I think SF works quite well for Josh. Hire a DC to run that defense and that offense is a clean slate he can build. Heck, he can even bring in Tebow under the ruse that he's backing up Kaepernick.

I don't know, taking over SF in 2011 he'd have nowhere to go but up. Things are much different there now.

Trent Baalke is a back-stabbing, empty suit and Jed York is a moron for backing him and not Harbaugh. If Josh wants to go to a dysfunctional, idiotic org, SF is the place to be.

IMHO, if the Atlanta thing doesn't pan out I'd hang in Foxboro for another year. Something better than any non Atlanta situation could open up next year.

Arthur Blank is a fine owner.

Smith deserved to be fired but I also think Dimitroff needs to get his butt in gear. He hasn't done a good enough job of drafting talent. With Blank putting him on notice, not sure thats the safest spot for JMD.

Both jobs are tenuous at best.

I wouldnt say he's 17x better than BOB, at least he knew how to utilize the 2 the set better. Unless they've been saving it for the playoffs....

You need a second TE to make the 2 TE set work...

UPDATE: Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has agreed to interviews this week with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers, according to CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora. Both teams are searching for a new head coach.

IF Josh leaves the Patriots, who would be OC for the Patriots?

Just the distraction he needs while we're getting ready for the playoffs. He'll really be horrible calling the O now.

If he leaves they will probably promote from within. Maybe somebody who can call a decent game in the SB.

Now the Brady contract maneuvers make sense. Brady and McDaniels to SF (wouldn't that have people crapping in their corn flakes).

I agree with this premise. I know that Atlanta sounds like a good situation for him, but McDaniels himself spent a 1st round pick on Tebow expecting him to be a stud QB. I wouldn't be surprised if he is salivating over the chance to be the guy who turns Kaepernick into a star.

My expectation would be Daboll given that he has previous experience as an OC. Might not officially get title in 2015 though.

Was BB calling the plays in 09 or did o'brien just not have the title?

Next man up if he lives ... not concerned at all.
He's an above average OC ... but not great.
without Gronk and Edleman on the field he had no magic.
This is a case of the players enhancing the coach IMO.
not sure Bill Walsh (not that McD is a great by any means) would have done much with LaFell and scrubs tbh....speaks more to lack of depth on offense.

My guess would be Charlie Weiss, one can hope.
But honestly first things first he has to be offered a head coach position he then has to accept it.
Who knows what the Patriots are willing to offer him like I said before if he stays I would think he gets a handsome bump in salary and more power either way.

I'm the first person that will jump on JM for the lack of running plays, but he has kept this offense among the elite in the league and would be missed. I'd rather he stay here and get his pass-happy head screwed on straight.

I highly doubt that will happen.

And boy was he right about Cutler.

He was right about Marshall too. Marshall didn't get treatment for his personality disorder until he got to Chicago. Now he's a model citizen and locker room leader, but that wasn't the case in Denver or Miami. Aside from the Tebow disaster he was actually a pretty good personnel guy, in retrospect.

You really want Charlie Weiss back? I expect it to be Daboll or Chad O'Shea if McDaniels does leave. And what kind of power would they give McDaniels?

I think the ship has sailed with charlie weis. My guess would be brian daboll would get to call the plays and later gets to be OC.

McDaniels would be foolish to consider the SF offer unless he has an immediate solution at quarterback and he would be foolish NOT to consider the Atlanta offer. Atlanta is not all that far off from being a serious contender in the NFC. They need a couple of pieces on the OL, a capable TE, a couple of pass rushers, and some pieces in the secondary. But he already has a quarterback he can easily work with and a receiving corps that borders on elite to go along with a GM he knows he will be on the same page with.
