Flacco is master of drawing interference

Hey, it's apparently an effective strategy. But I hope they try this, because Revis for one will adjust to and maybe pick any under thrown ball, so if the Pats put him on T. Smith maybe they get a pick-6.

I think the nfl needs to take a look at underthrown dpi penalties. It really is a sham. Poorly execute a generally bad decision and get rewarded with a game changing call. I don't like it when we get them, and I hate it when we get those calls against us. These calls literally reward some of the most uncompetitive plays in football.

I completely agree. If interference occurs because a receiver is trying to come back to the ball by running through a defender, then I really don't think it should be considered DPI. Basically, it shouldn't be possible to induce DPI by design.

My guess is we will see 3 PI calls vs pats this weekend as Joe will just throw it up and hope and with browner rep..he will get a couple called on him like always. I hope they aren't 50 yards down field...i can take 10/15 yards...but not half the field....

Another good point. The thing that gets me most is the bail out on a bad play. Compound that with underhanded play design, to be blunt, the league can do far better.

They should switch to the ncaa pass interference rule

Even some writers know the Flacco trick.

7. Baltimore Ravens
After his team dropped the rival Steelers to advance to the divisional round, John Harbaugh anointed Joe Flacco as "the best quarterback in football." Results are results, I guess, but if the Ravens are going to take down the Patriots next weekend, they're going to need more from Flacco than the "throw it deep and hope for PI" approach. That said, if Baltimore's defense performs in Foxborough like it did in Pittsburgh, the team has a chance. You only have to go back a few years to find the last time the Ravens took down New England in the postseason – 2012, the year Baltimore hoisted the Lombardi.

What is that rule? I don't watch much college football.

In college, it's a first down at either spot of the foul or 15 yards, whichever is less (so a maximum of 15 yards). This gets rid of those ridiculous 50+ yard PIs that we see from time to time, but it also makes intentional PI a valid strategy in some situations. Personally, I do prefer college to NFL rules, but I don't particularly like either.

I think that a better solution would be to adjust what constitutes interference. Specifically, remove the benefit of underthrowing your guy downfield and manufacturing interference when the receiver tries to come back through the defender to the ball. Alternately, I wouldn't mind seeing the league call OPI *way* more aggressively when receivers run through a defender coming back to an underthrown ball. That would really kill the incentive for drawing up these stupid plays.

Basically if there is pass interference the penalty is at max 15 yards. still a big penalty but much more manageable

My only concern about the college approach to PI is that DB's would maul receivers for it when they knew they were burned if the PI will be less than the actual catch (or a touchdown)

Maybe this is still a good trade off, though. I guess it probably would be.

I think I would prefer that to awarding someone 50 yards or more when they didn't even catch the ball and there is no guarantee that they would.

“Is that him or the receiver drawing the penalties? Who do you think? Why do you think it’s both of them? Stats are not always true. If the ball is thrown way down there, what does he have to do with the penalty? Explain that to me,” Browner deadpanned, before finally cracking. “I’m having fun with this right now.”

“I think it’s more so the receiver slowing down and coming to the ball,” Browner said of the Ravens’ ability to draw penalties.

“If you’re in good coverage and got your eyes back on the ball, you have a good chance of making a play on the ball and not pass interference.”

Joe is going to go after Browner for sure. I hope it backfires too. Browner will have help, so I expect a few picks. I look at Browner on T.Smith with help, Revis on S.Smith, Smith will get his, but nothing deep like he usually does. Arrington on Jones/Aiken. Casillas or Collins on Daniels. I like are chances. Jones, Vince, Saliga, Branch with Nink on passing downs. We should stop the run. I would sent the crap out of Collins and HT all, and I mean all game!!! Then when they think they got the A gaps covered, send Chung through the B, drop HT/Collins to pick up the RB in the flatt.......OH and we have Ayers, who I seem to be forgetting about now!!!

A little nervous about this. Flacco is a good deep ball thrower and he gets those PI calls alot. I expect to see a couple this game.
