I think the Pats used up all their tricks

If that is how far the *****ers and moaners have to dig to find something to ***** and moan about, then I'll call that a win.

That's BobDigital. Losers always find the negative things in everything. I mean come on, how could they have anymore "tricks" if they have to come up with them this late in the season LOL. As if those are the only two plays they have been working on....

Complete imbecile.

Also, if Gronks eligible one play and Vereen or Julian another, what defensive personnel should you have out there? They require different specialized defenders... this is more interestin that a one-time trick.

You can't toggle eligibility play-to-play. Once a normally-eligible reports in as ineligible or a normally-ineligible reports in as eligible they remain in their new states until they come out for at least a play or there is a stoppage in play (timeout, penalty, end of quarter, etc.). So in yesterday's game, Vereen was stuck as ineligible until he came out of the game or (for example) Harbaugh got penalized :)

Belichick has not tipped his hand. The balanced line with 5 offensive linemen is the Pledge-an ordinary object not intended to deceive. The play run yesterday was merely the Turn-we saw what appeared to be an ordinary formation become extraordinary, with the LT catching a pass down the field. Now you're looking for the secret... But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why in the final act, Bill will perform the hardest part- the Prestige. Teams will cease covering the ineligible receiver on the right, thinking "We've found the secret Bill, and now we know what to do.", and at that very moment you will find the ball in his hands.

They were behind and desperately trying everything to win that game.

I'm a big Fan of yours, Brother Bob, but you're mistaken.

The Patriots may win, and the Patriots may lose.

But these Patriots simply don't do "desperate."

Not on Mad Bill's Watch.

I actually think the trick plays enhance the rest of our offense.

This offense finished 4th in the NFL in points this season. We don't need to rely on the trick plays or gadget plays to score enough points to win. But just because we've shown it once doesn't negate our ability to use the exact same play. In fact, we could even use that knowledge to our advantage to develop a counter play (say fake the bubble screen with Edelman running behind the LOS), but let Brady pump fake and go elsewhere or have Vereen take a handoff and go in the other direction. Obviously I'm not an OC, but if a team is only watching Jules as their key to that play, you can use it to your advantage.

And now that teams have seen Edelman throw a pass, will they be less aggressive when attacking him on a bubble screen or jet sweep? Will it give him more room if we use him in a reverse? Whether we use it again or not, or a similar play is in the book somewhere, it will affect how defenses play us.

The Steelers had lots of gadget plays they used to run with Randal-El and even when they didn't, they occupied the opposition's time to prepare for them. No doubt the Colts and Broncos will spend a few hours preparing for the 4-OL package. Even if we don't use it at all, it's impacted their preparations.

You don't need to come up with something new every single time to win the game. Preparation and execution matter more, and at the very least, we've given opponents a lot more to prepare for.

Even if they did, would you rather they be saving them up for next season right now? Because without those wrinkles we probably lose that game.

Tricks? I don't know but this was a very emotional game. They need to put those emotions away and move on.

I think BobDigital is a DOUCHE BAG and a troll!! How many likes do I get for that!!!!

This is not saying now the Patriots can't win the next 2 games cause i think they can.

However ask yourself how many tricks can the Patriots have left. They were behind and desperately trying everything to win that game. Once you break out the 4 OL formation I would guess you have probably used everything you have.

You can argue they have something left but that is arguing you felt during the game being behind 14 two times they felt they had the opportunity to save something. I do not think they felt that way at all.

I think the OP was right though, Belichick was almost certainly down to his last two trick plays before the game and now he is out. No more trick plays for the Patriots, ever, coach is out of them.
Ohs noes!!! Say it isn't so.

They could have Edelman run the read option

What "tricks" would you have said they had before that game? You, like John Harbaugh, probably assumed you had seen it all. But you hadn't. So it stands to reason you wouldn't be able to guess at anything else they might be working on.
Exactly what I was going to say. Although, I've been waiting for the Edelpass for 5 years.

BB is never out of tricks. He is going to run a play with just a center on the line, everyone else will be receivers

I can't recall the Patriots ever winning a game in the Belichick era without successfully executing at least three trick plays in a game. Too bad they ran out.

Well well well, look who's here. It's the head cheerleader for the Belichick Sucks sorority house. Long time no see, months in fact.

Where have you been, we heard JI closed, which would make you homeless.

You need a dollar?

Some warm clothes?

A kitten?

Regardless, the Pats don't go to the trick plays unless they are desperate. Being down 14 twice in a game counts as desperate.

In the past, people have criticized the Pats for NOT saving their trick plays for tight situations. E.g., I think they had the game well in hand when Vinateri threw his TD pass. I'm not as sure about the Randy Moss flea flicker, but I don't think it was an emergency call either. And the Kevin Faulk direct snap was just routine; when it was used in the Super Bowl, a lot of us had started expecting it as soon as we did the math to decide the Pats would likely try a 2-point conversion.
