Gostkowski franchise tag tidbit

I hope they sign him. Patriot fans have gotten used to the almost automatic three. We haven't suffered the agony of a fourth quarter field goal miss that costs us the game in a long time.
2012 vs the Cardinals is the last I can remember.

Unless BB founds a gem like that Ravens kicker, they should keep Gostkowski until he decides to call it a career.

Wouldn't that thinking by BB have meant we wouldn't have Gostkowski?

Fyi - Gostkowski 's franchise tag would not be affected by his Pro Bowl bonus

If you put Gostkowski in Indy's dome, he could kick 95%+ every season. Heck, he could end up 1st all time in kick % over there. Why give Luck that advantage for years to come?

If Gost hits free agency, he's as good as gone. The Colts could afford to frontload/overpay his deal with Luck still on his rookie deal.

Denver becomes irrelevant in 2 years, so I'm not sure Gost would go there.
My would the Colts want him? Is there any evidence they're on the verge of parting ways with Vinitieri, who's been pretty much money for them? The Colts are the last team I'd expect to come around sniffing after Ghost.

While I would love to see our kicker return, I'd rather they use the tag to ensure key defensive players return next season. Obv, avoiding that is also preferable.

When the had Graham come in for Gost, things went well. They didn't implode and though I feel better with Gost, I don't recall Graham making anything I'd call a mistake. This team cut Gould in favour of AV as well. So kickers are available.

I'm with most : as long as the money is right.

Ghost has been money for a few years now. plus his KO are usually out of the back of the endzone.

He is a Pro Bowl kicker and expects to be paid as such. I think the Pats should just pony up the money and pay the man.

I'm not really sure quite what's going on here. After all, back in 2010, seemingly out of the blue (Gostkowski was on an RFA tender as a result of the uncapped year), the Patriots gave him the largest contract for a K other than Janikowski.

The question is whether or not a team is willing to vastly overpay for his services. Dan Bailey just got $3.2M a year, with $6.6M guaranteed. Gostkowski is better than Bailey, but I don't think he's going to get, say, $5M+ from anyone.

The guy hasn't missed a XP since 2006, is 86.6% lifetime and 13-17 from 50+. Hes been the best kicker in the NFL for a while now and deserves to be the highest paid in the game.

It is true that the Pats franchised AV a couple of times. First time was 02 and the second was 05. He was 33 when he left the team. With Gost being 30 and still dominant during kickoffs, I would expect that he and the Pats come to some kind of agreement.

With that said, the only thing missing from Gost's resume are clutch game-winning kicks. Along with consistency, that is the reason kickers get paid.

Whether they sign/extend or franchise, that is the market price for a top five kicker.
Either they want him and are willing to pay in the range Miguel calculates, or they move on and sign someone cheaper and not as effective.

I like gostkowsi a lot so I really hope that they retain him. Hitting those 40-50 yard field goals consistently really makes a big difference IMO.

There will be strong demand for whichever of Gost or McCourty isn't franchised. Scheme fit isn't a concern for kickers at all, and Gost has also proved he is good in bad weather. McCourty, meanwhile, is versatile enough to fit into a lot of schemes, as a safety or CB as the case may be.

The last one I remember was at Gillette against the Cardinals. Shocking finish. That may have been the year they went to the SB.

It was a year later in the second week. I am still pissed when I think back to the game because the replacement refs took away the go ahead TD for a phantom penalty after the Cards essentially fumbled the game away.

What followed was the infamous away game in Baltimore. Another great performance by the replacement refs.
