2015 NFL Mock Drafts

Sounds exactly like a tool we would use. I think we all agree that he would make a nice draft pick and to me personally he looks more interesting than most of last year's TEs.

However, I almost expect that someone (e.g. Ravens ? Who knows what will happen with Pitta) will get him in the second round before we have a chance. Unless under ideal circumstances I am not sure if our situation + his ability is worth trading up for.

TE certainly isn't at the top of our needs list and it's hard justifying picking him with the first pick, whether in the first or after a trade back, and I probably wouldn't. But can you imagine how he and a quality RB would top off the offensive skill positions. We'd still need offensive linemen but our offence would be really hard to stop with him and 2-3 years of Marshawn Lynch or some such prospect on top of what we already have.

I completely agree, in fact I would rate having a flexback that is a serious runnng threat but also needs to be taken seriously as a receiver as the biggest upgrade to skill players we could potentially have. This would make the no huddle more lethal, because it will essentially guarantee that Brady can find a mismatch somewhere. As you said, add in a second TE like Maxx Williams and this could become another offense for the ages.

That being said, if I have to decide between upgrading the trenches significantly or upgrading our offense I don't really have to think about it. It is pretty clear to me that we should go with the former.

Now, if we find someone who is very desperate to trade up into the first round...

That's pretty much my take on it. Williams is interesting because he can play both the Gronk and Ahern roles to some extent, and apparently play them pretty well. I doubt he'll last to the 60's, but it's early. Right now I'm budgeting for 1 trade up in the 1st 2 rounds. If the Pats don't trade up in the 1st, then I'd strongly consider trading up in the 2nd for a potential impact lineman or a guy like Williams.

Very intriguing guy. IIRC, he got Senior Bowl invite. He's definitely a day 3 sleeper, with a ton of upside.

Given some of the unofficially reported early entries, I'd be very interested in a draft like this:

*** Trade 1st and 3rd round picks to move up to around 25 or so

1. Eddie Goldman - DT - Florida St. 6'4" 320#.

2. Maxx Williams - TE - Minnesota. 6'4" 250#.

3 (comp). Jeremiah Poutasi - OL - Utah. 6'6" 320#. Or Jake Fisher - OL - Oregon. 6'6" 300#.

4 (TB). Noah Spence - DE/OLB - Ohio St. 6'3" 255#. Or Owemagbe Odighizuwa - DE - UCLA. 6'3" 270#.

4. Robert Myers - OL - Tennessee St. 6'5" 310#. Possibly with a trade back to the 5th, picking up an extra late round pick.

6 (TB). DeAndre Smelter - WR - Georgia Tech. 6'3" 222#.

6 (comp). Best available DB or RB.

7 (TB). Tre McBridge - WR - William & Mary. 6'1" 205#.
Do you think we will have to move up for Goldman? I could see him being there at the end of the first round.

From my perspective it's hard to tell with Goldman. I've only seen one game and I can't decide whether he's at the fletcher Cox/Michael Brockers draft level or Timmy Jernigan. I've seen one game and was very impressed but, because he's not really a pass rusher, I lean a little towards Jernigan in terms of draft position. Having said that, I had a second round grade on Easley last year but was fine with him in the first and I feel that way about Goldman, he's certainly an impressive guy in the run game and will get pressure in the passing game at times.

Not to change the subject but I was curious what you think of Spencer Drango?

Haven't seen him yet I'm afraid. At the moment I'm content digging out interesting prospects. Once we get past declarations and the playoffs, I'll focus on prospects generally.

I was reading in NFL draft scout and they compared him to Zach Martin.

Well if that's true, this draft got a whole lot better for the OL. It's not necessarily good at LT but looks very strong at RT and fairly strong at OG depending on how you view Scherff and Collins.

I can't see Spencer Drango being in the Zach Martin class, but that's interesting.

Lots of good T/G prospects in this class. The only "pure" LT prospects that I see right now are Andrus Peat and Ronnie Stanley, neither of whom has declared yet.

Are you not of the opinion that Solder is a franchise LT?

I'd rather get a colonoscopy than watch Baylor football. If that's what college football is coming to, I can see myself golfing on a lot of fall Saturdays. Just go to 7 on 7 drills and watch flag football.

Is Tim wright a free agent next year? I understand that maxx Williams is talented, but we have wright who I believe can fill that role fine and we wont have to use a draft pick.

I think Williams will be the superior TE. In fact, Wright is barely a TE at all.

Agree. I think Wright could just be a stopgap toy that enables us to manipulate some opponents into certain sets that give Brady easy mismatches.

Wouldn't be surprised if he continues to be used mostly in red zone situations and won't get extended if we draft a "real" TE like Maxx Williams.

Minneasota has some really good football players. Besides Williams, I really like pursig, the 6'9" ot.

In fact, Wright is barely a TE at all.

Bless you. I've kept my PieHole shut for the most part, but the persistent insistence of pretending that Wright is a Flex End, just because the Bucs and now the Patriots call'm that, makes my Brain hurt. :(

Yeah, I know I'm being persnickety ~ which is why I usually refrain from my refrain :D ~ but it's certainly not unheard of for a Split End ~ a term that I apply not to a Positional Alignment but to a Skill Set ~ to make most'f'is Bread in the Slot, as Wright does. He's a Split End, same as he was when he graduated last Year. No way has he beefed up to Flex End size ~ even I can tell that. Yeah, I know I'm being persnickety ~ as I am wont to do :D ~ but I just see this as "dumbing down" the Conversation when they mislabel a guy.

After today, roughly two thirds of the draft order will be set. Draft season is almost upon us.

I was all for the pats taking aj cann in the first, but now I'm starting think otherwise. I read a report saying his upside is very limited and could be had on the third or fourth round. I know we need guards but wasting a first on a player that doesn't fit the grade is kind of a pick misspent.

I never saw Cann as a 1st round talent. The worst thing a team can do in the draft is reach for a position because of a perceived need.
