Miguel:

Thanks. Great stuff, as usual.

Do you think there could be some arcane "cash over cap" rules that make it difficult to pay massive amounts of cash in a single year (and, therefore less cash spending in subsequent years? Could guaranteed for skill escrow amounts be treated as cash over cap?

Specifically, if you were to pay (for example), $100 million in bonus this year, would it be difficult to spend the minimum cash in subsequent years? It's an area of the new CBA that I've never really though about from the standpoint of structuring contracts, but I know there are fairly strict rules on cash outlay as a percentage of cap each year (and averages over several years).

it's much easier to get ring in basketball.
Really? Not that many players have them. Pretty much driven by who has the transcendent player in the league. LeBron. Duncan. Jordan. Shaq. Everybody else (with a couple of exceptions) is generally playing for second.

it would be a travesty if brady doesn't win his 4th before he hangs it up

he's not a thug. he is just a jackass

Dude does his job and sells his brand. The only reason I know and care anything about him is his ability to sell himself. Every pats fans got introduced to him when they beat us in Seattle with the "you mad bro" incident. Would love for Brady to wipe that smile off his face and get his 4th ring against them for the record.

Funny thing is if you listen to the audio from that whole Crabtree situation he was going up to him to tell him(Crabtree) good game and give him daps. Crabtree is really one of these dudes whose minds still resides in the hood they successfully escaped. Crabtree, trying to be hard starting actual fights @ charity events etc. What Sherman does is entertainment, he's the WWF villain we rooted against as children, nothing more. I would be willing to bet actual money if you ever ran into him @ a grocery store dude would be NOTHING like you think.

Brady also now can be released from the Patriots without any liability, but he then would become an unrestricted free agent, free to command the type of guaranteed money he has agreed to surrender. This frees up cash for the Patriots to use on other players

im sorry but this just screams BB releasing brady this offseason, someone convince me otherwise

Was just about to say this, only about 10 different teams have won NBA titles as well. Also it's much harder to pull yourself up in basketball. Teams don't just get good after a couple good drafts like in the NFL. Much harder to infuse top level talent

I don't think this is a sign that BB's going to release Brady, but more a sign that Brady wants to be sure he does not get traded and is allowed to choose which team to play for IF BB does decide to let him go.

brady is a transcendent player. in nba, best teams almost always win it all. in football? one bad game is all it takes to lose the SB. just look at us.

and it's logical for basketball to have more players with 3+ rings. basketball is 5 on 5. you are right. only handful of players can have multiple rings. but it's so much harder in NFL. football is an ultimate team game. russell won 11 rings. you can't do that in NFL. MJ won 6. could've won 8 if he really wanted to. you can't do that in the NFL. most ever won was 4 by steelers & niners.

Easier for underdogs to win in football...see NY Giants. In the pros in terms of hoops #6 seeds don't win. In the NCAA...sure

Why would it be a travesty? He's no more entitled to a ring than any of the other great players. No QB ever has won more than 4 and there are only two of them. Was it a travesty that Aikman only won 3? (in 4 years just like Tom.)

but if Brady wanted that he shouldn't have restructured his contract, wasnt it pretty much untradeable after week 17?

Not travesty but disappointing for sure. As he has great talent around him.

I got it, everybody bear with me and get your tinfoil out:

McD goes to San Fran, bombs a season with Kap, and then proceeds to trade us a couple firsts for Brady, who really just wants to play closer to home, in the warm weather and earthquakes.

And to make it less suspicious, Brady sold his California house and built a new one in Boston.

Genius!

Serious? You don't think Snyder or Woody Johnson wouldn't trade for him regardless of how much it costs or the picks? Brady doesn't want that, he wants to choose where he goes... again - only IF BB decides to get rid of him which I don't think he does. Brady's interview earlier in the year was quite telling (imo), he wants to play as long as he thinks he is good whether thats with the Pats or another team (of his choice).

O **** dude, I better start getting into my Faraday bunker, I don't think the tinfoil is going to cut it!
