Let us pretend Garopollo takes the field on Sunday and is lights out, what is your plan for him:

- Do you stay the course and keep him as a backup and potential heir apparent to Brady in 3-4 years?
- Do you move on from Brady who is still a top 5 QB in the NFL (behind just Rodgers in my opinion)?
- Do you trade Jimmy G for a high draft pick in round 1 of the 2015 draft?

What would you do??

P.S. Happy Holidays and best wishes in the New Year to all of you! Go Pats‼

Keep him behind Brady. Let him see what it takes to succeed year in and year out. Tom is still the qb to get this team Lombardi trophies

This way garoppolo spends time developing, seeing what it takes first hand and then Brady could leave on a relatively high note and garoppolo will be all set to step in

As of tomorrow afternoon, 4pm, Garo will stay a backup until the end of 2017, at the very least (if he is still here by then).

EDIT: I forgot Brady's extension is guaranteed against injury only. Nonetheless, no reason to expect that his play is going to slip anytime soon.

Let him sit and see if Brady declines in the coming years. If he does, roll with Jimmy G. If not, let him go when the time comes and look to the draft for Brady's heir apparent.

You do absolutely nothing
There is no need to make a precipitous decision based on ONE game vs a non-playoff contender.
We do need a backup QB in 2015. We could feel reasonably comfortable that JAG fills that role.
Spending a LATE round pick on a 3rd QB prospect would be OK.

No matter what he does this Sunday. the Pats are not picking up the phone for a trade for less than a first rounder. They don't draft him in the second round and trade him for anything less than a first rounder after his first year.

I don't think the Pats do anything though. I think they intend to go into the regular season in 2015 with both Brady and Jimmy G on the roster. Now if someone calls with a crazy offer for either guy, then they might change the strategy. But I don't see the Pats shopping either QB in the offseason.

If Garoppolo has something like a 300 yard, 3 TD, and 0 INT game, I expect teams to be calling for either him or Brady. So I wouldn't be shocked if he was traded, but I would put the odds pretty low even if Garoppolo has a brilliant game on Sunday.

You continue to allow Rodgers to sit behind Favre for 1-2 years, and he'll be ready to go once Favre is traded or let go.

(edited for spelling)

Same stance as right when Jimmy G was drafted:

In 2016, 3rd year Garoppolo may be a better QB than a 39 year old Brady anyway. I think that will be the season a switch occurs (If Jimmy G pans out of course).

I was maybe Jimmy G's biggest fan prior to the draft. I had him 10th overall on my top 50 prospects. My asking price for him is Amari Cooper. I wouldn't trade him away for anything less. A potential 10-15 year franchise QB is untradeable IMO. No team would offer a top 5 pick anyway so it's a moot point.

2015: Brady
2016: Camp competition, if Brady is the loser, he is traded.

I'd tell Jimmy G that it's my pleasure to give him a laurel and hearty handshake.

Then I'd tell him to go back to his seat on the bench.

Comment "woah, Grop looks great" on the game day thread. Get six "agrees", two "likes", and one "disagree" because some men just want to watch the world burn. Get up. Hit the head real quick. Adjust self. Watch the end of the game. Grin knowing they've got some JV squad coming in in two weeks for the annual divisional round slaughter. Stress about Seattle. Get some rest. Remove Grop from consciousness until there is palpable decline in Brady's play but know without worry that there is a capable successor.

The Patriots coaching staff watch Garopollo all week in practice - I doubt there's anything he can do Sunday to radically change their opinion of him, one way or the other.

I don't see the need to rush this. Jimmy can sit one more year before deciding if the timing is right for him to be the heir apparent.

If come next year you think Brady is close enough to the end than you keep Jimmy if you think you would need to resign Jimmy in order for him to be the heir then maybe you trade him and draft the next potential heir.

One meaningless regular season game and even a whole seasons would make little difference. Even some meaningful regular season games would make little difference.

A solid performance would simply mean that Garappolo is doing his job, and that Belichick made a reasonable choice of backup QB.

Happy Holidays to you and yours as well, Brady6.

I think the prudent thing to do is stay the course. Brady is still playing at a MVP level, is healthy and the team is still a Super Bowl contender. I don't see a need to mess with success.

Grapes is a great insurance policy for a team that at the start of the 2015 season, will have a QB who is 38 years old. At that age, players either age gracefully (Elway, Young) or fall off a cliff (Favre) and at least having a year in the offense being able to step in at at least keep the ship sailing along is a good thing.

I don't think a team would offer a 1st rounder for Grapes regardless of a lights out performance Sunday. He's still unproven IMO.

I started writing that i would trade him for something ridiculous like 3 1sr round picks, but it tasted sour in my mouth.

If indeed Jimmy lights up, we must keep him no matter what. It has been said here before, there no price for a franchise qb. Brady will decline someday (i mean he is human, right? Right?!) and yet we may have already found a qb that will mantain this high level of success that we are experiencing

I would turn on the direct lines with Oakland and Tampa, just in case.
