Did the Pats just introduce their very own "wildcat" to the league? :)

By that I mean something the league hadn't seen before and might have trouble stopping until it gets figured out... and we'll probably see a lot more of it around the league.

Kudos for whoever came up with it... brilliant. Now cue Florio calling it cheating in 3...2..1...

Well, Harbaugh called it 'deception' in his PC 30 minutes back. He also admitted that he had never seen it before. :D

I think its perfectly true that the point of that package is to deceive the defense into covering an ineligible receiver.

I'm a little slow right now; probably from banging my head with my hands during the game....

So I need to ask how Vereen declaring himself ineligible helped us?

It gave the Pats the correct number of ineligible receivers on the field prior to the start of the play.

Yeah I'm curious to know more about the intricacies of this play too.

The combo of Vereen being ineligible and the Ravens not fully noticing had the advantage that he was consuming pass defense resources that hence weren't available to be used against other Patriots (such as Hooman).

Said it in the other thread. Vereen went to Vinovich said he was the ineligible receiver, Vinovich then pointed to Vereen for at least 10 seconds and said he was the ineligible receiver.

There is no freaking deception if you were too stupid to notice.

right tackle Shane!

McDaniels showcasing himself for a HC gig with the Edelman pass and that Vereen ineligible play?

I missed that whole thing as I was fast forwarding in full anxiety mode. When did it happen (I want to go watch it), and can someone explain the details to those of us who need remediation on our x's and o's?

The Pats put four OL on the field (think Kline came off and Connolly moved to center, Wendell RG, no LG) with two tight ends (Hoomanawanui is the "LT" on the short side of the unbalanced line) and Vereen is in the slot on the line, covered by the outside receiver (LaFell) who is also on the line. Vereen declares himself an ineligible receiver (which he has to, as he has an eligible number, 34) at the last possible moment, so the defense hopefully isn't fully aware and someone decides to cover him.

The person who covers Vereen is the guy who should be covering Hoomanawanui, so he hopefully is either uncovered (which is what happened) or the free safety comes down to get him and Brady gets Cover Zero and can pick his poison.

I thought that such packages should only be delivered early in the season against a division rival...?!?!?!

^ In short, Hooman lined up as left tackle, Vereen out wide reported as ineligable to make the formmation legal, Ravens didnt cover Hooman off the snap, he was wide open up the seem.... twice.

Excellent explanation. I think, if memory serves, there were three Raven defenders that shifted over to the side of the field Vereen was on in confusion. For all the Harbaugh complaints, this is what time outs are for.

Frickin' genius!

Where do ya guys watch the post game interviews?

I loved it best when Tom responds in his PC (when questioned about it) that the other team better read the rules properly. :)

What a relief. The title of the thread made he thing this was about something else.
