Woody Johnson Clear Cut Tampered Re: Revis

No, I would not. Why you ask? Because it's ridiculous. If this any other owner had done this (excluding AFC East owners), you would not be asking for a top ten pick. You hate the Jets, and want to see them continue to fail and by taking away a top ten pick from Woody and company, the odds of us being this bad next season increases. This is what it comes down to.

Gotta love Twitter, makes it so much easier to make real noise about this stuff. Curran will make it national news so it won't just slip away.

Who do you think the jets will take with their second rounder? Probably Hundlley, they need a QB.

This must suck for jetfans, just when they thought they would get a great pick Woody goes and blows it

I don't know. After all, Geno had a perfect 158 rating yesterday!

I wonder if anyone had tweeted Goodell yet. Guess I should go find out?

Darrelle Revis’ season isn’t over yet, but the New York Jets already are trying to court him. Jets owner Woody Johnson held a news conference Monday after firing general manager John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan, and he immediately threw the former under the bus. Johnson claimed that the decision not to pursue Revis this offseason, which led to him signing with the New England Patriots, wasn’t his. “Darrelle is a great player, and if I thought I could have gotten Darrelle for that, I probably would’ve taken him,” Johnson said, via NFL.com. “And it was our best judgment to do what we did. Darrelle’s a great player — I’d love for Darrelle to come back.”

The Jets will draft Winston, Schreff, or Shaq Thompson with the sixth pick.

I would graciously accept the #6 pick in the draft.;)

I would take their 3rd rounder even. But I'm a generous man.

In reality the league would probably fine them, wouldn't give jack to new england.

And that was for an old washed up player, not a first ballot HOF player,in the prime of his career.

That article is from 2008. At that time, Lance Briggs was in the middle of a run of 7 straight pro bowl appearances. He wasn't a Revis-level player, but he was pretty good.

If Goodell was consistent (Ha!) with his punishments, he'd have to increase the penalty here. Taking this situation as a baseline and an implied warning to everyone else, then adding in that Johnson was warned about breaking this rule earlier this year, you would expect higher draft picks to be involved. Which is why Goodell with probably fine Johnson $25K and order him go hatless in his next press conference.

I apologize to jetfan but I felt it my duty to tweet Goodell, however the NFL is refusing comment right now on jets tampering case. I suppose that's fair given it just happened. Hopefully we will have comment by days end.

I would assume that as part of the punishment that they would preclude the Jets from pursuing Revis if he becomes a free agent.

That is definitely fair, he can sign anywhere else but not with the jets.

If Goodell doesn't severely punish the Jets for this, Kraft should be outraged. And I don't think Goodell can afford to outrage one of the more influential owners in the league at this time. Not only were the Jets warned about this earlier this year, it goes to an institutional pattern of this kind of misbehavior. This is the same organization that was heavily fined and penalized for tampering with Bill Parcells back in 96.

That the Jets will likely be punished for this cheating incident, is not really in doubt. What is in doubt is what the punishment will be. Will it be a heavy fine? Will it be the forfeiture of draft picks, and if so which ones. And the big one for me, will the Pats get to be a beneficiary of all this.

I can see the Jets being find, or losing a mid round draft pick, but I can also see the Pats not gaining anything by it.

Given that this isn't the first time the Jets have been involved in this kind of behavior, the penalty SHOULD be harsher than just an incidental slip of the tongue. Swapping first round picks would be an appropriate penalty. But as nice as that would be for us (and certainly make the Draft season MUCH more interesting for Pats fans to follow), I can't see Goodell or the other owners allowing BB to get a shot at that kind of talent. We haven't had a pick that high since Richard Seymour in 2001.

Just a note to our resident Jet fan poster. You know in your heart of hearts, that if Kraft had made this idiotic remark, most your delusional bretheren would be calling for nothing less that the Pats removal from the league. ;) BTW- count me among those to welcome your thoughts. Its good to have some other views pop up occasionally.

CURRAN WILL ADDRESS THE REVIS TAMPERING SCANDAL ON QUICK SLANTS TONIGHT

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS-BIG NEWS THOUGH. IT MAY COST THE JETS THEIR FIRST ROUNDER. PATRIOTS MAY GET TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYER, WR, OR OL IN THE 2015 DRAFT

Jesus I love this

Given the distance between where the JEST and Patriots will pick in each round, I think swapping seconds would be a perfectly reasonable punishment. :)

I wouldn't get your hopes up. While I agree this type of thing should be punished the sixth overall seems a bit much.

Woody has weighed in on tampering case says he is sorry about the comment but would, love to have Gronk and Jamie Collins as well, and Belichick if he wants to return.
