Schefter: Revis will go to where best deal is

The pats will pay revis.

This whole "the pats dont pay people!" Is overstated. They dont overpay for guys they feel are good but not elite game changers.

They had no problem locking up and paying gronkowski whom is an elite tight end.

And they ended up paying wilfork, mayo and mankins big money.

If I was a betting man they realise the market for a top corner is and realise the impact a player of revis caliber has and will pay him accordingly.

When you have a top corner like a Revis or for example in the past with Talib, it's a domino effect. When your top CB is in form, the rest of the defense improves as they can slot into easier/better matchups. And we move Revis when we need to, he is versatile, that means it's hard to gameplan against him. All the QB knows is that when he sees Revis it's always a bad bet to test him and that makes him take time to make another read which can give the defensive line maybe a half second more to get to the QB.

When Revis played for the Jets many posters on this board expressed the opinion that a shutdown corner was not worth allocating such a high % of cap space to because that player was too easy to gameplan around. I'd be curious to hear if/why any of those opinions have changed.

I don't think Revis would take less than 5/75.

I'd jump on 5/75 as long as the last two years were big funny money numbers with easy escapes. That would mean the cap hit for each the first three years would average under $15 mil.

See I don't know. That core on D is strong and young and Brady still has 2-3 prime years left..with gronk. This won't be our last shot
From your lips to God's ears, but at 38 injuries loom larger.

Extend Revis and Mccourty,
rework Contracts of Wilfork, Mayo, Admendola.
Extend Ayers, Branch.
Bye Solder, Volmer,
Cannon and Flemming are the new tackles.
Trade for Josh Gordon a fourth gets it done and is a round that Belichick will take a shot on.
Gostkowski unfortunately walks we draft a kicker.
Ridley is back, Vareen walks u a

Long term deals Revis and McCourty = yes
Re-worked deals for Wilfork, Mayo and Amendola (not fussed if he leaves) that lower their cap hits (although Wilfork has been awesome this season) = yes
Extend Ayers and Branch if possible = yes (these middle class guys are important)
Keep Solder and Vollmer = Cannon and Fleming are not the new tackles
The Browns are not going to trade Josh Gordon after vacating his 3rd accrued season to Free Agency
Gost is one of the best kickers in the NFL = he stays
Ridley may be back (ACL makes him a cheaper 1 year prove it deal) and Vereen should be too (the loss of Woodhead should prove the worth of a pass catching RB).

Not sure why folks think wilfork will rework his deal, that last negotiation had a little drama to it.

Big Vince has an 8.43 million cap hit next season. Put me in the boat that he is worth every penny I just don't see the Patriots ponying up that amount for Wilfork in 2015. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Once I see Schefter or his girlfriend Mortenson starting a sentence,
DUMP!

Depends on the cap hit, I have no idea what it is. Maybe.

the pats will pay market value if you are one of the Elites at your position and he is but is paying a 30 year old CB 11 plus million over a 3 to 4 year contract a good move ? there are guys like Jason Pierre-Paul, Ndamukong Suh, Justin Houston, Greg Hardy and Mike Iupati, that could hit the market all younger then Revis and IMO would have just as big if not a bigger impact on the team and in the same price range as Revis,

its just a dream but think about it you cut Wilfork who at 34 may get cut anyways and let revis go and add Suh next to jones on the DL and you still got the money to bring back McCourty and Ayers with Browner and add a CB and G in the first and 2th round
I'd let Browner go for $6M less than Revis 7 days of the week.

I still don't see them allowing him to hit free agency. It's either an extension or suck it up and pay him 20m dollars for year two.

They have to know that if he hits free agency it's a much shakier proposition. Normally, I'd give it 50/50 once a player hits free agency as a starting point, but with a guy like Revis (reputation and season he just had), I'd start with about 35-40% that he'd return. My concern would obviously be another team with more money and less worry about "value" throwing crazy money around.

I don't think Revis automatically goes for the best offer.... if the Jaguars for example were to offer him 5%-10% more than us, you think he'd go to that bottom feeder joke of a club for that extra 5%? I agree, money talks, but you also have to take into consideration of where you are going to play... especially after you have just spent a year playing with the GOAT and the #1 seed in the AFC.

Revis wants to see $$$$ signs, but I'm sure he also wants a ring.
It's not like he ever played for a bottom feeder that paid him HUGE money.......TWELVE MONTHS AGO.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would trust this guy who worked for the Patriots over Shefters opinion..... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2304507-will-the-new-england-patriots-resign-darrelle-revis

Watch the video!

It might be schefter's opinion , but his opinion's are usually based from talking with sources. The guy has contacts everywhere so i would not be surprised that he got such an opinion from the Revis camp. Simms worked with the Patriots, but he was never close to being a confidant of Bill's or an inner circle member , so his opinion is probably the more way off guess.

Sup, if Revis his fee agency it is because they couldn't reach a deal, if that happens he is gone.

Imo the hard part has already been accomplished, that was getting him n here to begin with, now they have him and he appears to be having a really good experience in New England, and even though money is the major factor in these negotiations I think Revis is reaching a point in his career where legacy will play a role n in his deliberations, and if the Patriots offer him a fair deal he will take it to gain stability, win rings, and try to cement a legacy as a winner as well as an all time great at a position.

Erasing Jet Stink is akin to eradicating the stench of death but if he wins a ring or two in New England Revis may actually be able to get it off of him, for everyone sake let's hope so.

An extension would obviously be the first priority, but if that cannot be reached, there's no way that I'd let him hit free agency. He's still under contract. I'd pay the 20m dollars for the 2nd year option.

That would give them at least one more year of Revis, and more importantly, another 12+ months to try and reach an extension. Letting him reach free agency is a ticking timebomb in my opinion. I think they'd have to suck it up and pay the 2nd yr option if they can't come to terms.

I agree with you that he's likely worth every penny, or at least very close to it.

I would've liked to have seen a replacement brought in via high draft pick about 1-2 yrs ago, and am somewhat surprised that they waited this long.

That might be true if Schefter were going on SportsCenter with a breaking report. But, this was just a regular call in to the idiots at 'EEI. If you were asked about Revis, wouldn't you say that he plays for top dollar? That's not exactly "inner circle" breaking news. It also has nothing to do with contract negotiations with the Pats. Does anyone think Bill Belichick isn't aware of Revis' salary history?
