It's official, the Rex era is over in New Jersey

His defenses have always been good, even without much talent. I never said he was a good GM, just a good coach.

Those offenses have been terrible. Lacking in OL talent for much of his tenure...receiver talent is a joke, running backs or TE?

I have no idea what the GM was thinking when putting that offense together.

Heck, they held the Patriots to 17 points, with nothing but duct tape and old men

Defensive points against the last four years: 19, 20, 19, 23. Some defensive genius.

"Duct tape and old men?" Or, you know, a Top 2 defensive line. So stop.

This current Jets team has the aforementioned dominant D-line, good LB corps, a decent OL, decent receivers, a decent TE, and one very good RB. If your argument is that Rex can only win when he has superior talent, you're admitting that he can't coach guys up or develop them ... that he's not actually a good coach. Jesus.

Give credit where credit is due. That was a signature win for Rex, and that will never change (unless he wins a Superbowl as a HC). He's only one of two coaches to go in to Foxborough in the playoffs and take down the Pats. I'm not a Rex fan, but I will never forget that game or playoff run. It's just a shame, that we played poorly in the second half of the AFC Championship game vs Indy, and gave away an eleven point lead.

Close only counts in horseshoes, son.

Keep celebrating that. AFCCG losses are not looked on with such glee here.

You Jets fans have learned to be satisfied with less. Enjoy your small distant victories.

Well I guess the Pats haven't had success in a decade, since they haven't won a SB, right?

Like it or not, Rex will always be remembered for that game, and you'll never forget that game.

The answer to your first sentence is, yes, the Patriots have not reached their goal in 10 years.

Your second sentence only shows how low a bar Jets fans set.

Hey, one man's gold is another man's garbage. Keep enjoying your dumpster diving.

Oh, and BTW "Champ", thanks for the extra draft pick your esteemed owner just gave away to us today in his press conference!

Wrong. But you're a Jets fan so "close" is good.

Bum Phillips did it too, along with Ryan and Harbaugh.

Only one is a SB champion.

That was a divisonal playoff game , between two heated rivals. A game where the Patriots were the heavy favorites. Listen all I said was that he'd always have that win over Bill and company. And that is absolutely true, whether you like it or not. And everyone remembers that the Chargers took down the Colts; the Chargers were an 8- 8 team!

He'd always be 4-9 against the Patriots.

You sure you're a Jets fan? You lost to Indy in 2009. Beat the Pats and lost to the Steelers in 2010. What's sad is that a divisional playoff win is the second greatest win in Jets history, with the first being a game that took place almost five decades ago.

I know that. But we never had a shot in the Steelers game. We were down by 24 at half, we were on the verge of beating the Colts.

You do realize you're not getting an extra pick? It'll be a 6th round swap or something along those lines and I'm not even sure that will happen.

It's unfair that the NFL makes teams play a first half.

The Jets are just unlucky that way.

What is wrong? That was a signature win for Rex, but I don't expect you too admit it. You do realize I was speaking about the Billichick era? Fans here have told me only two coaches have beaten the Pats in Foxborough (in the playoffs) during the Brady/Bill era.

And that sums up both Rex (and the Jets):

The pinnacle of his career (and lifetime as fans of the team) is a division round playoff game.

Rex Ryan's time was up, but I will never forget the 2011 divisonal playoff game, where he went into Foxborough and led his team to a victory. He will always have that over Bill and company.

He not only won, he did it with a seemingly unconventional, high risk game plan. 2 lineman with their hands on the ground and 80 DBs running around with their pants on fire.

For chrissakes, why didn't the Pats run the ball?

I , hope , to see my team win a SB in the near future, but that's not happening unless we get lucky in the draft.

When the season starts WE Think Super Bowl, I should say Winning the Super Bowl, nothing short of that satisfies any longer. To win the afccg is ok but no longer enough. hell its not even enough to make it to the SB and lose, at least for me. We have higher standards, We are spoiled.

This is all started, because I simply said that Rex will always have that playoff win over Bill. This is a Rex Ryan thread, there is absolutely nothing nothing wrong with that statement. I guess I was wrong, assuming that you guys would remember the 2011 playoff game. But the other statement.,. I stand by it.

I totally agree. That was the most devastating non-SuperBowl loss in my opinion. The Pats were destroying everyone and the Jets simply had a BRILLIANT defensive scheme. We couldn't do anything.

For that, I'll always respect Rex.

Still, **** the Jets

One thing in Rex's defense - he never had a good QB. I'll spare you the stats - most years he had people that had no business as a starting QB.

I think someone should write something that could go in The Onion about Rex and Rob going to Oakland. :D

A decade, sure. Have you won one since Broadway Joe?

I've totally forgotten about that game. Rexy is an amusement to me, I'm quite sad to see him go.

BTW, I also miss Dirty Sanchez, he and Rexy were like Batman & Robin...a bizarro world version anyway...where they're not actually competent.
