Multiple league sources tell CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora that Patriots OC Josh McDaniels' candidacy for the Falcons' head-coaching vacancy is being "championed" by GM Thomas Dimitroff and top assistant Scott Pioli.

Both Dimitroff and Pioli worked with McDaniels in New England. La Canfora suggests Dimitroff and Pioli's futures could be tied to whether or not McDaniels is hired. Rex Ryan is believed to rank high on owner Arthur Blank's candidates list, but obviously has no ties to Dimitroff or Pioli. If Blank opts for Ryan over McDaniels, it could create tension in Atlanta's front office.

Hopefully, Josh is 100% focused on the Ravens.

Were I Ryan I would consider a year's hiatus for the best possibly opportunity. He should not accept a HC position where the GM & management wanted someone else. Additionally, it's best to take time distancing yourself from the emotions of being canned and reflect on how you'd approach situations differently. Problem being that Rex does not seem to be even slightly introspective. He is what he is.

It's being championed by Dimitroff because there is speculation that failing to "get" McDaniels will result in his firing

Rex needs 3-5 years as a DC or Assistant HC before he should coach again. The Falcons might look like a great situation but I think similar to Belichick Rex needs some time to learn from what just happened.

If Belichick had jumped into being a HC right after leaving the Browns (ok yeah technically he was HC for a day or whatever) I think he would have had a career trajectory more like Norv Turner.

Those years between Cleveland and NE were key for him to learn about delegating, etc.

I agree with @PatsWickedPissah , though, Rex doesn't seem like the type who will learn.

As much as I want Josh to be the heir to the New England throne this is the best place besides here for him to succeed.
He has a good relationship with the front office he has studs on offense and cap space.
Plus its in a different conference respecting the Patriots.
My only hope is Adam Gase has a more impressive interview.

To be honest, could McDaniels EVER get a better job than this?

Offensive coach taking over a team with a franchise QB, elite offensive play makers, awful division (+ guaranteed 10 indoors/warm weather games a year) where two former Patriots guys (Pioli, Dimitroff) are head of personnel.

Yes, McDaniels will have other shots in the future, but this place is like personally catered to him and his strengths. Any of the other teams? I'd stay far, far away from. This though? It's pretty much perfect.

Besides taking over here no.
I think if the Job is offered to him he accepts it for also the reason of saving 2 of his friends jobs.
Many men would accept the job to also help them. But yes this job is crafted for Mcdaniels.
I wouldn't be surprised if he scoops either Daly or Johnson as his defensive coordinator.

With Gonzalez gone and S. Jackson seemingly as cooked as a well-done steak, that's an Atlanta team with a lot of issues. It's definitely helped by playing in a down division, but

TE
RB
OL
DE (pass rushers: note the plural)
LB

are all critical needs before you even start looking at normal upgrading and replacing. And the owner is not going to be in a patient mood. He just fired the winningest coach in team history, basically because of two injury ruined seasons.

Good. If MacDaniel's is leaving Atlanta is the franchise that will show the most respect to the Patriots current interests, so if they hire him they v will allow him to focus solely upon his job n in NE until that's up. Dimitroff and Pioli can take care of all of the Falcons needs in the time being.

We'll see if McDaniels takes the 49ers job Brady could leave the Pats and retire in SF with McDaniels in his home town

I don't think Rex Ryan is that bad of a coach. He went 50-52 with the Jets including a 4-2 playoff record. Considering he had no QB and not much in the way of marquee players that is good work. The guy is clown, he talks to much and stuff, but he isn't a bad coaching candidate, certainly a better candidate then McDaniels who was horrific during his Broncos tenure.

I don't like that idea at all. Brady needs to retire a Patriot, it is what is best for him and what is best for the franchise.

I hope they bring back charlie weis, but i feel like that ship has sailed

Not happening The San Fran thing.
Do you think if Bill told Josh to wait 3 seasons he should?
On the other hand Bill leaves a big shadow so he would always be compared.
I think it would actually be hard to find a quality coach willing to follow Bills footsteps.
I would think Josh's family would be a huge factor in his decision obviously. But he has said in the past his family is happy in New England.
What say you?

I don't like that idea at all. Brady needs to retire a Patriot, it is what is best for him and what is best for the franchise.

Why???? He just freed himself to go anywhere!

He likes McDaniels.

He is from SF.

Money is Money and then there is the other!

This is not a perfect world.

Filling the holes in Atlanta would be easier than you may think.
Ridley at Runningback.
Akeem Ayers at defensive end.
Throw money at Pierre Paul.
Sign Mccourty.
They have the cap to do it.
At tight end Jermanine Gresham
And Rob Houser as a move tight end.
Nate Solder at tackle.
Denver will prob release Welker
Welcome to Atlanta.

The guy is clown, he talks to much and stuff

I think that is all calculated similar, but not to the same degree, as Belichick's presser demeanor is completely different from the guy you see behind the scenes with his players.
