Idle thoughts - the Ma Nishtana edition.

Here is a idle thought I had today

NE,Den,Indy,Bal,Pitts have represented the AFC in Super Bowl in 17 of last 19 seasons. And now will be officially 18 of 20. With only Tennessee and Oakland rounding out for 7 teams in 20 seasons.

While in NFC they have had 13 representatives in 19 seasons. Only Detroit, Washington and Minnesota haven't won the NFC.

And to get to 13 different AFC(afl) teams you have to back to 1968 season and Super Bowl 3.

I was just glancing through the recent thread titles and though, "Ha, I totally just misread that as 'Ma Nishtana'!" :)

Perhaps we could all use a moment of "Dayenu" as well?

And the non-MOTs are scratching their heads..........

I will help; "Dayenu" is Hebrew and means, approximately, "It would be enough." It's also the title of one of the most traditional songs sung at a Seder, celebrating the gifts we receive from G-d (and, specifically, the freedom from bondage). So, can we all agree, no Dayenu for the Pats until after the Super Bowl this year?

Perhaps, we might stop saying that there is parity in the AFC. 18 out of 20 is impressive.

No dayenu for Detroit. They haven't won a playoff game since the early 90's. They've lost 18 road games in a row against winning teams.

As an aside, the meaning of "dayenu" is to for us to be thankful for the miracles in our lives, in our case here ()one of our miracles), the ownership, coaching and quarterback of the New England patriots.

Did you watch the AFCCG last year in Denver after Blount's first 5 carries?

Shmessy, this has already been refuted and you know it. Not that Josh doesn't have a tendency to give up on running it, but that game is a lousy example.

"Spread them out" was easier when Brady used to throw to more than just 2 WRs consistently.

Well, they also have a TE and another TE who is effective when thrown the ball, as well as a RB threat the Steelers didn't have. Baltimore's DBs are so terrible that it might even work with only two targets anyway.

I remember on the pass to Gronk vs SD that Teo intercepted Amendola was in the middle of the field without a defender in sight. It may not have gone for a TD but would be easily gone inside the 5 yard line.

Gronk had at least two defenders on him.

I didn't see Amendola on the play, but your characterization of Gronk is inaccurate. He was totally free deep and had Tommy not underthrown the ball, it was an easy TD.

Ken, Steve Smith would run laps around Browner. Putting Browner on little Stevie is suicide.

And TY Hilton is much better than Arrington, but that didn't present a problem when doubled properly.

I think we will see Browner on Smith Sr at times, particularly if NE is expecting a deep pass since Brandon won't be pushed around so easily.

The 2012 Ravens needed an overtime to beat Denver. The 11' Giants benefited from a fumble on the part of SF

That's actually two fumbles, an early whistle that negated a fumble on their part and two picks that were so tasty for two separate defenders that they collided attempting to make the catch. Seriously, that happened twice. If Brady had Eli's horseshoe, he'd be on number 7 by now.

We need to stop this hand wringing kvetching.
Are folks here aware that several teams have won the SB after playing 4 tough games?
We only have to win 3, and that's after an extra week's rest, healing up and preparation.

I hear you, but I think that the fans fearing Baltimore - and those like me who don't - remember the playoffs a few seasons back when we had a week's rest to heal up and prepare + hear Rex Ryan's personal insults of Brady, and yet lost to the Jets at home. (And that year was a classic one where we would have won the SB had we gone to it. Makes me mad!)

So, IMO, the extra week's rest does little if the team is not focussed.
