We may have seen the last of Manning vs. Brady games

I think your first statement has everything to do with the second. The receivers were obviously down on their QB. Sanders and D. Thomas both had terrible body language during the game. Sanders looked like he wanted to scream at Manning every time Manning misfired to him. They knew the teams success rode on their QB. They knew he was done.

Yes, I am sure they did. There were several passes that just had no chance at all and the receivers looks frustrated the whole game. But even then it was like they sort of expected it. Very interesting to watch. I can remember a time not so long ago when he would hit on each and every one of those passes and it would just drive you crazy. But tonight he had nothing. I hate to say it was sad to watch because I wanted him to lose just out of habit at this point but it was kind of sad.

We usually come out rather well post-bye in the regular season but the playoffs is a tougher, different animal. It does seem like it causes a lot of rust issues.

I love how the announcers were talking about how great and rested Manning looked in the pre game warmups. I guess he gave the warmup everything he had because he never looked comfortable tonight. Ever.

If Brady was in Manning shoes (Assuming he isn't injured) I would hope he would retire. I will never like Manning but he will go down as one of the greatest of all time. There is nothing worse than watching a once great player try to play when they have nothing left in the tank.
He doesn't wanna be Brett Favre back in 2010.

Broncos board noting that Manning went in the tank as soon as the NFL started testing for HGH. Just passing it on

If his big tailoff this year was due to an undisclosed injury that has been kept under tighter lids than Fort Knox, then maybe the offseason will give him one more chance with one more year. If John Fox is gone, then it would make sense with another team.

Something even more crazy just occurred to me: How about Buffalo? Hey, they went for Rex and would they even try to go for a bigger splash with Manning?

Probably won't happen that way, but it would sure be one last crazy fun hurrah, that's for sure.

My guess right now is he'll be back for one more run, but with whom I don't know...

Ravens, Colts and Bills (if they can get a decent QB)

Near unanimous sentiment over in Broncos land that they want Manning to go. Sad thing is not one of them even seems thankful. They are all saying what a waste of 3 years it was (it wasn't) and how they wish they stuck the course.

Do they realize they went from the worst QB in the league to a top 3 one (including one legendary season)? Sad to see such animosity within the fan base.

On another note, I do think he's done. He has always said, much like Tommy that he will retire once he does more harm than good to his team and that point has arrived. If so, thanks Peyton for some good (and not so good) memories. Seeing him play for the first time at the 2003 AFCCG remains to this day one of my favorite football memories (he couldn't say the same) but the rivalry brought that Larry-Magic feel to the NFL.

Manning sounded like he is retiring in the post-game press conference. He admitted that he hasn't been worth a damn in the second half of the season.

Manning wasn't right physically the entire last month of the season and the postseason. He was playing hurt. Playing badly, but playing hurt. I can't believe Broncos fans want to begin the Brock Osweiler era. Let's give them a few weeks to think about it.

Manning needs to figure out if he can get right physically and also if he can realistically make it through a complete season intact. If he thinks so and is willing to put in the work, then why not give it a go?

An intriguing possibility would be to bring back Jay Cutler, as I think Chicago is looking to trade him and his contract. This is a team that needs a veteran as it can't wait 3 years for a rookie to develop without committing to a rebuild. I don't see too many other veteran QB options via trade or free agency.

If Peyton gets released and still wants to play... where? Chicago? Washington (pull plug on RG3)? St. Louis (Greatest Show on Turf 2). I still think Peyton wants to own more QB statistical records. Favre still has a few like total passing yards. I also think if he can find a way to get paid $20 million that is also motivating. Walking away from the game can't be easy and is probably why all-time great players hang on.

Would he have had the success he had, year in and year out, if he was playing in a division that actually had some sort of competition for him throughout most of his career? Playing against Tennessee, Jacksonville and Houston, year in and year out, must have been a great way to spend most of the 2000s.

He'll get cut, end up on the jets...or with the Bills.

When I say "all-time great players", I refer to a category that probably includes a few dozen worthies. Unitas, Bradshaw, Staubach, Montana, Aikman, Elway, Young, Favre, ...

I am not trying to label GOAT (Greatest of All Time), which is a shorter list, and not one where Manning would be top of the list in my opinion.

Nah, I don't think Manning hangs it up. He probably should, but I don't think he will. He'll play next season and, barring an injury to either guy before the matchup, we'll see another one (and maybe that one will be the last one).

Guess I'm in the minority here. I'm tired of watching Brady vs. Manning. Been tired of it since 2006, so I can't wait 'til he finally retires. One less obstacle to worry about.

It is sad to see one of the Great Ones fizzle out. I always respected Manning, but I never thought the prospect of losing such a rival would feel so sad. It really does feel like the end of an era.

Respect, but I think that rivalry was so great for the sport and, therefore, I always welcomed it. I think there will be a huge void left when those guys are gone. Who's next? Russell and Kap? Rodgers and Newton? Romo and RGIII? I just look around the league and no rivalry is as intriguing or entertaining, IMHO. Manning v Brady, Brady v Manning . . . that was prime time. It was exciting. Too bad it may be no more with the way Manning is fizzling so quickly. Funny how it was Brady declining . . . *rolls eyes*

Funny stuff. The reality is that Manning isn't going to a cold weather team in BBs division... especially one as effed up as the Jets.

So you are saying that joining Rexy at Buffalo's probably a non-starter? :)

I think the whole injury thing may have been a smoke screen to make the Colts think Manning's problems were just injury related and he is back to 100%. Manning was exposed in the Patriots game and even more exposed in the Rams' game. He was injured in the Dolphins game several weeks later.

I am not buying his problems this season were injury related.
