I Ask You.....Is P. Manning Done?

I don't think he's done, but he /should/ be done. He physically can't finish a season anymore without fatal breakdowns.

I can't argue with that.
But I hate putting super bowl hopes on the skills of Josh Kline vs Logan Mankins or anybody else for that matter..
Could you take Mankins and put him where the sun doesn't shine? It's gotten very, very, VERY old.

Something seems wrong with Peyton. I don't think he is 100% healthy and I suspect the Broncos are concealing an injury.
It's called old age. It catches everyone eventually.

If done is most TDs in the NFL and 4th most in yardage with a 102 rating, then yes he is done. It was the 5th time in his career he has thrown a 4 pick game.

Silly for Brady, silly for Manning. The NFL is still a Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers world. Until they start to look more like Eli Manning in the regular season, all are worth the paycheck.
He's had SIX multiple pick games this year.

Manning is showing signs of decline.
However, this is because he's been at such a lofty perch. He's still one of the best QBs in the NFL.

What we're seeing this year is...
1. A pronounced later season drop in arm strength with loss of the ability to drill into tight spaces
2. More effective enemy pressure on his OL. He is not accustomed to pressure and handles it worse than other elites including another pure pocket passer, TFB.
3. Possible minor, yet play affecting, undisclosed injury.

He still reads defenses and makes correct decisions as well as anyone.
He still throws the deep arcing pass far better than Brady. And yes he does have superior ball hawking, separation making wideouts than Brady has and by a large margin.
He still plays poorly in the outdoor elements and in postseason type games.

I'm waiting for the Gregg Easterbrook article to make it official, it could be a very long winter.

Time waits for no one.

For the 1st half of a season, with his arm somewhat fresh, Manning can still play great ball, but his arm can't handle a full season any more. It's pretty obvious there isn't much on those throws right now. I wouldn't be surprised if Manning calls it a day after the season is over.

it depends on how he starts next year.

He's looking very Favreish lately, where his body just doesn't seem to be able to hold up for a full season. He's clearly breaking down a bit, if you looks at his season the first half he was lights out, he had one hohum game against seattle.

But the 2nd half of his season, starting at NE and moving on from there hes had 5 average to really really bad games, and his best two games of the year(vs miami, vs oakland)

So either his body cant make it 16 games anymore, or maybe hes hurt.

in either case the denver brass should certainly be answering some questions along the lines of "do you think it makes sense to sit manning?" "should brock be getting some first team reps?"

Unlikely, but if he does then I think the Broncos should trade to get Jay Cutler back. o_O

I think the problem is people thought Peyton was something he wasn't the last couple of years. He's still capable of being lethal, and always was. When you surround him with elite weapons, his play is elite. If you change a couple variables on him, it exposes the flaws in his game. He doesn't throw a great ball anymore, and he doesn't handle pressure that well. Either DL pressure or mental pressure.

He can still beat anybody on a given Sunday though, and we shouldn't take him anything for granted if we play him in a few weeks.

No one could argue that he is not still a very productive and dangerous QB, he clearly is and his numbers reflect that. However the difference between Manning and the other top QBs is that his arm strength has clearly diminished significantly and teams realize it and are tapering their defensive strategies to exploit it. The Broncos had better pray for good weather because the one condition he absolutely cannot deal with is the wind, and if they get windy conditions they are done imo, unless they get the Colts, who they could run on all day.

He's not done until the end of the first playoff game.

Then its on to the next season.

What are you talking about, the Patriots have been done since September, it's only the ballwashing homers who don't realize it. The Kraft's are cheap Bastards who screwed them over and cost Brady any shot at another ring. Belichick needs to retire because the game has clearly passed him by.

I agree with that. Don't forget what other team was using 6 O lineman too.
Once again Brady can do more with less. Manning still doesn't have to deal with the pressure Brady does.
Which was my complaint. Why does Brady have to settle for less than Manning. When Brady goes out of his way to help the team with his contract.

They signed the top free agent on the market. It is nothing short of remarkable that you are still spewing the same garbage after have been embarrassed like he other posters on the history of this site. You gave up on this team long ago so spare us your idiotic blather

I think Denver has a tough decision this offseason. Do they take the $20 million cap hit and let one or more of their bigger name free agents walk (Both Thomases, Pot Roast, Nate Irving, Will Montgomery, etc.). If they are going to stick with this balanced offense, I don't think they need Manning especially since he needs to pass more and be in command to be more effective.

Manning looks like his body is beginning to finally feel the effects of all of those hits he's taken over the course of his career and is beginning to break down. I don't think he's fully done yet. He's still capable of some pretty good throws (albeit throws that have a lot of air under them), but I think the end is very near.

Brees, still?

You youngsters might not remember, but there was a day when the term "happy feet" was thrown around a lot to describe QBs who were nervous in the pocket. That term disappeared from the media when Peyton Manning arrived in the NFL.

Beside the weaker arm, it looks like Manning is also getting fooled more often by the defense. He looks more now like the guy who played the Pats in the 2004 playoffs and completed more passes to Ty Law than any of his teammates.

One problem that Manning has is that he won't sit down and take a break now and then during the season. There have been plenty of opportunities but he isn't willing.

I've got a bunch of people on ignore, but if ANYONE is still complaining about not having mankins, they need to go see a doctor.
