Why were we "created"?

Yes, at least the pastor I listen too says this. Not sure about all churches though.

if you don't mind me asking, what denomination is that?

I'm also curious what he means by this. On the surface, that seems rather vain of god, doesn't it? Creating something to glorify himself? I suppose the Greek and Roman gods had all sorts of human characteristics including flaws, but that's not supposed to be the case with the Christian God.

Sorry this took so long, I missed the "alert" earlier today. I listen to Dr. Tony Evans everyday that I can. I've known he is a pastor in Dallas Texas. But he's a non denominational Protestant pastor from what I just looked up. He's on the radio pretty much all over the country every single day. He's a brilliant man. No joke. You wouldn't agree with him, but I like listening to him.

From 18:00-29:12. (I know you may not have time for it) There is a whole bunch of theology there on his creation of angels and mankind. Basically because of Lucifer's rebellion, God was going to use that rebellion and create mankind to glorify himself.

We were created so that God could be glorified.

That's what many Muslims say, too. It's an interesting idea, but doesn't it suggest that God is a narcissist?I mean that with utmost respect, because maybe I'm misunderstanding the point.

I believe you Patters. God says he is a jealous God and told the Hebrews do not put any other gods before me. My vocabulary understanding is limited so I can't comment on narcissistic and I don't know if that is the right word for the creator of the universe. I think we will all glorify and acknowledge him at some point. In either heaven or hell. The Bible says suggests there are people in hell that want to go back and tell the living about God.

Pretty basic question, and despite my Catholic upbringing I have no idea what that church teaches. curious whether the major religions actually address this or just assume it as a given, or a mystery, and go from there.

RI? VA? any perspectives from your religions, since you're 2 of the folks here who seem pretty well-versed on their respective teachings?

(VA, this came from a Wiesel book, though I haven't read Trial of God yet: "For what purpose did God create man? I understand that man needs God. But what need of man has God?")

Chico

I honestly believe you were created to defend the Muslim's.
Everyone has a job to do, that is yours.

is your job to attack them?

Why wouldn't you defend law-abiding citizens? Why should their religion matter?

It just may be my job to call out that barbaric religion.
Aside form the terrorist connections, do you like the way they treat women?
What about Sharia Law? Are you onboard with Sharia Law?

We don't have sharia law here. My concern is primarily with Muslims in the United States. And I don't view Muslims in the US as different from people of other faiths.

You, on the other hand, apparently consider them second class citizens.

Personally, I don't care much for any religion. But unlike you, apparently, I don't pretend that some religions are great while demonizing others.

If you'd like to talk more about Islam, perhaps you should start a thread about it.

Meanwhile, if you know anything about what this thread is about, maybe you can share your wisdom.

Many Muslim Americans counter that Shariah is essential to belief, and that any harsh punishments or unconstitutional aspects associated with Islamic law have either been exaggerated, abrogated or are superseded by American law.

I have a problem with anyone who supports Shariah Law.

you're really out on a limb there. what a bold stance. It's a good thing we don't have sharia law here, huh?

I don't want laws based on any religion's rules, be it Islam, Christianity, whatever. some of your GOP friends disagree with that, but they don't really matter, fortunately.

If you think you are hurting me by attacking , Christianity. your mistaken.
I don't have a religious bone in my body.

It is obvious that Islam is your religion of choice.
You don't even have a problem with Shariah law.

I wasn't attacking Christianity or you.

You obviously can't read very well.

I sure know you were not attacking the Muslim's or Shariah Law .....

You really do have reading comprehension issues, huh?

And no, I wasn't attacking Muslims, either. Unlike you, I'm not a bigot.

I admit it, I am a muslim bigot..... I hate them !

A guy I work with, daughter married a guy from Pakastan.
She converted to Islam and they are thinking of taking their daughter (less then a year old) and
moving to Pakastan.

I expect to get ripped, for this reply..... (I could care less, I am being honest).
If that was my daughter, her husband would disapear.
That would be the last thing I would ever want for my daughter and grandchild.

I wouldn't either, but that's her call, not yours or mine or her father's.

If you hate law abiding Muslim citizens of our nation, simply because of their faith, you're a sorry excuse for a "man." I'm pretty sure your hypothetical son in law would have nothing to worry about.

That baby girl is American and should not be punnished by being forced to grow up in the barbaric land of Sharaiah Law.

I would never harm a law abiding Muslim citizen.
I don't respect their religion, but I would never harm them unless they were a threat to my family.
Trust me when I tell you, I don't talk about things I would not do.

I am sure you would allow your granddaughter to be taken to Pakastan so she could be stoned to
death if she ever commited adultery.

There's nothing illegal about moving to another country, even one under sharia.

But no, I don't trust you. I think you're a big "talker" who wouldn't do a thing away from the safety of his keyboard.
