2015 Draft Prospect Thread

Have any of you guys looked into Vince Mayle out of Washington state? Another BIG bodied WR with an interesting back story.
He is a basketball player converted to a football player via a California Community college. He's done a lot to improve his game over the last two years, I mean a lot!
It's also really hard to ignore his numbers this year 106 passes for 1,483 yards with nine touchdowns.
If he slips into the 4+ rounds, he may be worth consideration. Seeing how far he's come in such a short period time, it gives me the impression that he could still has a lot of room to grow. Two years in Washington state he's almost become 2x as good of a player.

Ahhh, nothing like some good old fashion draft talk on a Friday night. I just posted a new thread with my scouting report on Brandon Scherff if anyone is interested. I am especially interested for Grid to give it a look since I know he has done his own report.
I really like Scherff, However I'm almost willing to bet my life savings he won't be there when were up to pick :(

Welcome to the Board Hawaiian,
You will soon learn that there are a lot of good people with great insight on this draft board.

Yes, Im quickly starting to see that. Im stoked! No more day dreaming in my head. Out here in Hawaii, Im like one of 10 pats fans on the entire island. Im forced to be surrounded by Seattle, 49, and raiders fan. Its like being in prison

I've heard of him. Think I read he lost a lot of weight and really improved.

The pats offense is so tricky it seems it's hit or miss with wrs. Even nfl veterans can't pick it up sometimes.

There are so many talented athletic wrs at the college level it's hard to figure out who will suceed.

Hawaii like a prison. Might have a hard time getting people to relat ed to that. Especially in this weather.

Although I've heard it's expensive to live there.

Oregon OL coach Steve Greatwood compares Jake Fisher to former Oregon OL (and 2 time pro bowl LG) Kyle Long:
"Jake emulates Kyle in a lot of ways, especially when it comes to a tough attitude. Jake's been in the system a bit longer, so I think he's a bit more polished than Kyle was as far as fundamentals," Greatwood said. "Jake is still growing as a player, too. He's a true senior and didn't have that redshirt year. He's athletic and could carry a lot more weight, maybe 20 pounds, and not lose anything."

Never heard of this guy, but from the tape I kinda like him. I want to see his overall tape not just highlights, but I'd take him late.

Doubt he'll be available late. 4th round seems to be his floor right now.

Nice writeup on Virginia DE/OLB Max Valles:

http://www.roanoke.com/sports/colle...cle_68bdf7fc-f025-5f57-85ea-39edf28dc82a.html

Values played WR, DE and safety in high school, played TE and DE at Fork Union Military Academy, and plays LB and DE for Virginia. He's long and explosive, and he moves well in space. He had 9 sacks and 12.5 TFL plus 3 forced fumbles and 8 passes defended this season (and a pick 6). His combination of explosiveness and movement in space is Collinsesque. He could be an OLB, but I think he could also take over Ninkovich's LDE role opposite Chandler Jones.

So Storks injury, coupled with Rexy signing with a talent filled bills defense, pretty much locks Erving in as the Pat's first pick, right? I mean may as well start drawing up the contract. I hope.

A break down of Valles' play. Ignore the video on the same page.

Great find. Thanks, Manx.

I would mention a couple of things to consider in evaluating Valles:

1. He is a true sophomore and only 19.

2. He hasn't really played a clearly defined defensive position. He was played WR, TE and S in high school, TE and DE at Fork Union Military Academy, and DE/OLB the past 2 years. There's plenty of time to work on some of his technique, which should easily improve with good coaching. He seems to be a hard worker and willing to do whatever the coaching staff asks.

3. He has 2 very valuable skills right now: the ability to clog the passing lanes, and the ability to play in space. He's also very explosive. I was interested that the article mentioned a Collins comparison. I think Valles has that kind of versatility and ability. I'd let him grow into his frame a bit and put him on the line, but potentially do a lot of switching up with him and Collins if he grows into the role. He could be a beast.

Right now I'm thinking 2nd round, as he is a bit raw, and I hope that keeps his draft stock down. But he's probably my favorite defensive player in the draft in terms of "potential".

I doubt Erving's future is as an NFL center, though his versatility is a plus. And I'd like to know how severe Stork's injury is before jumping on that boat again. Erving as a tackle/guard with center versatility is fine, though.

Which is why I don't think we'll draft him. He'd be a virtual red shirt acclimatising to our defence I suspect.

For now, and it's still very early in the eval process on these two players, I prefer Harold over Valles but that's purely as a pass rusher. I do need to see more of both however.

One interesting thought though is what, if anything, the declaration of Valles and Harold means for Vic Beasley. Do you take Beasley in the top 10 of the first if you can get Valles/Harold at the top of the second?

You may well be correct. I think Valles is special enough that he'll get consideration. A lot depends on whether Ayers is re-signed. If he is, then the Pats have a good rotation with Jones-Ninkovich-Ayers, and can afford to let Valles develop. I think his versatility at DE and LB and his Collinsesque upside will appeal to BB.

I suspect that depends on whether BB thinks he'll fill out. I know he's similarly sized to Buchanan but he was a 7th round value pick. Valles and Harold look too slight for a BB pick as things stand. Of course that observation doesn't preclude BB moving in a different direction. I can certainly see him looking for a Bruce Irvin type that can play OLB in a 3-4, SLB in a base 4-3 and RDE in sub. Each to their own binky but I'd rather Hodges over Valles/Harold for that role.

I'm fine with Hodges over Harold. But I think Valles has the frame to fill out to 255-260# and not lose mobility and explosiveness. I could see him starting in the role you see, but eventually becoming a full time DE. That projected developmental timeline is just fine with me given Rob Ninkovich's contract and age. A rotational player in 2015-2016 who takes over in 2017 works for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing all three at the combine. That could affect which way I go with regards the three of them.
