl rings as PM who are comfortable enough with themselves and their careers that view winning as more important than scrounging for every last nickle.

Well, it's (kind of) a part of making bad decisions, trying to do things you are not able to do. If i were to throw ducks like manning does, i'd try to keep myself in the bounds of 10-15 yards per pass and not more, purely because throwing more is over my head. Not doing that is considered (IMO, at least) bad decision making.

Either way, he is absolutely forcing himself and it's bad.

@AdamSchefter: Broncos QB Peyton Manning played Sunday’s Divisional Playoff loss and the past month of the season with a torn right labia, per two sources.

@AdamSchefter: Peyton Manning initially tore his right labia Dec. 14 in win over Chargers, per sources. MRI back in Denver confirmed tear.

All aboard the excuse train

There, I fixed that for you. :D

Whenever a report of Brady's injuries has come out on this board in the past, everyone here says "wow, he played through an injury. wow, he didn't complain about it at all during the season."

The same happens for manning and people start calling ********.

Hard to take some of your opinions seriously.

I think Manning will take a big pay cut to play another season. I won't be surprised if he takes half with Super Bowl incentives. I dont think Elway will keep him unless he takes the big cut but I do think Elway wants to give it one more try, the question is whether he believes Manning's poor play was because of the thigh or if he believes as I do that his arm is pretty much gone, if he believes it's gone then I think he advised b him n to retire and Manning takes the advice.

Should be interesting to see how it plays out?

I'm sure if the Broncos don't want him he will go to Houston. Then he could say he played with Harrison, Edgerrin James, Wayne,D Clark, Garçon, D Thomas,Julius Thomas,E Sanders, Wes Welker+all the other short receivers he sent to early retirement. Andre Johnson, Deandre Hopkins and Arian Foster would be 3 more to add to the list of weapons he has had.

Brady had done more with less.
