We're on to Baltimore

A fair amount of misinformation for such a short post. If the Ravens are a worse team than the other two and a good matchup, why will it be a closer game? Surely this version of the NEP is also better than the other two years....
Come on, its the NFL. The score of every individual game does not determine the quality of the team. Thats why teams often split games.

And "we always torch the bad secondary teams that live off the rush"... This is a whopper. Did you miss the two Jets games this year? Did you skip SB 42 and SB 46?
We scored 27 points and threw for 260 in the first game. Second game, as has been discussed here was a terrible job by the OL, not a system thing.
SBs did not fit this mold, as I already mentioned in 42, and again in 46 we threw the ball very well.

And how is it that they don't have deep threats? Torrie Smith averaging 16 ypc and Steve Smith averaging 13.5.
I didn't say they don't have them, I said if we take them away their offense will not do well. I expect we will take them away.

Plus they draw a lot of interference down the field, even if the coverage is there. Revis is a good match for Sr. but I'm not crazy about any of the matchups against T. Smith unless McCourty plays over the top of him on every play.
Browner with help on either of them will be fine, and as you said Revis takes away the other.

I have a feeling the Pats are going to lose. This is what I foresee. I think Flacco will use is ****** luck to chuck the ball downfield at will with under thrown balls. He'll either get completions or defensive pass interference calls especially against Browner. He'll also get a lot of 10-20 yard passes over the middle of the field. You'll hear a lot of the announcer saying "Wide open over the middle!". Steve Smith Sr. and Torrey Smith will have at least 100 yards each with at least one touchdown each also. I think Baltimores D-line will cause fits for Brady. Ngata will have at least one strip sack. Elvis and Suggs will have at least one sack each as well. Our O-line will be like wet toilet paper. The whole team will seem rusty from not playing in 3 weeks.

Brady 179 yards 2 TD 3 INT
Flacco 425 yards 4 TD 0 INT

Pats 20
Ravens 41

#$%@ this game
Similar thoughts to me. Nice to have time off to heal injuries but also time to go stale. As
mentioned earlier, offense not very good in last two games.

If you liked the passing offense in the games you just recounted than we will just agree to disagree.

Also, just because you can match up with a deep threat doesnt mean it ceases to exist. It still stretches the field and makes you allocate resources to the deep part of the field that cant be used closer to the line of scrimmage, it still creates the potential for game changing PI and it still creates the potential for a huge play if you miss a jam or misplay the ball in the air.

Can't wait til we beat up on Baltimore this weekend, I'm sick already of all this" Ravens have the Pat's Number talk" I'm going to be especially happy to see the look on Suggs ugly, smug face after they lose!!!!

I hope they beat up on the ravens. I'll be very sad if they don't. I get depressed when they lose.

Not sure how they'll overcome the DL etc. But at least they know what the problem is. Quick passes over the middle? Maybe Manieri can catch some short passes.

Well thats not really what I said now is it? Maybe we will just disagree to agree to have a reasonable discussion.

OK, great. I will continue to believe that if you take a deep threat away from a team that relies on it you are defending them well, and you can continue to believe whatever it is you believe.

Just to interject a little fact, Flacco is 7/30 with 2 Ints on passes thrown more than 30 yards downfield this year. Yup, less than 1/2 per game. Pretty sure they got that average against worse players than Revis, Browner and McCourty.

For the season, the Patriots have 8 40+ pass plays and allowed 8.
The Ravens have 7 and allowed 10.

Not seeing why I should be shaking in my boots.
Hell, lets give them double their average, one long completion, and we get zero. We still win big.

The other big advantage for us in this matchup is that for 3/4 of the season, BB has refused to come out of nickel to stop the run, demanding that his D can defend the run from nickel, which it did very well. That gives us a great deal of confidence in the scheme to defend a balanced offense.

For people worried about the OL, Solder was out in last year's game vs the Ravens, forcing Mankins to LT. As Rob0729 remarked after that game, "Also kudos to the o-line. They were far from perfect, but they held up pretty well without Solder against a good front seven. Special shout out to Wendell who did very well vs. Ngata today."

Just go back to the threads from last year for pats-ravens, same worries about the same matchup problems and the game wasn't close. As another QB said, people need to R-E-L-A-X.

The upset is definitely possible, but people need to feel more confident about their own team.

I personally believe the Ravens will be a much tougher out than those two teams were, but I agree that due to their particular regular season success, or lack there of, that the case can be made.

So you choose to believe dumb things.

The Patriots lost the Super Bowl against the Giants in 2011 because:

Gronk's ankle....does anyone even remotely think Blackburn gets that INT with a healthy Gronk?

WELKER DROPPED THE GAME WINNING TD PASS.

How "hard" the Giants were/are meant exactly squat.

The only things that have kept the Patriots from winning the last three Lombardi's are:

Injuries
Failure to make plays when they were presented.

All these "hardened" opponents....pass rush.....punched in the mouth....physical nonsense is just complete nonsense.

The Oline/Dline/ What's my line/clothesline means little.

No injuries...and simply execute and this team hoists another Lombardi.

Couldn't agree more. Isn't it funny how teams that lose games always seem to have been punched in the mouth? Were the Patriots punched in the mouth by the Jets in 2004 when they won 13-7? Or how about the 17-14 win over the Titans? Are those being punched in the mouth? What about the Dallas game in 2011? How did NE win that game if we know they didn't like to get punched in the mouth? Or the Miami game later that decided the division? Do those teams have weaker punches? Or maybe they were just jabbing while the Giants had more of an uppercut?

We really need to get some more solid measurements for every team's punchinthemouthability. Clearly it's a most meaningful statistic as it is 100% predictive.

Seriously?

Yeah, the team tallying 13 and 17 points is a powerful argument in favor of the offense shaking off that "punch in the mouth". New England really lit up the scoreboard in those games.

First of all you are comparing apples and oranges by comparing stats for yards in the air and total yards. Second Flacco is sixth in the league in accuracy of balls that travel more than 20 yards down field. That doesnt include pass interference. Torrie Smith has by far the most drawn PI in the league averaging almost 1 PI per game for an average of 25 yards. It is silly to say they dont have an excellent downfield passing game. Next you will be telling me that Tom throws an accurate deep ball and Brian Time is a legit deep threat

Love how the media is trying to play this...nightmare matchup for them. Nightmare? Huh?

This game is when Devin McCourty playing FS will earn his next contract

I believe our scores in those two SB's were 14 and 17. Those were the two best offenses in Patriots history, one of them the best in NFL history.

It was a bit more than a couple missed plays and injuries to have such lackluster performances from elite offenses.

When you state things separately that is not comparing them so you start out whacky here
Otherwise the numbers I posted are legitimate.
How is 11 almost 1 a game by the way? Isn't 25 per game 400? Are you saying smith has 400 yards of PI?

I'll take your last ignorant comment as frustration that you have no good argument. Otherwise I'm done with you. Say whatever makes you happy
