Jimmy Garopollo starts, plays brilliantly, then what?

Everyone is tradeable. The question is what is Garopollo worth to us.

I think Brady plays at a high level for 2 more years, and maybe 3.
That means the likelihood of Garopolla being a 'steal' as a starting qb on a rookie contract won't happen.

If he plays awesome tomorrow, and if that leads to a top 10 pick offer, I'd trade him. Otherwise I'd keep him another year and see what further progress occurs.

Let us pretend Garopollo takes the field on Sunday and is lights out, what is your plan for him:

- Do you stay the course and keep him as a backup and potential heir apparent to Brady in 3-4 years?
- Do you move on from Brady who is still a top 5 QB in the NFL (behind just Rodgers in my opinion)?
- Do you trade Jimmy G for a high draft pick in round 1 of the 2015 draft?

What would you do??

P.S. Happy Holidays and best wishes in the New Year to all of you! Go Pats‼
The only think I know for sure is that one "lights out" performance at Home against a team that's out of the Playoffs and playing a meaningless game is not going to lead the Pats to "move on from Brady," barring a catastrophic injury to Brady or TB's own (highly unlikely) decision to retire.

If he's that good, there would be no reason to trade him, given Brady's age and the ever-present possibility of serious injury.

Keeping him as "backup" is a separate question from keeping him as a "potential heir apparent." So I guess I'm saying that if he plays a good game on Sunday (assuming that he plays more than a few meaningless garbage time plays in the second half), it would suggest that it is likely they'd keep him around as a backup.

Otherwise, we never know what scheming may be lurking in the mind of the Hooded One.

If he plays lights out on Sunday I lie in the weeds until draft time and start leaking rumors of him being traded for multiple #1's. Then I sit back and watch the carnage on the board start

The Pats immediately fire Brady and Garappolo wins the next super bowl!
Quite an imagination you have there. They don't start Jimmy and regardless of the kind of game he has, they tell him to go sit on the bench while Brady wins #4.:)

With a great performance tomorrow by Jimmy G you should trade him to Cleveland for Justin Gilbert, Johnny Manziel, and Josh Gordon.

You are receiving in Gilbert, the # 10 pick in last years draft, a shut-down corner to replace Darrell Revis who will leave for the money. In JFF you get a young, albeit slightly shorter Brady, and someone who admittedly plans to tear up the league. In Gordon you get the long coverted "1" receiver, finally finding a replacement for Randy Moss .

A young Brady? More likely the next incarnation of Geno with twice the obnoxiousness.

You were doing so well with your post there before it went all to hell

So we will trade Garopollo for the next Darrelle Revis and next Randy Moss, and all we have to do is stomach the sight of Johnny Manziel? I'm in..[emoji12]

What are you talking about imagination? I posed a question and did not offer an opinion of what I would do. You should work on your reading comprehension skills if you want to give these types of responses in threads so you do not embarrass yourself.

Doesn't matter we get the next Revis and next Moss, Garopollo for 2 future HOF players... **** that would be the best #62 pick ever.

Also don't insult Geno Smith like that.

Two things I didn't quite understand from that article:

Exactly which cancers did he discover the cures to, and just how much water did he convert into aged single-malt scotch?

Gordon doesn't bother to turn up to practices and Gilbert got called out publicly by one of his own players for laziness. I think Manziel is the best adjusted of the three.

To me even a top 5-15 pick for Garoppolo is a difficult decision. If he merits a top 5-15pick then the concensus is that he is a franchise QB.

We would have a top 5 pick but no heir apparent to a one year older Brady.

We all know how hard it is to find a franchise QB, how much more draft capital would we subsequently spend looking and failing?

And if we trade him for a top 10 pick we still have an aging Tom Brady with no backup and no heir apparent.

How much draft capital would it cost the Pats to find Brady's successor? Chances are it would cost more than the top 10 pick we would receive in trade.

If Garoppolo plays lights out then we keep him and say "No" to the top 10 pick.

I just read that they're the next Randy Moss and Darrelle Revis. So apparently they're that freaking good Manx..

You have to keep in mind Garoppollo is only under contract through 2017. We would have to resign him before he was our starter assuming Brady plays out his contract. It's an intriguing situation that becomes even more intriguing if Jimmy has a good game on Sunday. Personally I would trade him for a top 15 pick but that would be my cutoff. If he was under contract for the post Brady seasons I would have to think about it some more but given he could walk back to Chicago where he played high school and college ball after 2017 It would be a good trade in my opinion.

He could have just meant the guy that replaces Revis on the roster. It doesn't necessarily mean he'll be as good. Gilbert and Gordon are talented players with questionable heads. Like I said, Manziel might just be the most screwed on of the three. I have no thoughts about what was said beyond that.

I know I was just messing around. I would give the Browns a sixth round draft pick for Gilbert and Gordon.

I already traded Garoppollo to Chicago for the #7 pick. Who should I pick with it?

Even before he gets to play lights out today's article portrays a hard-working, well-liked by his teammates, player. The same certainly cannot be said for Johnny Football and Ge-NO!! Having the respect of the locker room for such a young QB who is still a backup really bodes well for his future.

The Pats brain trust really likes him considering the draft capital they just invested, and he has shown every indication so far, of living up to their hopes for him.

I think it would take an extraordinary offer for the Pats to trade him.

Off course if he plays horrendously on Sunday I reserve the right to edit this post and change my opinion....

First I would not want Manziel or Smith so you have me confused with someone else. Second there was a 12 pick difference between where we took Garoppollo in this past draft and where we took Mallett in 2011 so the draft capital perception is not really indicative of much.

I like Garopollo but if you can turn the #62 pick into a top 15 pick in one year you make that trade. After all why couldn't we draft another Garopollo this year or next?
