Buffalo Bills hire Rex Ryan as head coach

Bills & Jets...

...so if we get your coach, and you get our coach.....we're going to solve all our problems and finally beat the Pats...

Can Mark Sanchez be far behind?

I thought Marrone was making some progress. Lack of a quality QB was not his fault.

How about we wait a couple of years before determining something that happened on draft day "terrible". Watkins might end up the best WR in the game and a shoe-in for the HOF.

It's not the result I'm critical of, it's the basic approach to the draft: #9 overall pick + a first and fourth for a WR in a draft that's overflowing with WR talent. That's really bad use of resources, IMO.

Let's get the band back together!!

Honestly, given their available options at QB Sanchez is a reasonable choice.

Their defense is going to be a pain to play against. But, EJ Manuel??

The thing I'm scratching my head about is that they are saying they are keeping gym shorts as DC, which takes away any advantages rex brings.

Maybe ot but Falcons are zero'd in on Bowles and Quinn according to reports.
Niners are lining up second inteeview and are locked in on Bowles . Maybe we get to keep the band together after all.
On a side note would love to bring Jim Schwartz in on the staff in some capacity.
The front office moves and building a coaching staff/team my favorite part of football.
Call me a nerd.

We got a full offseason to worry (?) about what Rex can do with the Bills. It will be an interesting offseason to watch.. curious what their plan at QB is..
Sanchez is a free agent....

I've seen what Ryan could do with a top defense in the past. It's moronic for people to dismiss that as if it doesn't matter. Brady's not getting any younger, and I'd rather not have one of the guy's who's been successful at putting him on the turf planning against him twice a year, especially if they retain Schwartz, as expected.

It matters, but it'd matter a hell of a lot more if the Bills got someone who was a great head coach, instead of a great DC trying but failing to be a good head coach.

Because with or without Rex the Bills defense was already really good. I'd argue it was the best in the league by the end of the year.

Adding Rex doesn't change much. The Bills already had a top DC in Schwartz who was doing great things. They however have one of the worst offenses in the league. Adding a coach who has proven time and time again he is inept on offense and completely one dimensional as a coach is dumb.

Just plain dumb. Bills hired the guy for the headlines rather than making an actual football decision.

Agree.

Can Mark Sanchez be far behind?

Hope so. That man is an interception machine! It'd be great to have Sanchez in Buffalo and Gee No in NYC!

Since Buff beat us once what is the chance if Josh leaves that Bill calls Marone to be a offensive coach?

No. He's not that good a coach and Buffalo beat us only because we rested guys.

Peter King claims Josh turned down the Falcons don't know if its for the Niners job or to stay here but claims they are now locked in on Bowles.

he has no QB...will be just like the jets

Rex is the last guy I wanted to see take control of that talented Bills defense. Hopefully Revis doesn't follow him there. If so, Buffalo might not even need to field a QB to win most games.

Bob, I think you and DI both are taking Rex's perceived defensive skills too far. Even if you are correct in your assessment of them, there is a lot more to being a HC than just defensive acumen. Its about leadership, accountability staff building, roster building, creating a system, and other management skills that Rex never showed in his 6 years with the Jets.

I'd never say he's a bad coach, or that he doesn't have several positive traits you;d love to have in a HC. Its just that he's missing several aspect of the job that I would deem critical. Even worse, I don't see the humility to recognize where he failed in NJ or any commitment to improve on them the 2nd time around

IMHO he belongs one of 3 places, I think he'd be excellent on TV. Of course he'd be a fine DC. Or if he was so inclined, I'd give him another shot if I felt he had recognized his flaws and was willing to confront them and learn from his past mistakes. He COULD be a fine HC, but I don't believe he recognizes he has any issues. If I'm wrong it will show in Buffalo, since they have good roster minus a QB

Same sh^t different toilet.

Bills expected to hire former 49ers OC Greg Roman as new OC to go along with Rex Ryan, per sources. The two worked together in Baltimore.

Ryan and Schwartz working the defense

Yeah, Brady's going to be dealing with that, and Roman's going to be working the offense.

I assume the same people who expected the Patriots to blow out the Ravens will be saying that this is good thing.

Yeah, he NEVER had a QB, but the Jets were good when they had talent on defense and at the offensive skill positions, which.....is exactly what the Bills have! EJ Manuel is no worse than the rookie Mark Sanchez, and they will obviously add a veteran, who could be far better than either.
